“Nice hotel”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

Nice hotel and great location near Grand Baie. Also, a walking distance from few shops and restaurants (although you might not need to eat out when you are in all inclusive hotel). Our room was a sea view on the ground floor which was very convenient for us with our 1 year old boy. We were happy to find out that you can borrow strollers from the hotel during your stay so next time we go there we will not have to fly with our bulky pram.
However few things I did not like at this hotel especially if I compare it to club med El Gouna which is a slower grade than La Pointe aux Canonniers.
1. Breakfast buffet was exactly the same every day and we got bored by eating the same thing for the entire week.
2. Lunch/ dinner were great for people who love meat or non-vegetarians. They served fish but it was always the same type so if you don't like it bad luck for you. They also lacked a variety of salads and veggies. In general the food in El Gouna was much much better.
3. My husband got disappointment multiple times when he wanted to sail. It was either there is a race, or there were no boats available although there were few on shore but they told us they need maintenance. He would have loved to sail as much as he did in El Gouna.
4. Lastly, for parents with kids I'm sure they would love to have a lock on the room doors that is a bit higher than where it's placed now. Our 1 year old was able to unlock and open the door and walk out very quick. It did not leave us to stay in our room with a peace of mind. He was constantly opening the door and going out.
Generally, we liked the hotel and we still consider it as very good and great value of money. We like the club med and would definitely go back when our son is a bit older and can enjoy the mini club much more.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are worth the money.

When you are as stressed out as I was, Club Med is no doubt the antidote to civilization! You don't unwind here, you unravel !! Top of the list has to be the atmosphere, relaxed, laid back and uninvolved, and they don't have any airs and graces like some other hotels have in the same classification. No silly rules and regulations, no closed shoes for dinner, no long pants for gentlemen at supper. Club Med take the attitude, and rightly so, that it is your holiday and they are merely there to make your stay as pleasant as possible, with no hassles or restrictions, what a difference! The beach has to be one of the best on the island, and even if it is a bit windy elsewhere, most of the area tends to be sheltered from the prevailing winds, and the sunsets are spectacular! The Fully Inclusive is excellent, something for everyone, the rooms are smallish, but kept spotlessly clean. The staff are cheerful and nothing is too much trouble for them, a "problem" immediately becomes "no problem!" and there were not many of them! My wife and I have stayed there before, and I assure you, we will stay there again as soon as possible! Club Med is great value for money, and is a highly professional organization and for peace and quiet, is absolutely unbeatable! Thanks Club Med Pointe Aux Cannoniers, see you again soon!

Room Tip: Try for a ground floor room on the south side of the hotel near the jetty, they are just so convenie...

A magnificent resort....the Mini-Club was absolutely commendable and my daughter absolutely enjoyed each day she spent with the team there. I must also compliment the Spa for the marvelous treatments we got. The entertainment was really great plus there was a lot to do on a daily basis - including the daily health classes we participated in. The house-keeping and cleaning personnel did an excellent job and thanks for the lovely towel settings done (in moulds of animals - great skills indeed). By the time we left....we had already decided that next year we will definately be returning for more!

Room Tip: Sea-View rooms are the real deal....

We were 2 couples visiting this hotel end Aug 13 till first week of Sep 13 and it was a great experience. We were first placed in the garden view rooms, which we didn't like that much (no balcony and not as close to the sea as the other accommodation options available). We requested, if available, for the rooms overlooking the garden and sea and thanks to the friendly reception staff, Tegan in particular, we were moved without paying extra. Make sure you ask for the rooms in front of the resort, next to the garden and beach. These rooms are more spacious and the balcony is what makes the difference.

There were exceptions, but overall the staff weren't as friendly as expected. Well done to Tegan at reception and Yohan at the bar - friendly and very helpful.

The bar was a dissappointment as only local alcohol is in the all inclusive package and only one choice of beer, the local Phoenix beer, which tastes horrible.

The Discovery centre, where you can book day trips, are much more expensive. You can book in Grand Baie, at anyone of the many travel agencies (the hotel will tell you that the reason for their trips being more expensive is because inly the best operators, boats and food are given, which is not true - they're all basicaly the same).

When it comes to the entertainment, the hotel caters mainly for French speaking guest and hardly anything happens in English. You sort of feel left out. This will be one of the biggest reasons why I'd rather go to one of the other hotels next time. The shows are mainly in French with Frenchthemes and even during the day, the GO's only speak French.

One thing that stands out at this resort is the food, especially dinner - big variety of dishes and everything is delicious. A big kudos for the chefs - well done.

The people selling all sorts of things on the beach is annoying and doesn't fit with an island holiday in Mauritius. You can expect this in Mozambique or Zanzibar, but not here...

The facilities in general are of high standard and the resort is extremely clean.

The shop is very expensive, for what you get... A t-shirt for R500 - doesn't make sense.

The vibe wasn't spectacular, but because the 4 of us were in high spirits, we enjoyed ourselves, despite this.

Overall a good experience, but we went to some of the other hotels, to look around, and Club Med La Pointe can definitely learn something from them...

For those of you hesitatingto travelin Aug/ Sep, don't. We had the best weather, nice and warm - perfect beach weather and cool in the evenings...

This was a much needed break and from the moment we were met at the airport by Club Med Shuttle to the day we left 8 days later - we had the best holiday ever. I've been to Club Med Shandrani which in itself was fantastic as well as other resorts, - but I must definitely say that this resort surpassed them all. At the reception - petite blue-eyed Liza to South African born Tegan - both need a special mention. They went out of their way to make us comfortable. Tegan went the extra step to find me an "Eau de Toilette" that the resort uses and purchased this for me.
The Barmen - Gael, Alpha and all the other barmen, were friendly and happy to mix up any concoction that my heart desired and always with a smile.
The Waiters - too many to mention - quick efficient service. The Chefs - the food was amazing - no over-abundance but definitely enough to suit every pallet.
Jannick - who was very efficient in organising excursions as was Pierre who ran the scuba diving division.
Taslima - our cleaning lady - what a beautiful smile and always happy, willing and ready to assist.
The rooms were a little dark - more lighting would've been welcomed, but one gets used to this. The rooms were always extremely clean and well looked after. We had a snag with the TV reception and the maintenance guy was there within minutes.
The resort is superb, the decor lovely. The beach - a dream to lie on and do nothing.
The entertainment was just that - entertaining and it was lovely to see the staff's interaction both amongst themselves as well as with the visitors. What the mini-club did with the kids was so much fun to watch!
I would definitely, without hesitation visit this resort again.

Good resort, nice rooms. The beach is quite nice, but the best is to move on the left side of the resort, wonderful clean water.
All day long activities. GO ok, some of them were really nice and tried to do their best to make your stay as pleasent as possibile.
The food was good, but at the restaurant on beach there are too many birds and mosquitos on bread, parmisan, in general on the food. They have to care more about hygiene.
Only one restaurant open, but the resort was quite empty.
I got a really good price for the all inclusive.

took the family to Club Med (our first visit to a Club Med) for 10 days. Their kids club is top class. Their staff looking after the Mini club are amazing and put their all into letting the kids have an amazing time. The accommodation was smart and clean. It was surprising that the all in package, meant that there was no refreshments in the mini bar or teas and coffee's in the rooms. The food was good and the service attentive. The resort is quite "french centric" but all staff spoke French well. I think they should talk up their theme nights more in their literature that is sent to guests before they arrive, as we were completely un-aware of the theme's and dress code they encourage for these theme events.
