“Great expat scene & food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 16, 2012

Good place to eat & a familiar place for foreigners to hang out. The food ranges from sandwiches, burgers, wraps & soups, as well as smoothies & coffees. They're all of a good prices but most of all - there is FREE wi-fi!

“Best thing about Gulu!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 25, 2012

I've had to travel to Gulu so far three times in the past 5 months and to me the Coffee Hut is the only bright spot to me. Free internet, and its decent speed. Great lattes. Their french fries are the best I've had in Uganda (they actually taste like fries, not like cooking oil...). I really like their guacamole. They have a separate breakfast menu -- I recommend the "Express Wrap" - bacon (actual crispy bacon), scrambled eggs, and guacamole wrapped in a Mexican style tortilla. I stay away from meat for the most part in rural areas, but the hamburgers look and smell good. They used to have muffins (which might be the the same ones you can purchase next door at the bakery - because they look the same) that are filled and topped with cake frosting (so more like a cupcake really) - but I wasn't impressed by those, too dry. Haven't tried a shake yet, they are sometimes out of ice cream. They are sometimes out of chicken too, so don't be surprised if your menu options are limited. There aren't many tables, but there is an annex with more tables next door.

Highly recommended. And the prices aren't unreasonably high considering the high quality of the food and the fact that some of the items found on the menu aren't found in other restaurants that I've seen in Gulu - $10 USD was enough for breakfast and lunch (plus unlimited free internet) = one vanilla latte, one breakfast burrito, one sandwich and french fries, one coke (and a tip for the waiter).

“American food in Gulu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2012

American styled restaurant in the middle of Gulu. Nice A/C and they also had wi-fi. The food was pretty good. They did not have ice cream or shakes the time we visited which was very disappointing. Overall it was pretty good. Thanks and God bless.

“nice place to set up camp”

The wireless internet and array of food choices make this cafe one of the best in Gulu. The service leaves a little to be desired, but the wait staff is friendly nonetheless. Enjoyed my repeated trips here!

“Expat hang out with American-style food & free wifi”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

The Coffee Hut is an obvious expat hang out in Gulu. It fulfills this role well if this is what you are searching for.

Pros: The restaurant has several sandwich and wrap options for vegetarians as well as real coffee and free internet. The staff were very friendly and the food was solid.

Cons: Power had been off in Gulu and the restaurant was very hot as a result of the lack of AC [which they did appear to have] or fan. Also, because the door was open to try to cool the place down a troupe of flies had invaded. Can't blame the restaurant. I assume those things are better when there is municipal electricity.

Note: Google maps is wrong about the Coffee Hut's location. It is centrally located between Bank Ln & Market St on the north-south running street just a bit west of Hotel Kakanyero.
