“Best B&B in Scotland”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 30, 2012

Travelled with a friend and stayed one night in the twin bedded room. The B&B is well located at the south end of Newtonmore - a five/ten minute walk to the main street. Parking at the house is clearly marked and on stepping out of the car we were greeted by the owner's gentle dog. Marion also gave us a very warm welcome and we were offered tea/coffee, much appreciated after the drive from Edinburgh.
Our room was 'the Pines', a light, airy room with twin beds and plenty storage (wardrobe, drawers, luggage rack) for our short stay. For stays longer than two or three nights we would recommend one of the larger rooms (they are an excellent size). The Pines would also be good if you are travelling as a family with older children who would appreciate their own space. The beds were very comfortable and the room was furnished with two 'basket' style chairs, a flat screen TV/DVD player and excellent tea/coffee (and hot chocolate!) making facilities. A mini-fridge was available but we didn't use this. The en-suite shower room is bright and clean with plenty of towels, space to store toiletries and a good shower. The mini-toiletries provided (shower gel, shampoo, body lotion, hand soap and bar soap) are of a very good quality. The room overlooks the car parking/garden area with the chicken coop in the distance - the hens are very entertaining to watch and provide the delicious eggs for breakfast.
On the landing is a bookcase with lots of books and DVDs for guests to borrow. On another landing sits two very comfortable armchairs in front of a widow, copies of Scottish guidebooks, magazines etc are available on the coffee table here and it makes a cosy nook to plan your adventures. Comfortable seating is also available in the dining room with more books on Scotland, wildlife etc.
After booking our stay online, we were emailed a list of local places to eat. We ate at the Glen Hotel - five minutes walk from the B&B. You can also order evening meals in advance at Craig Na Shee or bring takeaway food to eat in the dining room.
The house and area are very peaceful and we both had a great night's sleep.
Breakfast - this was a real highlight of our stay - both the food and Marion's helpful disposition were excellent. You are asked to make your cooked choices the evening before and breakfast is served in a lovely dining room. When we stayed there was a choice of cereals/muesli, Greek yoghurt, fruits (including strawberries, blueberries, melon, prunes), flavoured yoghurt and pastries. Full Scottish breakfast is available and other cooked options including kippers, porridge and breakfast rolls. My friend declared the full Scottish breakfast - bacon, sausage, tomato, beans, mushroom, fried egg, black pudding and toast - to be the best he's ever had (and he's eaten a fair few of these over the years in everywhere from five star hotels to transport cafés).
Marion made some very helpful suggestions as to what we could do that day. At her suggestion we visited the Cairngorm reindeer herd - a fantastic experience which included feeding the reindeer on the hills.
Coig Na Shee is a first class B&B. It is small and friendly and the standards are truly excellent. The room prices are very reasonable and are superb value for money. Marion clearly works very hard to ensure that all guests have a wonderful stay in her family's home. Staying here made our trip to the Newtonmore/Cairngorm area and we are already planning a return visit.

Marion and Graeme's B&B home is a great place to spend your time away from home. A warm, relaxing friendly place for a family of 4. The room was awesome, nicely decorated, clean and had everything we needed. The kids absolutely loved it. Can't really say enough about the hospitality of Marion and Graeme; friendly, always helpful and always with smiles on their faces. Highly recommended.

We travel quite a lot and we enjoy staying at bed and breakfast because of the special homey feeling they usually offer but Coig Na Shee exceed our expectations. Strategically positioned on the hill overlooking a field with sheep and immersed in a beautiful landscape the house is welcoming, the rooms big, fresh and cosy with wonderful views and very nice bathrooms. Its hosts, Marion and Graeme are just perfect and very knowledgeable with plenty of good tips about what to do, to see and where go for a good meal. We enjoyed every moment and wished our stay was not so short. We will definitely visit again and we highly recommend it as a perfect place to visit the Cairngorms National Park and environments.

Room Tip: Because of the privileged position all rooms are very light and quiet and with a view on the beautif...

Marion knows how to do what she does. Welcome warm and efficient. Not gushy or obtrusive. Rooms clean, fresh and modern. Breakfast all you can ask for.

Go there, enjoy it and you will go back.

Room Tip: Website has pictures. So request from that as a guide.

Marion and Graeme's bed and breakfast has all you need for a perfect stay in the Cairngorms. The rooms are huge, with very comfy beds and wonderfully large windows to capture views of the surrounding countryside. The bathrooms rate as the best of any B&Bs we have visited. Breakfast was lovely, standard choices, but set apart by the quality of the butcher meat.

I can't rate this place highly enough! We turned up on our bikes, soaked to the skin after an 80 mile ride in the rain, and, even though we were dripping water on their clean floors.. we were warmly welcomed with a pot of tea, and offers to dry our clothes on the arger. The house and rooms are beautifully decorated and very comfortable and quiet. Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts, and breakfast was excellent. We'll be back!
