“Nice camp”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2014

A good place to stay and to visit the NP. With the car it is not far to go to the NP. The view of the Nile from the Campsite is beautiful. The dinner and breakfast was excellent and also the service. To sleep in a tent was a good experience! Can just recommend that place!

Overall a good option to stay in Murchison. Staff is friendly, food is good (although breakfast can be improved) and rooms are large and clean. We tried both the tents and the rooms. The lodge is located in outside the North gate of the park and it takes 1 hour to drive to the River Nile within the park. The location is good for safari (the animals are North of the Nile) but makes that more difficult to get-in / out (e.g. if you plan to go to Fort Portal the day after you are adding at least 2/3 hours of driving to a very long journey.

Rooms are very good, large, clean with hot water. Tents are OK, they have clean beds with good mosquito nets but they lack space and light (only one spotlight + one electricity plug). The shared bathroom facility is ok although having more than 2 showers may be better. The better thing of tents vs. rooms (apart of the price) is that tents are more colder over night (a nice breeze allow you a better sleep) while the rooms are boiling hot.

I will give them 5 stars when they build a swimming pool.

A lovely location and setting. Based on the banks of the Nile, we had tented accommodation. This means you have no toilet or washing facilities in the tent. The welcome from the team was great after a long drive from Kampala. The tent was clean and surprisingly roomy, but still a tent so do not expect anything other then a bed and a towel. The shower was cold but not too bad, as we were so hot each evening and morning. Plus the showers and toilets are a 30 second walk from all tents. The food and service were great, and the beer was cold.
But for here, it is all about the location, right next to the park for game drives and a spectacular view of the Nile whilst sitting outside your tent. Well worth considering as a base for game drives around murchison falls national park, boat trips on the Nile and to visit the murchison falls (do the trek to the top if you're fit enough and take a water proof camera for the trek).
This place has tented and lodge accommodation (these had own toilet and shower) so ensure you know what you've booked before you arrive.

This lodge is approximately 5km from the Murchison Falls National Park entrance, which with the bumpy roads is about a 20 minute drive. However, it is well worth it for the service and spectacular setting. On arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome, refreshing cold towel and thirst quenching fruit juice. After check-in we were shown to our safari tent, which was of a good size and well equipped with bedside lamp and mosquito nets over the beds. The only things we could find fault with the tent was the lack of a bin and single beds, which doesn't suit ever travelling couple. Either relaxing outside your tent or on the roof-top terrace with an ice-cold beer, watching the sunset over the Nile, with the sound of hippos in the background, was an amazing experience. The evening menu consisted of a set 4-courses, all of which were served to 5* standard. The shower and toilet facilities were basic, with limited warm water, but still refreshing after a long, hot game drive. The breakfast menu was cereal, fruit and your choice of eggs, so you never started your day on an empty stomach. All-in-all a great base, with attentive service.

Fort Murchison has a very beautiful view and a relaxed environment, the food is SUPERB!! and the staff are so helpful!!
The location is very strategic, because it is located just outside the park boundaries, so even when you are not visiting the park but on your way to Arua or Gulu it is the perfect stop-over

This place is a really nice spot just outside park. It has a very good food and they have both rooms and safari tents. I stayed there just before Christmas and we like being on this side of the park as you don't have to deal with the ferry. It is a bit of a drive if you do want to go to actual "falls" but the place has a view of the river and we saw elephants on the driveway to the lodge ( more than we saw in the park) as it turned out. There is not too much to do at the lodge except relax and enjoy the view of the river. The local folks were having a party somewhere off in the darkness and the singing was quite magical as we fell asleep. We saw some shooting stars as there is not too much light pollution at night. Do bring a torch/flash light.

I have been here twice by now and both times the food was absolutely amazing and the portions were big. The scenery is lovely, tents and cottages are all overlooking the Nile. Camping spots are lovely as well. Sanitary block needs some improvement, locks on the showers get stuck (i was stuck for about 20min) and toilets need more cleaning done. The buildings are all particularly new so it just needs better maintenance. The dining area is lovely and the food is really good but the service is just terrible. Staff is pretty insecure and not trained well enough to help you out with easy orders. We didn't really mind, in the end this is Africa, but when you are coming with big groups and taking the order takes longer than half an hour and goes wrong about 5 times.. it can become a bit annoying.

Good evening Melissa

Thank you for your review on tripadvisor. We always appreciate some feedback on your stay.
We are truly sorry for the incident with the toilet door and will ask our technical maintenance department to go around and check all locks. I was particularly concerned with your disappointment of our service and investigated the matter. During your stay a new staff member started working in the camp and was too soon left on his own. We pride ourselves on excellent food but also on attentive and good service and will certainly rectify your issue

Warm regards

Ruben Vandenhoeke
