“A MARVELOUS PIECE OF HISTORY”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

What a stunning location! With the Grampian Mountains as the back drop you would be hard pushed to get a better view. You get the feeling it is all unchanged for hundreds of years.

“Interesting visit to a part of Scotland's history”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

I first visited the Barracks many years ago when it was very much less well-known. Now it is maintained by Historic Scotland (I think!) and there are boards providing the history of the barracks together with plaques naming the various parts and what they were used for.
Admission is completely free and there is ample parking.

“Fabulous Views”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

This barracks ruin is worth a look. The views up the Spey valley & across Insh Marshes are amazing. It's just a ruin, there's no facilities here, but it's a fascinating place to wander about.

Little plaques placed about the site tell you where things used to be. There's the main barracks building + stables out the back. It only has a teeny tiny car park but to be honest if it's full on the first pass you could easily pop in later.

“Amazing old building”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

There is free entry to these old barracks. There is no guide on duty, but the history is all displayed on boards.
It isn't far from Kingussie - a good walk if you are able, otherwise there is parking near by.

Well worth a visit!
