“A Hidden Gem”
Reviewed June 27, 2013

We spent 4 nights at Davidson's and it is a must see visit for anyone wanting to experience the aboriginal history and fauna and flora of the area. Location is superb - close to wetlands and escarpment. Twice daily outings were organised to suit the capabilities of guests....fantastic rock art and masses of birds and wildlife. The guides were interesting, helpful and friendly and respectful of the environment and aboriginal heritage. Thank you Bridget. Food and accommodation was fantastic considering we were in a very isolated place. I would recommend Davidson's to Aussies of all ages and international visitors wanting to see this amazing area.

Room Tip: By the creek is peaceful except for the birds!

flying over the wetlands, because all the roads to arnhelmland had been flooded, was spectacular! great service!
there is no discussion about the outstanding nature, the fishing (and the guarantee to fish one of the biggest in your life), about the knowledge of the very kind funny attentive rangers - about the rock arts, the hikes and the boat trips.... it is really awesome.

but those tents, they were NEVER cleaned ones (sometimes it is necessary, especially with ladies living there): YUK!
the food had been always great, 3 times a day you shared your meal with the other guests and it is fun!
But dont ask for a coffee in between - nope, not possible...

Room Tip: Any tent is fine as they are furnished exactly the same.

We are glad you enjoyed your time out here, we are all very lucky to be able to visit such a pristine environment, the wet season with the flooded wetlands is amazing out here.

We are disappointed that your ensuited cabin was apparently not clean, this should have been brought to our attention at the time and it would have been immediately rectified. Cabins are all inspected prior to arrival and daily servicing is an option that guests can choose during their stay. (as noted in the guest information sheets contained in every cabin)

Thankyou for visiting and writing about your experience at Mt Borradaile.

We spent three nights at Davidson's Safari Camp and thoroughly enjoyed every moment.
Ray (the lodge Manager) has a terrific team: they have great passion for what they are doing and also great respect for the surrounding environment.
We had an absolutely delightful guide - Bridget. She spent 3 days showing us all the wonderful attractions in the area and ensured we did not go home without catching a big barra! Bridget is knowledgeable, witty, talented and just very good company. She even taught herself an Elivs song to play for us after dinner on her ukulele. (A great voice too!)
You can see crocodiles and rock art in other places, but this is a very special place to go.
Our cabin was excellent as was the food.

We spent four nights at the Lodge and lost all track of anything but the wonder of Arnhem Land.
What an enormous privilege it was to be allowed to wander with our guides in this wilderness....not rushed in any way...able to marvel at our own pace...and yet feeling perfectly safe.
Our eyes relished scanning a horizon for four days, rather than a computer screen! Our tummies were nourished by excellent home cooked, freshly prepared food. My husband caught the big barra he'd been dreaming about for months and the rock art blew my mind. Having seen the crocs and the birds totally at ease in their natural environment, I will never venture into a zoo again. I have been spoiled forever! The respect shown by the staff of Davidson's for their guests, their environment, their aboriginal owners and each other was truly exemplary. Our Chart Air flight in was very professional. Something very special indeed!

We visited Max Davidson's Safari camp in October 2012 on the advice of good friends who had thoroughly enjoyed the experience earlier in the year. After a weekend in Darwin, we hired a car and drove the 5 hours to the camp arriving about lunchtime. We were welcomed and shown around by Ray and were soon seated to have a healthy and generous lunch which we shared with another couple and Claire, our guide for the next three days. Over this time we visited different areas of amazing rock art, travelled up and down waterways seeing crocodiles and birds and fishing. We were able to tailor our experiences to minimise the heat, heading out early in the morning, having a swim and a rest after lunch then going out later in the afternoon to see something else. Claire was a fabulous guide who was willing to please; the company, food,(cooked by Ray), art, sunset cruise and the fishing were all highlights.

We had a great time. Stayed for two nights in September [should have stayed 3]. We had a great time seeing nature on the wetland. We both liked how this place in unpretentious and laid-back. Communal meals were fun, and the food fantastic. We had the best barramundi ceviche, ok the best ceviche, that I can remember ever eating. Highlights were the day-trip excursions to see the local rock art.

Room Tip: Ask about day trips to see the local rock art.

What an amazing place. The reasons you might visit include the diverse birdlife, a wonderful array of indigenous rock art and artefacts, beautiful wetlands and fantastic fishing that you can have all to yourself. The staff are well informed and seem to enjoy their jobs. The young guides do a great job. Altogether an unforgettable experience.

It is a long way from civilisation, but somehow the staff manage to provide excellent meals that would not be out of place in an upmarket restaurant in a capital city, as well as an environment that feels relaxing and luxurious despite the constraints imposed by the isolated location. We visited for three nights but would have been very happy to stay a couple more. It is not cheap, but it is great value for money.

Room Tip: There is no real difference between the cabins
