“Surrounded by Nonstop Construction, Unfinished Dirt Stairs, Faulty Appliances, Etc.”
Reviewed January 22, 2018 for a stay in January 2018

Las Catalinas is beautiful, no doubt about it. As is this home.

BUT it is literally surrounded at all sides by nonstop construction (starting at 7am and ending at 5:30pm) on homes and villas that are being built. My family and I stayed there for 8 days and for each and every one of them we looked out upon a cloud of dust and dozens of workers hammering, sawing, pouring concrete, and yelling back and forth as we attempted to "relax" by the pool.

Not only that, but the entire community is undergoing so much construction that even walking down the very steep hill and the unfinished dirt steps down to the beach was incredibly challenging. It's even a bit awkward because you have to walk through all the construction and the workers stop and wait so that you're not literally covered in dust.

What's more?! The "hot tub" didnt work the entire time we were there. Someone was sent to fix it the second day, couldnt figure it out, and that was that. There were issues with lights and electricity. AND we had to have the home fumigated for scorpions!

When booking this home we were specifically told there would be NO construction (there was a photo showing a bit of work being done so we asked about it directly - that photo has since been removed from the VRBO listing). To say it affected our trip is an understatement. It woke us up every morning, made it utterly impossible to relax on the deck and by the pool, and made the walk to the beach far more challenging for my father who uses a cane.

Had we known, we wouldve booked elsewhere.

We tried to communicate with Las Catalinas the entire time and we have yet to receive any word of how they wish the remedy this situation.

I highly advise you book elsewhere.

Would you recommend this hotel to a friend?   No.

Management Response
Jan 31, 2018
Thank you for your thorough review. We are very sorry to see that your family vacation did not go the way you expected and apologize for the inconveniences.

Our town in Las Catalinas is steadily growing, which is a source of pride for us. As a result, construction is ongoing in some areas of our beach town and though we make our best efforts to minimize any possible disturbance, some of the activity may still be visible or audible at times.

We make it a point to let our potential guests know about the situation when they inquire about a property near the construction site, as some are more sensitive to it than others. From what you and your other party members commented in your reviews, both here and onsite, we should have done a better job in also getting that message across the board to all our travel agency partners. As such, we are reviewing all our communications to avoid any confusion in the future.

We did our best throughout your stay to solve the issues you described and accommodated your family with car transfers directly to and from the villa whenever possible, even though it is not a standard or customary service of ours. We regret to hear that neither our service and assistance, nor the compensation we provided, were enough to offset those mishaps.

We really hope you’ll give us and Villa del Sol another chance in the future, when
construction has subsided around it (it is, as you said, a beautiful home) or in some of our rentals in other parts of Las Catalinas. We promise to do better!

Best regards,
