“Nice but noisy”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2007

I stayed at the hotel early October 2007. When I left the hotel at about 7pm I asked the receptionist, "does the air-con (situated under rooms windows) get turned off later" and she told it was at about 11pm. When I returned at about midnight, the air-con unit was still operating and save for a 15 minute break, at about 6am, it stayed on all night. Even with the windows closed it is impossible to sleep at this hotel. What is wrong with "managment"? Surely they must know about this problem but both allow customers to book and know they will not sleep! A good hotel spoilt by bad management.

Stayed at this hotel for on average for about two or three times a week over a number of months.

It tries to be many things and fails at most of them. The rooms need updating, unless you get one overlooking the river, for which you pay extra, your room will overlook the kitchen ducting system, which is noisy and goes on until about 11:30.
The menu has specials, but is pretty predictable and could do with a change. Monday night is quiz night so if you are trying for a quiet meal forget it!
Check in means you having to pay in advance and then extra for breakfast, which to be fair is probably the best thing they do.

The hotel seems to be pretty well booked up most of the time, so I think that until this slows down they will keep giving the same old average service in the same poor roooms so long as the cash register keeps ringing!

We stayed here for 3 days. The rooms and bathrooms definately need updating. The staff were pleasant enough. We didn't eat the breakfast because it was extra and we decided to go out instead. If you can get a reduced room rate and a riverside view then this is an ok hotel but it definately is not worth the normal room rate.

We booked this for a one night stay when racing at Sandown Park. Its excellent value if booked online through Active Hotels, and the river view rooms worth the extra. The only problem was that we were on the first floor and the guests on the second floor were very noisy and obviously wearing hobnail boots until well after midnight. We will go again, but will request a second floor room. The restaurant is pleasant, the menu wide and food fairly priced. Staff in hotel and restaurant were very friendly and helpful.

I have had three separate overnight stays at the Boathouse, which I use to visit an elderly relative who lives locally.
We have always paid extra for the riverview, on one occasion my daughter had another room overlooking the carpark, having seen it we were lucky to be able to change her to a riverview.
The rooms are quite basic but what you'd expect for the money. They are clean, adequately equiped and quite roomy.
While the cooked breakfast is only just average, I can strongly recommend lunch/dinner. We had a brilliant Sunday lunch in the veranda overlooking the river. The food is good 'pub grub' and excellent value for money. There is no room service; but on one evening we took a snack on a tray to our room because we didn't want to leave my young grandson. The staff were most helpful.
Both restaurant and Lodge are very child friendly which was our main criteria for choosing it, and we were made to feel very comfortable. I would perhaps add that if a quiet table for two was required on a Saturday night the Boathouse is not the place - it is buzzing with people of all ages.
I am due to make another stay shortly - I look forward to the evening meal and continental breakfast.

  • Liked — The riverview from rooms and restaurant
  • Disliked — It's getting a bit 'frayed round the edges'.
  • Tips/Secrets — Try getting a table in the veranda/conservatory area.

Good room-serviced daily. Good on line price. Restaurant seemed restricted if you have dietary requests, but otherwise decent food. Would return.

Stayed at the Bridge Lodge for 1 night.
There are two kinds of rooms at this hotel, riverview and the rest. The riverview rooms are more expensive, and (I suspect) more heavily booked.
Basically the non riverview room which I had was quite stuffy and when I opened the window I was greeted with loudly humming air-conditioning (or kitchen) plant. So it was a bit of catch-22. I suspect that not all rooms are in this predicament, especially not the riverview ones. Anyway the room itself was very spacious, nice bed, tiny tv though. Good bathroom with a fullsome shower. Unfortunately I didn't have the opportunity to try the Boathouse restaurant so can't comment on that.
