Personal trip around newzealand. Stayed one night there. only 2 chalets, we had the smaller one. The place is quite isolated from the civilisation even if it is quite close from barrytown. But the panorama is great, the sea is close even if no direct acces is possible. The garden is beautifull, the chalet are modern and very confortable and very well equiped.I did not met the owners, just had phone contact but they were very polite and profesional. I recommand at 100%

This was our second stay here, and it remains one of our favourite spots. Would highly recommend staying here, and being pet friendly is a huge bonus for us. Can't wait to stay again in a few weeks time.

Beach Hideaway consists of two villa "units" along the seashore in a remote part of the NZ West coast. The setting is beautiful, but be sure to do your shopping before you arrive, because the nearest town (Greymouth) is about 20 minutes drive away.

The spa tub is pretty cool and is set in a little hut with a lovely viewing window out to the sea. There is also an area where guests can light an outdoor bonfire outside.

The villas are nicely decorated and quite functional, but the cooker only has a 2 ring hob on it (at least that is all there was in the villa we stayed in).

On the downside, there are no staff on site. All enquiries are done via telephone to the owners/managers in Christchurch. The owners seemed friendly and helpful, but you can feel a little isolated when you want to ask a simple questions and don't really want to make a call to somebody who is probably busy putting their kids to sleep on the other side of the country....

My partner and I stayed at the Beach Hideaway last month, October 2012. We booked the two bedroom chalet for four nights, with friends joining us for two.

On arrival, we simply had to enter the code into the security lock and the place was magically ours. The living area was spacious and heated by a very good, flame effect fire powered by gas. It quickly warmed the room up and was very cosy. The good quality thick curtains helped keep the room warm and comfy. The room had a satellite TV (as indeed did the two bedrooms) and an entertainment unit. The dining area was a good size and the kitchen too. Normally we don't 'self cater' but did so on two nights and the kitchen had almost all we needed, but alas, no colander to drain the pasta!

One bedroom had a extremely comfortable double bed and a door leading into a very good sized bathroom. The other bedroom had two singles. All beds had electric blankets, but a small room heater would be a real bonus.

Surprisingly the unit didn't have a dishwasher. With quality dishwashers now available at such a reasonable cost, this was a surprise and really missed. Perhaps a lack of space was the reason, but perhaps the washing machine could be relocated elsewhere?

The gardens are beautiful and the location just stunning.

Internet is available at a small charge (this isn't at all obvious and the instructions in the information booklet are incorrect). A quick 0800 call to the owner sorted this out. Perhaps the European couple staying in the other chalet used up all the data (no caps or such nonsense there) as it was painfully slow and worse than dial up. Internet isn't usually on my list of wants, but on this trip I needed to use it a couple of times. It didn't matter though.

The lady that came to tidy and check everything is OK was simply delightful and great to talk to. What a pity she didn't tell us her name!

With a couple of tweaks this place would be perfect. However, it really is great and I thoroughly recommend it and will certainly stay there again.

My husband and I only spent one night in this lovely cottage and we would love to come back and spend more time in this area. It's beautiful, with a view of the ocean and very peaceful. I would recommend stopping at a grocery store for supplies as the cottage has a stove, refrigerator and microwave. On their website they offer breakfast, either continental or full. We ordered the full and when we checked in all the items were in our little fridge for us to make the next morning. We loved that and it was probably the best breakfast for my husband which included eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast. He's not a big fan of the granola the NZ people are fond of:)
It was about a 10 minute drive to the Pancake rocks which I recommend seeing. We went twice while we were in the area and yes, high tide is the time to go.

I can't speak highly enough of Beach Hideaway. We went for a relaxing weekend away and that's exactly what we got. We were lucky that no one was staying in the other cabin so we had sole use of the (amazing) hot tub and outdoor fire pit. We were also lucky that the weather was clear so got a good fire going which was perfect for roasting marshmallows. The cabin itself was also fantastic; everything was clean and modern and the Sleepyhead bed was so comfortable. I can also recommend the fish and chip shop in Runanga for a cheap, tasty meal.

If you want to get away and relax, a bit off the beaten track, then this is a great place. Be prepared that there is no local supermarket (I think the closest would be 20 minutes drive away in Greymouth) and the closest restaurant is Punakaiki. There is also no management onsite. There was a phone outside the cabins which we used to call the number listed, and they gave us the code to get into the cabin. For us these were all big pluses though and added to the feeling of "getting away".

I would also recommend knifemaking in Barrytown (just down the road) for a fabulous day activity, a walk along the beach, and of course a visit to the Pancake Rocks at high tide.

A one night stop but wished we could have stayed longer. The 2 bed house was beautifully set up - everything was perfect. As it was secluded we took our own food and had a barbeque. The beach was a short, enjoyable walk away and the hot tub a definite big plus. We would thoroughly recommend this holiday accommodation - FABULOUS
