“All your senses will be tantalised”
Reviewed August 9, 2013 via mobile

We had a fantastic day cooking with Karuna. Our trip to the markets was an adventure in itself full of colour and daily life - watching the fishmonger cut up the fish was something else. Back at Karuna's kitchen she soon had us all involved splitting coconuts, making coconut cream, peeling veggies, chopping garlic (Karuna is on amazing person with a knife) and stirring curries. In between she shared stories and cooking tips and kept us entertained with her wonderful laugh. And of course eating the feast we had help prepare was a great way to cap off the afternoon. Take notes and plenty of photos to capture the recipes to try at home.

“We had a blast”

Cooking with koruna is fun, we were amazed how easy it is! To go to the market in galle with a local was also a very interesting experience! Buy the spices wich she tells you to, you need all of them to create a gorgeous curry! You cook outside, but i still was very surprised by another guest who showed up - a snake! Enjoy your meal!

“Refreshing, and not only because of the rain!”
Reviewed July 11, 2013

Karuna will first take you to the market to purchase the ingredients for the meals. Roaming in the local vegetable and fish market is very interesting, as you'll see things you have probably never seen before -for example fish that weigh as much as a lamb. Cooking was also nice, bring a camera so you can document the process step by step and also take notes if you want to recreate the meals when home - there are no recipe books available. If you want to actively participate in the cooking just say so, we did and we did most of the chopping, cutting and grating. We made 5 different dishes, needless to say all them spicy -not for Karuna, who said this was baby spicy :-) -they prepare dishes that mild only for young sri lankan kids, she said, so if you can't take spicy at all this class may not be your cup of tea. The cooking class is taking place at an open kitchen, located on the second floor of Karuna's house, it does have a roof only. We got a rainy day, being up there surrounded by the waving coconut trees, the greenery and the see, seeing everyday life going on on the street below and filling your lungs with the fresh air the rain left behind was just so calming and refreshing.
We enjoyed it. Lovely lady, delicious food and overall a great experience!

“Can't wait to try the recipes at home!”
Reviewed June 2, 2013 via mobile

This was a fun way to spend a few hours (especially on a rainy day) and the lunch at the end was amazing!!! Karuna is delightful and her instructions are very clear. I will definitely be making the curries when I get back to Australia!
