Stayed 2 nights here last week and would recommend it. Large comfortable room and bathroom, we had our dog with us and that was no problem to the owners, our room was next to the staircase to the rear entrance, quick to get out with the dog if needed. We enjoyed the continental breakfast,(especially the brown soda bread), but payed extra to have cooked the second day(not included if you book with a KGB voucher) and that was very nice too. It is a quiet area, ideal for exploring the Cairngorms anfd Dougie the owner was happy to advise on walks and places to eat-we tried The Letterbox on his recommendation and were very pleased. Would recommend the hotel and be happy to stay there again.

Lovely silent place and very welcoming owners. Clean rooms and elegant common spaces, where you feel like at home. We used Craigerne as our base for walking in Highlands and were pleased with the choice.

This was our second visit to the Craigerne. There won't be a third. Doug is a nice chap and all that, but we got the impression that he was just playing at running the hotel. You want examples? He didn't show us to our room, or offer to help with bags. The room wasn't especially clean - lots of dead beasties on the window sill. A half-hearted replacement plug on the basin, rather than get the missing one repaired. Breakfast? Very poor: a choice of cereal: corn flakes or bran flakes. That was it. Make your own toast. No croissants or pastries (despite the photo in their gallery.) Fruit juice? Orange only. Fruit salad? Ok, if all you want is melon, nectarine and stawberries. The actual breakfast menu? There wasn't one. Doug's offer on our first morning was, "Bacon, eggs, beans." That was it. Nothing else. It was better the second day - a sausage was added!
You want grapefruit, yogurt, smoked salmon or other smoked fish, mushrooms, tomato, black pudding, haggis, potato scones, hash browns or any of the other items that even the most basic B&Bs offer? You expect pepper in the pot on your table? You'd rather have a proper napkin than a sheet of kitchen roll? Better go somewhere else - you won't get them at the Craigerne.
