“Hated to Leave & Miss Staff. Almost Like Home Away from Home. Dental Vacation.”
Reviewed April 13, 2012

My friend & I stayed for ten days, from 01/29 - 02/08/2012. Tony & Javi are the caretakers of this wonderful hacienda and there is also a wonderful cook available, and her first day started the day we arrived & their driver's name is Angel. We used Angel for the first couple days there, but after that we walked everywhere by choice. The hotel is only about 3 blocks away from Sani Dental, and only takes a few minutes to stroll there, we always felt quite safe doing that. Lol, even the street venders got to joking with us as we passed them, they knew we weren’t buying, had some great laughs with them...and pretty much everyone speak English in some level.

Back to Hacienda Los Algodones, Where the office is, they have a full kitchen, dining room, 4 computers & Wi-Fi fully available to use. Outside, in the courtyard, there’s a great bar, tables & chairs, bathrooms etc. We were even invited to do a couple loads of laundry because we had to stay longer than anteceded. At 10 pm, the gates are shut & padlocked till 6 am, but there’s a bell to ring, because Javi, Tony or someone is always there 24/7.

Our room #12 we stayed is a "Jr Suite", and is absolutely beautiful, clean & comfortable. They have wonderfully thick bath towels, great shower with high water pressure, nice thick extra blankets because it dropped into to high 40's at night and we would have to switch on the heater/AC that’s mounted on the wall above the bathroom door. The beds are rather firm, good for your back with sheets that are thick & comfortable, think they’re jersey material.

Sometimes, nearby the hall that led to our room, cigarette smoke would leech into our room from smokers in the courtyard, because there's no weather stripping around the doors. Found if you hang their Mexican blanket over the door and tuck it into the crevices around the door, no more smoke, the blanket also helped muffle some of the noises from inconsiderate patrons that drank a few too many. Although once or twice confronted certain patrons, they knew not to smoke in certain areas & to "try" and keep it quite. Quite time supposed to start at 10pm - 8 am.

Speaking of "Quite", we knew to bring ear plugs, from previous reviews, but just don't bring any ear plugs~ invest in some "Wax Earplugs", they block out almost 100% noise and they mold to your ears. The foam earplugs just muffle the sounds a little bit. You should be able to pick wax plugs up just about pharmacy or super store, they really helped the sleep. Although on the 7th day on I was used to the typical sounds and voices, and just used the blanket and slept well.
About the boarder;
We knew we would be there about a week for our dental trip to Sani Dental, and last thing we needed/wanted was more stress & time crossing the border & dealing with parking, so that’s why we choose this hotel, plus had great reviews. Our car was safe and secure and was just feet from our room within their compound.
We found best times to leave is between 10-11 am, usually car lines are very short. Seems like going in and out by car is much MUCH quicker then on foot, they have paid parking lots inside to watch your car. Although sometimes the car lines stretch for many blocks~ it’s all about timing and the days and Mondays seem the busiest of all. Sometimes folks stand or sit in lines 1 to 4 hours to leave, by car or foot.
The town is great; we really enjoyed the walking around town. There are all sorts of pharmacies here too, you can really get some amazing deals on your scripts, just got to shop around. The biggest store is the purple one, but I found them to be a little higher, but they also have a grocery store in there with a deli/coffee bar.
I would totally stay there again; they made us feel like family during our 10 day stay. And if you’re interested in a good dental clinic, Sani Dental took great care of us and paid for our room! My friend had 26 crowns & Laser cleaning and me 5 crowns, 6 fillings, laser whitening (totally awesome) and operation to remove infection that reached into the bone from a root canal that wasn't long enough. At Sani, they have many specialists that you see depending on what work was needed. My friend and I are totally satisfied with all the work done, they were very thorough till we all were totally satisfied. I warn you, to make sure you double the time you think you spend. They spend quality time with patients, so bring your patients, a book or something to keep you occupied. You don’t want them to rush you through right? (Dr. Mikel was my dentist for the crowns)

You are welcome to contact me; we drove down there from Monterey, Ca. area, & took about 9.5 hrs. You'll be very happy with Hacienda Los Algodones, just remember the wax earplugs is all, no biggie. Place is adorable, convenient and safe.

My friend and I just returned from a 10 day stay at the Hotel Hacienda. We were recommended this hotel by Michael Hardenbrook of Dental Destinations. The clinic we used for our dental work is Sani Dental who work with the Hotel to accommodate their patients. We had a wonderful stay at this comfortable hotel. The staff made us feel like family. We had access to kitchen and there is a great cook on site for those who need a simple delicious meal. We really enjoyed our stay. Our experience at the Clinic was nothing short of fantastic. Both of us received a nice healthy new smile.

Room Tip: Rooms in back of hallways on first floor are a bit quieter just make sure to bring wax earplugs and...

I stayed here for 8 days in early December, 2011. The rooms are nice and the bed was very comfortable. Hotel staff, Tony and Jave are exceptional; they arranged for my transportation to and from each dental appointment and picked my up at the border the night I arrived. They will provide room service or assist you if you want food delivered from another restaurant. Reasonably priced and you save the hassle of coming across the border every day if you are having a lot of dental work done. I loved the place and will go back again.

The hotel is very nice, comfortable beds and clean. The restaurant is not a real one LOL. Coffee etc but they pick up food from places for you if needed. You can even call them to pick you up at the border I found out when we were there. We drove in so no need but other people there did that. We have stayed there twice now and will again next winter when we have to go to the dentist again. People staying at the hotel recommended http://traceysdental.com/ and we went there and they were very good and spoke English well.

On November 28, 2011 we were in Los Algodonas for dental work. Due to an unusual situation we needed to stay one night there. Our dentist's office made a reservation for us. We were so pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Hacienda. Tony greeted us, took us to our room which was spotlessly clean with a comfortale bed and nice bathroom and made us feel so welcome. During the afternoon we walked back to town(took only a few minutes) to purchase wine, etc. At this time they do not have a permit. They will be putting in a computer for guest use soon. Wifi is available and our cell phone worked on US ATT with no additional charge. Tony prepared dinner which he served on the patio. The food was very good. He also prepared breakfast. We met several other guests, all of whom were very happy with their stay. There was absolutely no nighttime noise problem. There is security and parking. We plan to stay there again on our next dental visit.

I recently stayed three nights at Hacienda de Los Algodones while having dental work performed. The restaurant was never open due to the owner not bringing groceries but the staff had restaurant food delivered on one occasion and I was able to find places to eat in town the other times.

Be sure and bring ear plugs if you want to sleep at all. The accomodations are clean, basic, pleasant, and comfortable. The staff was exceptional. Interestingly, the place is built like a fortress and at night the high front gates are chained and padlocked; I assume for the safety of the visitors which initially was a bit unsettling but after spending several days there I personally had no untoward experiences and felt safe wherever I went in town.

Street vendors are everywhere but friendly and only trying to make a living.

All in all, an interesting experience, and you realize you're definitely not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy.

Room Tip: The staff offered me several rooms from which I could choose.

We stayed in this relatively new hotel during early October, 2011, for two nights. The rooms are very nice and clean, the bathrooms were exceptionally clean and the dining facility provides a very good selection for a reasonable breakfast. There are about 18 rooms with a varying price structure. Their website haciendalosalgodones.com provides pictures of the rooms and the pricing. There is no pool.

The hotel is located on the edge of Los Algodones about 4 blocks from the border crossing so it is within walking distance if one does not want to drive across. Parking is available in the courtyard for the hotel but somewhat cramped..

The hotel is located within easy walking distance to several restaurants/bars and souvenir vendors. But, it is also close to many dentists, pharmacies, and optical shops.

We will definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the ground floor...as most are..in the front of the hotel may be a bit noisy at night a...
