“Retains old world charm and offers delicious meals all at reasonable cost”
Reviewed April 23, 2014

The hotel was established in 1886 but has retained its old world charm and atmosphere. The service was of the best we have ever encountered and the meals during our week’s stay were absolutely superb. An ideal overnight stay for visiting the battlefields in the area.

Clean rooms, comfortable public areas and staff who are all friendly and most helpful make for a very enjouable stay in Dundee which is a little town which not much to recomend itself except that it is a good base for visits to the battlefields. All meals served were well prepared and vey tasty. Highly recomended

A very homely and comfortable hotel with pleasant helpful staff, clean quite smart rooms and very good food. If you're visiting the Boer and Zulu War sites it's a very convenient base, sitting, as it does at the base of Talana Hill, the first battle of the 2nd Boer War.
Dundee is a modest little town but the hotel has a decent bar and both evening meals and breakfast were excellent with good choices. Both food and drink prices struck me as ridiculously cheap by normal hotel standards.
This is a modest hotel by international standards but what it lacks in sophistication is more then made up for by simply being such a enjoyable place to stay.

Staff were pleasant and helpfull rooms were clean and the hotel had a good atmosphere in a colonial style There were also plenty of communal areas outside an in. Breakfast was also decent and the evening meals looked good (we used the brai both nights). Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Only visited the restaurant for lunch. These people went out of their way to provide us with a lovely lunch and friendly service. Such a pleasant old feel to the place. Appreciated the friendliness :) and the food was really good and fresh.

Lovely colonial style hotel, that has not found itself stuck in the past, but it has a wonderful feeling, with friendly and accommodating staff. Great location ideal to base yourself for the battlefields. Good mix of interesting locals and visiting travellers. Nice breakfast, and a good bar with a friendly bar man. Secure parking.

We just had our family reunion here. It was fabulous. Places like this are a rare find. It takes you right back to days gone by, with wooden floors & pressed ceiling & all the rooms facing an inner courtyard. It was spotlessly clean. The rooms are as they should be. Period, confortable and clean. The staff were friendly and very helpful. I will be back :)

Room Tip: I liked the rooms on the courtyard
