We took a boat trip along the nile to the foot or Murchison and it didn't disappoint. We saw loads of hippos, crocodiles, birds and grazing animals along the river bank and the driver of the boat slowed down so that photos could be taken. A very popular trip, the boat was a little 'bush' but well equipped with drinks and a good crew. When we stopped to turn around we had the opportunity to get out and stand on a large rock and the skipper of the boat took our photo with the falls behind which was brilliant and one ot the best photos of our trip - it has been hugely circulated!. The trip back was as memorable and we had a brilliant time. If in the area it is a 'must see'. We also crossed over the nile on the river ferry and took a trip to the top of the falls, this was quite a bumpy drive but well worth it as the noise and drama at the top of the falls are incredible, take waterproofs and good walking shoes as a little slippy and the spray quite strong.

The falls do not disappoint!! We took the parks morning boat ride that leaves at 7am- got to watch the sunrise over the Nile- saw countless crocodiles and hippos, as well as some amazing birds, and some other animals grazing along the shore. Where the boat turns around you have the option to get off and hike to the top of the falls- DO THIS HIKE! The view from the boat is good but this hike gets you even closer, shows you the second falls, and lets you look down on the falls from the top- giving you the full experience. If you take the morning boat ride the hike isnt too hot and you're in the shade the whole time- its not a difficult hike. When you buy your ticket for the boat let them know you want to do the hike and a guide will be waiting for you.

Excellent must visit place, having done a few safaris, I must say the falls and the boat cruise there, is a must... I hope Uganda will take care of this place. The ferry across the Nile.
And not least here the animals, the big ones, come to bath in the river, Crocs watching...

Visited here in August last year, on a two-day break from missionary work in the South of the country. Have always wanted to go on a safari, and this wonderful National Park gave me an experience to remember. Can't fault the river safari at all - the boat slowed down for photographs each time something of note appeared : crocodiles, elephants, hippos, we saw the lot. Even half an hour of torrential African rain didn't spoil it! The falls themselves were spectacular too!

On our second day in the park, we took part in a game drive. Our tour guide knew his stuff, and was happy to explain anything & everything we wanted to know. We saw giraffes, elephants, buffalo, baboons (i think), antelope, countless beautiful birds, and even a lion! Amazing!

The drive from the main gate to the waterfront was a long one, but it was worth the wait! If you ever find yourselves in the beautiful nation of Uganda, go!

This is a very nice national park where you can do (a) self-drive safari, (b) boat cruise on the River Nile and (c) trekking on top of the Falls.

Re safari, compared to the usual and more developed national parks (e.g. in South Africa or Namibia):
- this is much more rough ... the facilities at the gates are minimal (no maps, no toilettes, unhelpful staff) and in the park you can do whatever you want at your peril (e.g. get of the car)
- large number of animals although probably the variety of species is lower (e.g. lions, giraffes, elephants, buffalo, various antelopes but no zebras, oysters, springboks or rhinos)
- have not seen any restaurants or anything selling stuff ... make sure you have everything with you before you enter or your lodge can provide what you need

The boat cruse on the Nile is nice and once there you need to do it. You can combine the cruise with trekking (i.e. close to the falls you will be off-boarded for a trekking at the top of the falls which is absolutely worth it).

The overall price tag is a bit high for the overall value: $35 entrance fee for each person (for 24h) + $30+ for boat trip / trekking + $20 for a ranger in your car means you will easily spend $100 per person in one day

If your accommodation is located North of the river Nile plan carefully your journey as there is no bridge on the Nile in the park but only a ferry which does a hourly service between 6am and at 7pm (i.e. if you are late you would not able to cross and will need to sleep in the car)
