“A fantastic guesthouse”
Reviewed September 3, 2013 via mobile

I don't know where to start in writing this review other than by thanking them again for an amazing holiday. I have just returned home from spending 7 nights in the guesthouse and I am already dreaming of a time when we will be able to return again.

The star of the show is Vimal and he is Blue Skys greatest asset, from the moment we arrived to the time we hopped into the car at midnight to return to the airport nothing was too much trouble. He is such a kind soul and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed spending time with him, he is friendly and welcoming when you arrive and after leaving he has etched a firm place in our hearts. We looked forward to seeing him at breakfast every morning to chat about our plans for the day and he offered so much advice for things to do etc, he also makes a mean cup of Sri Lankan coffee and tasty omelette.

We were lucky enough to be allocated the room on the top floor facing the beach, the room itself is spacious and perfectly appointed. The bed was comfortable and large by Sri Lankan standards, we were also pleased there was a fridge, which is perfect for keeping your duty free wine chilled to enjoy after a long day on the beach. The bathroom was also a great size and powerful shower which we were delighted with.

The balconies have incredible views over the sea and we enjoyed whiling away many hours relaxing listening to the sea and watching the waves. The beach by the guesthouse is wonderful and not too crowded, the nearby rock pool is great for families however we chose to go to the main beach in Unawatuna (200 rupee ride) as we prefer to swim in deeper water.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Blue Sky to anyone visiting Unawatuna

We LOVED this place! The location was amazing (just outside Unawatuna which we felt was for the better as Unawatuna can be a little "commercial" for our tastes. It has a "private beach just out front and was still close enough to mail Unawatuna to walk for a bit of entertainment.

It is managed by a husband and Wife who were just the nicest people! They were so friendly and ready to help and we enjoyed their company in the evenings. (True Sri Lankan style hospitality - they are your friend from the minute you meet)

The Curry really was the best i had during our whole month long stay in Sri Lanka - we ended up having their curry for Breakfast Lunch and Super - Literally!

I would highly recommend staying here as apposed to anywhere actually in Unawatuna (a 5 min walk away)

Room Tip: There is a great cocktail bar, 1 minutes walk down the beach. The Arak Attack is the best on the Isl...

Nice place to stay , the owner and the staff are good and helpful and would accomodate most of your requirement, the breakfast is served as your own time. The room with the sea view is good. The owner suggested few places to go around the place and they were good ,if you staying here definetly ask the owner to arrange a trip to the jungle beach, its awesome place. Definetly a place suggested to stay if you looking for value for money.

Room Tip: Sea side view is good and comes at the same price as others

we stayed there on the last night of our holiday. despite being ' off season' all our other fav spots e.g sun and sea. thrapoban were either fully booked or over priced. we got the sea view prime room for 50 usd which was a steal -given the wonderful location and friendly staff. the room was very modern and comfortable. it is a smart hotel which is well maintained. we ate out for the experience so I cannot comment on the food. as stated by others there is good swimming
2 mins away in front of wijaya restaurant (great food ) but watch the rip tides---

My wife and I enjoyed our couple-day stay at the Blue Sky Beach Resort. It's simple, safe, quiet and clean - all that you can ask for in a beach-side hotel.

It's within a couple minute walking distance to a nice stretch of beach (not too isolated but not crowded). Seating patio is nice and the food is outstanding (the daal was some of the best we had in our 1+ week in Sri Lanka). Service is friendly and most of the staff speak English very well.

The only down side to the place, in my opinion, is the fact that you need to walk on the road vs. the beach at night (i.e. after dinner) since the high tide and lack of lighting "closes off" the narrow stretch of beach between the "main" beach in the area and the Blue Sky Beach Resort. However, this is a minor inconvenience and not something that should scare anyone off.

We really enjoyed coming here. The two people who run it were just lovely and looked after us - nothing was a problem. Food was good and atmosphere very relaxed. I'm already missing having my breakfast looking out to the sea :(

Our room was nice (corner facing the sea), spacious, had a fridge, clean, aircon and no mosquito issue. Good value for money overall.

It was also a good location for us - not far from the busier Unawantuna beach area and about 15mins in a tuk tuk from Galle - although for 20 LKR just jump on one of the extremely regular buses which stop right outside the B&B.

If you're coming by train just jump off at the Talpe stop as it is only 5- 10mins away in a tuk tuk.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the room closest to the sea view - esp on top floor

We stayed in several hotels in Sri Lanka and this was our last hotel before going home. I orginally choose this place as it was slighlt more expensive than the others therefore we expected to get more for our money which we DEFINITELY did! The room was massive with a big bed it was really clean and the bathroom spotless. The view was beautiful and right on the beach with a short walk around the corner to a lagoon type beach.

But the best thing about the hotel was the Sri Lankan Curry we had, had lots of currys while staying in Sri Lanka but the home made Curry at the Blue Sky Beach was the best Curry in sri lanka.

The owners were really lovely as well and helpful. This hotel is a must when in sri lanka
