Description: The Rock Restaurant, in Michamvi Pingwe on Zanzibar Island, is an extraordinary restaurant, located in a unique position, on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The contrast of the unspoiled natural setting, down played decor and design vs the international standard food preparation and presentation is as novel and rewarding as its location. Serving up to 14 tables, all facing a wonderful terrace on the Ocean, the restaurant is connected to the mainland by boat, within high tide, and reachable by foot within low tide. It is also easy reachable by sea if coming by boat from an excursion. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or for a memorable evening with friends or family, it is open for lunch and dinner and is available to be reserved for small groups and ceremonies. The Rock kitchen offers a superlative fresh seafood menu, including vegetarian plates and a kid's menu the service is informal but accurate and elegant.

Beautiful location and food is over priced because of that, the lobster was okay but dry, it needed a butter dredge of some sort; serve is so so.
We expected more for the price.

Situated on a rock surrounded by water during high tide a small local boat will ferry you across. During low tide you can walk across the reef. The restaurant is well set up and of high quality. This is reflected in the prices on the menu but is well worth forking out for! The were friendly enough but really it was the other guests there that stood out as the place attracts a wide variety of international guests who are all elated to be there! Fish carpaccio was great, their take on fish fingers was okay, chicken skewers were good. Only thing left for this place is to play some music please.

I only gave two points because of the view, it is truly beautiful. The food is bad and over priced and you can't pay by credit card! Bring cash if you plan to eat here. The staff is ok, but if you don't order something they will either ignore you or act arrogant. Overall, a bad experience, but the view is worth taking the quick boat ride to the rock.

The Rock is one of those places you will remember for a lifetime! If you are in Zanzibar, it is a must try. It is one the southeastern beaches so about one hour from the airport so if you are staying closer to the city centre you can make a day trip of it. once off the main road and through the village, the rock outcrop sits right there infront of you. The views from inside and outside are amazing! You are in the sea eating delicious grilled seafood right out of the water. The access is on foot or boat depending on whether the tides are in our out. Unique, magnificent and memorable!

The taxi driver from the airport and several other people recommended this wonderfully bohemian hangout bar and restaurant. You cannot beat this experience: go at high tide just so you can take the boat out there! The food is superb and the cocktails are fantastic... just make sure you can get back in the boat! *****stars!
