“We like to stay here”
Reviewed May 28, 2013

My wife and I booked luxury studios and stayed here for 6 days (from 30th April to 6th May 2013).

We were much impressed by everything that La Pointe Villa gave to us.

Before we left home, the owner, George contacted with me for the time we would get to the Mauritius, then hegave us an early check-in regarding to the flight schedule of Hongkong to Mauritius and told us the the room we would stay had been ready. Moreover Georges also helped us to contact with a kind local driver for picking us up and asked him to give us a good price, and then, when we walked out of the airport, Mr.Bim who is the car's driver had arrived the airport early and gave us a warm welcome in name of La Pointe Villa.

The La Pointe Villa environment is excellent, our room is very cleanliness and everything in the kitchen is very practical. The location of La Pointe Villa is good and near the shops&restaurants, we can walk to the Mon Choisy beach in 10 minutes and the beach is very beautiful, it is easy to take bus to grand baie and SuperU(big shopping mall).

The manager, Mr.Paul is very humorous and kind man, we received his hospitality. When we got to the hotel, Mr.Paul showed us around the room and told us that he had prepared some food for us(i.e water, bread, juice) in the fridge. After this, he also gave us a lot of advice for our trip in Mauritius, what he recommended was very useful and budget for us, all of us think that he is a dependable friend.

To sum up, we had a great days in here, we are happy to see more and more people to choose the La Pointe Villa for their trip to Mauritius.

My husband and I stayed at La Pointe Villa 3rd to 17th Jan 2013. We arrived late in the evening due to unforseen circumstances (threatened cyclone) which delayed our flight by 13 hours. We were met by the caretaker/handyman Paul who was so friendly and kind. He checked us in and offered us a drink and a snack. The fridge in the apartment was stocked with some essentials i.e bread butter jam milk tea coffee and juice to see us through until the next morning.I thought this was a nice welcoming touch . Paul was really helpful without being pushy and arranged a great hire car for us for around £18 a day .We had a studio apartment on the ground floor by the swimming pool .It was quite adequate and spacious enough for 2 .We enjoyed being on the ground floor very handy for the pool and felt very safe in this gated complex. The location was perfect on a quiet street but near shops, restaurants and the lovely Mon Choisy beach. It was easy to get around by bus although we also enjoyed exploring further afield by car. The owner of the apartments Mr George Wong and his wife and daughter were also very friendly and hospitable. Mr Wong arranged a Balinese massage for us which was blissful. He also introduced us to the healing properties of pure organic aloe vera juice which he provided for us from his garden! We felt very honoured to be invited to dinner with George and his wife Madeline one evening in their home. The meal was absolutely delicious and it was lovely to experience authentic chinese cuisine. We have never experienced such wonderful hospitality on any other holiday. We would highly recommend La Pointe Villas for a relaxing stress free holiday in Mauritius and we really hope to return again soon .

La Pointe Villas are located in Pointe aux Cannoniers, a small and quiet place just outside Grand Baie, and within 10 minutes walking distance of Mont Choisy Beach. This is definitely the best place to stay as it is quiet and relaxed, away from the noise of Grande Baie. The rose garden, beautiful trees and plants within the complex make sitting around the swimming pool a truly relaxing experience. The villa is very secure with security gates and CCTV, there are also safes provided in the rooms to store your laptop and valuable possessions. However, I would have to say that I felt so secure here that I don’t think I would have ever needed to use the safe as this is a respectful place where everyone treats one another with the greatest respect. There is also WIFI so you can keep in touch with what’s happening on the outside world (if you want to) The kitchen in the villa is well equipped with microwave, cooker, fridge, freezer, cutlery etc.

The owner, George, really has and is making an amazing effort to ensure that these villas present every customer with a memorable experience and ensures attention is paid to every detail that the complex has to offer. He really knows how to make you feel welcome and relaxed
.
The Hotel Manager, Paul, is always on hand to help you with any requirements such as car hire or arranged tours of the island.

This truly is an impressive place with an impressive group of people working here – I was not surprised to see so many other great reviews saying such good things.

I look forward to returning!

We were two friends who stayed in a two bedroom apartment at La Pointe villas for 2 weeks, from 27th Dec 2012 to 10th January 2013. We found it to be the perfect place to stay! It´s situated at Point aux Canonnier, a small and quiet place near Grand Baie. The apartment was well equipped, so it´s possible to make more than breakfast. There is even a corner for barbecue outside (shared with the other guests)! We stayed across the street from where the reception was. There was plenty of room inside and outside, and a swimming pool and a tennis court. It was clean and pleasant, good standard. Paul is a fantastic man who pops up every day to see if you´re all right. And he can help you with almost everything! Big thanks and kiss to Paul!!
The wi-fi worked excellent the first week, but after a cyclon it was more unstable, probably because of the cyclon.
It´s easy to go to Grand Baie or other parts of the island by bus or taxi. Just around the corner there is a shop (Momos), where you can get supplements of food and drinks. There are also some restaurants in the neighborhood. And there is an agency (Shaka travel) that provides all kinds of activities. We went scuba-dooing (under water "scooter") and catamaran tour. Both made great experiences!! All the people we met were friendly!! The Mauritians are really a special kind.. :) We want to recommend going to Mauritius and to stay at La Pointe villas!!

We stayed in the 4 bed villa from 23rd Dec 2012 to 6th January 2013 with our 3 children aged 9,8 and 6. It was perfect, and we will definitely be going back.
I think there are something like 17 villas altogether, split across two sites (across the road from each other), each site with its own pool, so there was never a sunbed availability issue. There is only one 4 bed villa, but there are some 3 bed, 2 bed,and studios. The 4 bed villa is a separate house, and it gave us the freedom to do what we wanted when we wanted - not tied to feeding times in a hotel. Also, my 6 year old is a fussy eater, so I could make him food I knew he'd eat before the rest of us went out for meals.
Besides the 4 bedrooms (2 doubles, 2 twins) there is a shower room upstairs, and downstairs there is a living room, kitchen, downstairs loo (handy for using when you're having a pool day) and a big terrace to eat at. All the sockets were UK 3 pin, which also accept Euro 2 pin plugs. There is a safe in the main bedroom. Plenty of storage, apart from one of the twin rooms (but enough elsewhere to compensate). I think the only tiny problem I had was that the only mirror was in the bathroom. I ended up buying a little handheld mirror to use in the bedroom. In the kitchen there is a 2 ring electric hob, a microwave and a large fridge/freezer (no oven). We loved that you could just help yourself to drinks from your own fridge on pool days - not have to buy them from the pool bar.
What made our holiday was Paul, the manager of the villas. From the outset he was so helpful and friendly, but without being pushy. We arrived tired and late, and one of our cases was lost, and he was so welcoming. He showed us our villa, and how stuff worked (the safe, the aircon, etc), and then said he would do the paper work in the morning when we weren't so tired. We said we'd like to eat, so he made a phone call, and found somewhere that was open and took us there (it was just a short walk from the villa). Every day he would pop round when we were up and about and say hi, and ask if we needed anything. He arranged our hire car (at a fraction of the price of the rep) and a meal for Xmas Eve and NYE (which are very busy nights). He can arrange anything, and you know you're getting the best deal. But he's not pushy about it. He mentions something, but he doesn't mention it again if you're not interested.
Also when we arrived there was a 'welcome' kit of a baguette, butter, jam, coffee, eggs, juice, and water, which was fantastic.
The maid came in every day (even Christmas Day!), and made the beds and cleaned the floors. I'm not sure how often she changed the towels and sheets, but it was several times during our stay. She also did a bag of washing for us for RS200 (about £4).
There is a shop (Momos) just around the corner which sells most things you could want. And there is a beach 10 minutes walk away (Mon Choisy). So it is possible to stay here without a car. Especially because the buses are very regular (from outside Momos) and cheap (RS16 per person into Grand Baie - about 30p). But the buses stop at 7.30pm, and taxis charge RS250 to Grand Baie (though we found if you offered them RS200, they were happy with that). Grand Baie is the nearest proper 'resort' and it's about a 10 minute drive. There's a big French hypermarket called Super U there, and that's where we went every day to buy our provisions - all that gorgeous French food and wine (and even though it's imported from France, it's not outrageously expensive).
We also went to a beach called La Cuvette - just on the north as you leave Grand Baie. Mon Choisy is a nice beach, but very popular with Mauritians at weekends and holidays. And we had a bit of a problem with Mauritian men wanting to touch our blond haired kids, and have their photos taken with them, which scared our kids a bit. La Cuvette is a small beach, and picture postcard perfect. There's toilets, changing facilities and snack shacks, and a little car park.
We got ripped off once on Mon Choisy beach as well, by the ice cream van. It was our second day, and I hadn't quite got my head round the money, and ended up paying £15 for 4 ice creams! Live and learn! And on New Year's Eve the restaurant we went to had put their prices up for bottles of wine - everywhere we'd been paying RS800-RS900 (about £16-£18) for a bottle of house wine. On NYE this restaurant wanted RS1300 for a bottle of South African house wine (£26). Typically, the meals were equivalent of £60-£70 (that would be 4 of us eating, because my little boy doesn't eat out - not even chips!), and we'd have 2 starters between us, 4 mains, 3 or 4 beers, and 3 or 4 soft drinks. Our Xmas Eve and NYE dinners were more expensive (about £120 each), but then you'd expect that.
Two restaurants I can recommend are Stephanies at Mon Choisy (we went on Xmas Eve, and again on our last night because we'd enjoyed it so much, and the owner is very friendly). And La Capitaine in Grand Baie (on the seafront - great views).
Trips I'd recommend are to La Vanille Reserve in the south of the island (about 1 1/2 hours drive) to see the giant tortoises (sit on them, feed them, walk amongst them) and the crocodiles (go on feeding day, you've never seen anything like it!). Have a look at the volcanic crater in Trou Aux Cerfs (Curepipe) - it's deep! And the botanical gardens at Pamplemousse (definitely pay the RS50 each when you're inside for the guided tour - the guides know so much that isn't in the book). I'd recommend getting a car and doing your own tours - it's so much cheaper than doing the organised ones, and you go at your own pace.
Make sure you keep your suncream topped up - I committed the cardinal sin of letting my kids get sunburnt. Factor 50 all the way from now on.
The airport on Mauritius is not equipped for all the tourists coming home - so there isn't enough seats and only one small cafe to get drinks when you leave (and of course, youcan't take water through security with you).
We loved it - it was more French than I think I was expecting (we didn't meet any other British people, and barely saw any other European children). If we can possibly afford it, we are definitely going to go back.

We stay here for a week starting on Dec 26. The place was exactly what we were looking for. Nice, clean, furnished , equipped with AC and Wi-Fi. Small, but cute pool. The location is great with fantastic beaches at a short distance and plenty of restaurants and bars in the nearby Grand Baie. In addition to this, Paul, the manager of the place is really helpful and goes out of his way to help you, even if you have problem with your car!
