“Now I know what a "feel like home"”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

This is the best place in Sri Lanka. We stayed with my boyfriend in this guesthouse for 5 days. And it was the best of of all places where we stayed. Paul and Lori were welcoming and did everything to make us feel like at home.At this hotel feels very calm and relaxed! The real rest! Laurie told us many interesting things. Interior photos not very correspond to reality. There's much more cozy and more beautiful! The rooms are cleaned every day. Everywhere is clean. I highly recommend this place.

The Palm Grove is somewhere that i'd be happy to keep returning to time and time again and was my favourite guest house during my Sri Lankan adventure. Unawatuna is a lively and bustling resort and the Palm Grove is a tropical oasis of calm nestled in a small back street so noise is never a problem. But within a few minutes you can be walking on the beach or sat outside one of the many bars and restaurants. Lorraine and Paul are both wonderful hosts, friendly, kind and attentive to your needs. Lorraine arranged transport on to my next port of call and suggested some lovely things to do in the local area including a wonderful massage and their restaurant suggestions were spot on. The room was large, very clean and bright with a/c, fan, mosquito nets and plenty of fresh, clean towels. An issue with the plug in the hand basin was resolved immediately. The Palm Grove has some lovely shared areas including a roof terrace with a hammock where you can take breakfast and enjoy watching the monkeys in the trees. A nice touch is the honesty bar where you can help yourself to cold beers and soft drinks which is lovely after being out and about in the heat of the day. I really can't recommend the Palm Grove highly enough and i'll certainly be going there again on my next visit. Thank you once again Lorraine and Paul for your humour and kindness.

We stayed for 3 nights in January 2013, and it was one of our favourite stops along the way. Paul and Lorraine (along with all other staff) were very friendly and knowledgeable about the area, and went out of our way to ensure we enjoyed our stay.

The size of the rooms makes them great value, and the faciities are top notch (aside from the occasional lack of hot water). Tucked away in a nice little laneway, it is a great way to be in the middle of the action, without having to deal with constant noise.

Very highly recommended!

Dear Lorraine & Paul,
Thank you very much for your welcome. We did have 4 beautiful days with you. I would say it was our 4 best days during our 3 weeks tour. Our little daughter enjoyed as well your relaxing garden, the breakfast with monkeys, and your kind attention. It will be a pleasure to see you again if we plan to come back in Sri Lanka.

We stayed for 2,5 weeks and congratulated ourselves having chosen this place. Lauraine & Paul, more hostparents than owners, are the heart of this guesthouse: being always attentive to their guest`s needs, enjoying the company of their guests same as giving helpful hints about restaurants, trips and shops.
Palm Grove is a comfy place, a clean and tranquil oasis after a day at the crowded beach or strenuous traveling. It is a perfect base to explore surrounding beaches, go for trips to the nearby snake or turtle farm, also for daytrips like whale watching or to the Yala National Park.
Even at rainy hours, you can chill out in a hammock or chat away with other travelers, sipping at a beer or coke from the provided fridge and watch the monkeys climbing the nearby palms.
Distance to the beach is 5-10 min, if you like you could dine every day at a different restaurant along the beach - we liked most Jina`s veggie cuisine, the more upscale restaurant at Flower Garden as well as the small but awesome friendly Roti-Shop on the way from Palm Grove to the beach.
Palm Grove is situated a bit away from the beach road in a small lane, not known to every tuk-tuk driver. So if you arrive at late hours, it is helpful to contact Paul or Lauraine ahead or even arrange a pickup.
We left full of fond memories & maybe will return one day - thanks a lot, Lauraine & Paul!

When we arrived in Unawatuna we couldn't find Palm Grove. A quick call to Paul solved our problem and when we finally arrived, Lorraine was already on the go with an umbrella to save us from the rain that had just started. Our whole stay (4 nights) continued like this: whenever we needed something, Lorraine was more than happy to help us.
The rooms are spacious and comfy. We really enjoyed the common areas where we hung out and waited for the rain to stop while we got to know other guests.
One of the highlights was spending New Year's with Paul, Lorraine and the other guests at the beach.
Palm Grove is the family you do not have when you travel. Thank you for an awesome stay!
