Staying in "The Barn" gave us an excellent opportunity to have the walks we had chosen and have the tripos to different directions.
Coming home it felt at home and there were all the thing you need for a pleasant meal, rest and sleep. With plenty of information available for the moments of doubt what to do, due to the weather. We enjoyed it very much!
Barn cottage is one of 3cottages on a very quiet road above Newtonmore. Excellently placed for walking directly from the door into the hills or in to Newtonmore. Barn cottage was warm, the bed was comfy however ithe cottage was in need of some refurbishment, the fridge worked but was held together by tape and to switch off the lights above the bed it was necessary to stand up. Unfortunately the adjoining door to the next cottage was not soundproofed, so overall poor at the moment but with some work could be excellent.
This is the perfect base to explore the Highlands. it is near to the village but feels like you are in the middle of nowhere. Cottage is well equipped and has everything you need. Warm, clean, owners lovely, peaceful. Cant wait to book for next year. Just Lovely!

A brilliant place to stay with stunning views of the mountains around Newtonmore. Placed on the "wild cat trail" there is good walking around the village. The closeness to convenient shops and village life yet feel you are in the midst of isolation was excellent for us as we do not want crowds. The Barn was well set up and every need catered for with the provision of equipment and the home from home feel to the accomodation. The owners were pleased to help with our enquiries of specific requests - including the nearest gluten free outlets- and provided excellent insight to local amenties and provision of walks in the Cairngorms etc. We found the place a pleasure to be in and were highly fortunate with the weather which was sunny on most days. We were pleased to see various discounts available at local eating places which helped us choose places to eat on recommendation. A thoroughly good place and was rated very good in comparison with other places we have stayedd in and around the Highlands mainly due to the owners being helpful yet not intrusive in their attention to our specific needs. The owner has an shop in town and next time we would like to link more with her art courses and complete a basic glass making course. There was also a variety of fused glass items which made excellent individualised presents to take back.

This was the perfect first long stop during our walking tour of The Highlands. It is such a peaceful and beautiful setting that one cannot help but relax. Anne and Iain who reside on the property are lovely hosts who maintain just the right amount of assistance if needed while at the same time leaving guests to enjoy the solitude. We stayed for a week but it could have been more. Newtonmore is a very central spot to embark on many breathtaking walks and the close neighbouring town of Kingussie is a delightful easy half day's walk away through magnificent territory.
The cottage is well stocked with welcoming tea/coffee/biscuits etc as well as a comfortable lounge and kitchen with more than everything one needs for self catering. There are books, TV and wifi and a very homely feel to the living area as well as good heating. The bedroom and bathroom of this cottage are small but adequate and the bedroom has a lovely window looking directly into a climbing rosebush. Barn cottage is most suited to a couple. There is excellent food from one of the local pubs we tried if you dont want to cook and the village is worth exploring. Highly recommended for a quiet getaway.
