The barracks are in ruins but sit on a hill with great views up the River Spey and over the marshes. There is interesting information to read and I could really imagine the soldiers living there.

I live in Inverness and often viewed the barracks from the train as it passed through Kingussie - so one day decided to pay it a visit. I was pleasantly surprised and found the barracks very atmospheric. Historic Scotland provide helpful information on the site.

The Baracks is the place where there was the last battle in Britain even after Culloden. Goiong back from the Iron age to just after the Jacobite risings

Set amongst the Cairgorms, amazing scenery all round. Built on a small rise. Amongst the flood plain near Kingussie

The location of the barracks gives a great view of the surrounding area. Although you walk around on your own, no centre, the information boards have all the info you need.
