“Very enjoyable New Year here.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 2, 2013

Booked to stay here with my parents from New Years eve until 2nd January 2013. Prior to our departure from home, we received a phone call updating us on the road situation due to the flooding. This was a very welcomed, very thoughtful telephone call and meant that our journey to Symonds Yat went with the minimum amount of disruption.
On our arrival, we received a very warm , friendly welcome and was assisted with our luggage to our rooms. Having stayed here before, on a previous New Year, we knew roughly what to expect, but we were very pleasantly surprised as the rooms have been decorated and are now updated, very clean and comfortable.
The food throughout our stay was lovely and superbly presented. Drinks from the bar we found to be expensive, however the bottles of wine we chose with our meals, seemed to be more reasonably priced.
The staff worked really hard to ensure everyone was looked after well and I cannot thank them enough for the understanding shown, when dealing with our small party due to one of my parents having some health problems.
I have never stayed here during the summer months, but can imagine it must get very busy, so the service may waiver slightly, but we have no hesitation recommending The Royal Lodge for a warm, friendly New Year break.

We thank our guest for choosing to spend New Year with us hear at The Royal Lodge and for sharing their experience with others.

We are very grateful for the kind comments about the staff and the effort that was made by our small but dedicated team to ensure all guests were able to get to the hotel. Dealing with flood water that was 4 meters above normal levels.

The comments regarding the room updates are greatly appreciated as a long term project we have been very busy re doing our rooms to a tasteful standard but remaining the charm of the ancient Royal Hunting Lodge.

We are very pleased that our guests enjoyed their stay and the levels of food, hospitality and service that we provided.

We look forward to welcoming our valued guests back again in the near future for another enjoyable experience.

Kind Regards
Guest Relations.

My husband and I stayed two nights on a KGB voucher. The hotel was very quiet with few guests but our experience was very good. The building is old but has been updated well and the bedroom was warm and comfortable. Characterful is the best way to describe the hotel!
The food was excellent with a good range of options ..

We could not fault the staff who were attentive and very pleasant indeed. The weather was dreadful but we would definitely visit again and hope to benefit from better walking weather!

Had a 2 night stay at this Hotel with my wife and 2 dogs, what a great place to stay. The rooms were immaculate and the Staff were really friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was to die for all ingredients are locally sorced.
The view from our room (room 5) was outstanding.
It was a great place to bring our dogs, they absolutley loved the walk alongside the river.
They were holding a wedding at the Hotel the Saturday that we left, the staff had done up the conference room and Bar area and this was brilliant, if i wasnt married i would definatley book my wedding here.
Would like to say a great big THANKYOU to Graham and all of his staff.
Would highly recommend and will definatley be back.

Room Tip: We looked at several rooms and it was really hard to choose, as the quality is the same throughout t...

We had a great stay here for 2 nights, and where delighted with the level of service and hospitality shown to us throughout. We where travelling as a family (2+2) with a dog. The location is stunning and we had great breakfasts every morning, and could take some fantastic walks right from the front door. Would definitely return.

Room Tip: Great views from room 1, a corner family room.

We had a great stay here if only for one night. It was a fabulous venue with beautiful surroundings. Our room was fantastic, spacious with a very comfortable four poster bed and a view of the Wye that couldn't be beaten. The bathroom was extraordinarily large with nice hot showers. Given the history of the Lodge one could imagine lords and ladies staying in the room. We ate in the restaurant and could not fault the food. There were plenty of choices for breakfast. Staff were friendly and helpful. An outstanding natural setting that should not be missed.

Our family took over the hotel for a long weekend for a wedding in September. The staff were warm and friendly, couldn't do enough for us all. Beautiful surroundings, fabulous food (both the wedding reception and the meals before and after the special day !).
The rooms were great, pretty sure we had the best room (bar the honeymoon suite!) Very clean and comfortable and very relaxing.
