Wow. What amazing place to stay. Beautiful cabins in the middle of nowhere. But there are beautiful swimming holes, an incredible billabong TEAMING with wildlife, lots of crocs and birds, a real treat. And the rock art is a real treat. If you can do it this is a must see part of the Northern Territory.

Dazzling. Unique. Magic. Savage and sublime. Thios is Mother Nature with her hair down. Crocs galore, whistling ducks and magpie geese come in clouds, jabirus, brolgas, white breasted sea eagles, etc etc. The wetlands of Arnhemland are one of the world's special places and Davidson's Safari Lodge is its viewing platform. But while the wildlife is phenomenal, the rock art is mind blowing. On these scorched rock walls can be seen not just the evolution of an artistic style that dates back 50,000 years but the fact of climate change. Davidson's is not to be compared with, say, an upmarket safari camp in Botswana's Okavango Delta but te totally rebuilt lodge now offers a comfortable base for exploring one of the special corners of the planet. As always the staff are brilliant and Davidson's now has several local Aboriginal guides who bring their own unique perspective to the experience. There are five places in Australia that leave me groping for words and this is one of them.

My wife and I stayed three nights in this very special part of Australia. We loved every second of it.
We needed three full days to tackle the variety of adventures available, which included exploring the landscape, rock art, billabongs, fishing, swimming and socialising with other guests and staff.

Room Tip: The fitness centre is the great outdoors, 100 metre rock pool and as much walking and climbing as you want. All rooms are great.

Interesting reading all the earlier reviews as much is noted of Max and his impact. Clearly missing now. Clare and her guides do a terrific job with all the tours and meeting all the guests needs. Cannot fault them and they and the tours made the visit worthwhile. However the food was average at best (somehow roast meals don't fit with the venue, nor does packet cheese, Ritz crackers and cabanossi qualify as high quality nibbles) and there was no atmosphere created by the resort management. They do not appear to have made the transition from campsite to upmarket resort - shame as this will have a negative impact going forward.

Room Tip: Always ask to have your room serviced daily, otherwise they do not go near them! Mosquitoes and midges are a challenge so take plenty of spray!

Thank you for your review.
Unfortunately this guest was obviously expecting a 5 star upmarket resort, when we strive to only advertise as a 4 star safari lodge in a very remote area.
I would also like to mention that Clare is upper management and has been with the company for the past 7 years.
We are all glad you really enjoyed your tours.

Not for the fainthearted if nervous of tiny planes or unhappy with mozzies.
Ideal season: May/June as wetlands only just beginning to dry out.
Highlights: remote, majestic and mystical Arnhemland, scenery, wildlife and art.
Swimming in a glorious rock pool and cruising through the paperbark forest where I expected "ten canoes" to appear. A feeling of ancient ancestors in sacred places.
Low points: cuisine (lack of it, and of competent and welcoming service compared to that experienced in similar lodges).
Seemed to be resting on its laurels which is a shame as this was a truly pioneering venture.

Room Tip: Chalets 19 or 20
