Ate here on our second night. Had the tuna it was ok nothing amazing. Nice setting on the beach. Would have thought the tuna would have been better re to it's name. Nice staff very friendly. Like a previous review it does seem to be the meeting point for party people.

We were blown away by our stay at Lucky Tuna.
The rooms were stunning and unique with large balconies and beautiful views.
The hotel is also smack bang on the beach right in the middle of the action - but it's not disruptively noisy or anything.
We chilled out on the beach all day and ordered food and cocktails from the Lucky Tuna bar... not a bad way to spend a holiday! The spring rolls were particularly delicious.
At night we'd have drinks on our balcony and look out at the stunning view...
We travelled throughout Sri Lanka for 3 weeks and both agree this was one of the most fabulous places we stayed. Would highly, highly recommend.
Even if it's a bit more expensive than surrounding hotels it's definitely worth it.

We had dinner twice at the Lucky Tuna. and it was delicious. On our very first evening in Unawatuna we arrived nearly by chance there. The view of the seafood platters waiting to be grilled gave us a wink! We had a seaplatter with 2 Tiger prawns and a red mullet, both served with french fries and salad. Wow! Fingers liking... Actually, that's the best way to eat it all... All washed by a cold Calsbergs.
We had a butter fish and more prawns the second time. Perfect too.
The only negative item is that the place is very noisy. It seems to be the meeting place for all the party-men/women of the beach. Avoid it on friday and saturday night. The spot get tranformed on a dance club!

We had an amazing week at the Lucky Tuna- the staff were great- in a laid back Sri Lankan stylee and we sort of became part of the furniture. The rooms were unique, carefully kept and cleaned brilliantly every two days. The food is good but not the cheapest on the bay but you really have to chat with the owner as he is cooking the fries and swig back Arak with him whilst you select from the massive array of fresh from the ocean dinner to get the full flavour of the Lucky Tuna! We were told beforehand that it is a party place and that the music would be loud and go on late and they were right- we didn't quite expect that NYE would be quite as it was, doubly amplified and carry on until 7.30am but why travel if you dont want an experience!!! ( It did get to head between pillows and make it stop point though at about 5.30 am!)

Room Tip: The 4 rooms are all up a quite steep and narrow winding staircase so children might find it a bit of...

Each of the 4 rooms are unique and are very tastefully arranged. A fantasic view from the balcony that is unlikely to be beaten along that stretch of the coast. Staff are friendly and food is of a decent standard. It can get noisy during the evening but if you are on the beach front then that is expected.

Pricing is slightly higher than surrounding hotels, however this is of a higher standard. Off-season (pre-November) I paid Rs.7000 for a room per night.

Room Tip: top floor has best view. however 1st floor has nicer bathrooms.

The title says it all really, the double room we hired was nice, well decorated and comfortable. However because it was above the bar and restaurant it was a bit noisy if you didn't want to be part of the party.

In the daytime it was perfect, we had breakfast included, sunloungers outside the bar, they served cocktails (not great, but passable), we had a lovely balcony looking out to sea and it was hot. The guys in the bar weren't terribly helpful but the diving schools down the beach were and organised our trips.

It was slightly overpriced I think but we had just tried to stay at a place called The Villa which was awful and would've paid anything just to stay somewhere nice, therefore we didn't haggle.

Finally, the food here was pretty good, I would definitely reecommend it. If you like the party and will be up til 1 or 2am anyway then this is the place for you.

Room Tip: If you're going to search for Whales, it might take all day. We got up at 6am and didn't get...
