“A little bit of Yorkshire in the Glens”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2009

My wife, mother in law and I stayed here on the second night of a night tour of Scotland. We were lucky enough to experience 5 lovely places to stay. The Glen hotel looks good from the outside and the warm Yorkshire welcome from the Landlord did not disappoint.
The rooms are very well appointed and facilities very comfortable. Good size comfortable double bed with comfy chairs and flat screen TV. Bathroom was ample sized with good walk in shower.
We took an evening meal at the Glen and was offered this in the bar area or the quieter dining room. We chose the dining room. The food was lovely with ample portions and good value for money. The breakfast next morning had good choice and once again excellent value and served promptly, politely and hot. It's amazing what you find in these small villages. At the end of the street are the 'Dancing Waters' something we had seen once before in Florida. A 45 minute show of coloured waters dancing to music in a small theatre holding approx 70-100 people. Well worth a visit at around £3.
No hesitation in recommending The Glen hotel.

We had a wonderful time here. The new bar is lovely, great Ales and food in a great space. I wish we would have had more time to stay and the next time we are on holiday in Scotland we will make a concerted effort to drop in again.

A small well run Highland hotel. Staff and owner were very helpful, very conscious of customer service. A couple of minor requests were dealt with very efficiently. Food was fine and some outstanding value deals are available at this hotel. Rooms were clean but walls are a bit thin, alarm clocks could be heard through wall, but that would be my only gripe. Outstanding example for other Scottish hoteliers to follow and a good atmosphere for foreign visitors.

Have stayed at this hotel for the past ten years, a great base for all the golf courses in the area. Hotel is vibrant with a great atmosphere. The breakfasts are to die for and the evening meals are brilliant, great big portions. Rooms are very clean and big, clean towels daily etc. The hosts Kim and Chris are real stars and always make you feel welcome, nothing is to much for them. Special mention for Jean ,who has been there for years, always pleasant and a true gem.
Shall be back again this year.

Stopped for three nights - wish it could have been seven.

Lovely comfortable rooms with Sky TV. Very clean throughout.

Food great, the best we had in Scotland

Staff charming and helpful.

Good entertainment (usually three nights a week). Very busy bar and prices generally cheaper than we paid in other parts of the Highlands.

I've stayed here a couple of times visiting family always had a friendly reception and a lovely room. Food is great try the venison steak yum! Breakfast is just fine. Friendly staff and some great local entertainment in the evenings, not what I'm used to but still great fun.

  • Liked — The food and ambience
  • Disliked — Perhaps a little noise late at night - but that is to be expected its a PUB

I had to attend Aviemore for business as a last minute thing (night before) so after searching various places I finally found The Glen Hotel, Newtonmore (10 miles south of Aviemore). The website was very inviting so for fifty-five pounds my wife and I booked up the night before staying!
Outside view was a typical pub... there sign's were trying to entice the passing trade.
Check in is after 2pm and check out is before 10 (?).
After we checked in at 5ish (which went very smoothly as staff was very friendly) we went to the bar for some food.
We just managed to get a seat and I could see why... The food was amazing!!! Just above average prices for a pub (Sirloin steak £12.50 & Chicken Korma £7.50) but when you see what you get, it then becomes very reasonable (Huge portions).
The bar prices for that area were "O.K." Morgan’s & coke 35ml £2.15 (?) and Pint of lager etc about £2.50 - £2.70 mark.
Now on to the entertainment......
Every few days the bar has some sort of entertainment and that night was........ I hope I don’t offend him by saying this as he was very good... But the chap who was playing was a Rastafarian Chinese bloke who sung folk music!!! He put an element of comedy into it. As he was born and brought up in the local area had a broad local accent which as the “English” couple sitting next to us too hard to understand!
Never the less I thought he was GREAT! And would recommend seeing him.
The only other thing to say is that the owners are a great friendly couple and if I was going back anywhere near this area I would be opting to stay her!
