Whilst visiting friends in the area, we decided to return to the Saracens Head after our previous visit a few years ago, which had met all expectations. Although, we had not booked, after a short wait and a glass of excellent Rioja, our party of four, were shown to a nicely laid clean table in the restaurant. (It is best to book as it gets very busy). The menu was extensive & we chose the scallops & pork belly for starters. The presentation was of a very high standard and both were extremely good. To follow, three of us chose the lobster mornay which was succulent, well presented & delicious. The home made individual pie was plentiful & full of flavour. Only one of us had dessert as the others were too full! The chocolate brownie with ice cream was the best I've tasted. The red & white house wines were good value & of a high standard.

The chef took time to enquire as to our satisfaction of the food & the staff in general, were attentive without being intrusive.

This 16th Century Inn has charming character, food, fine wine, real ales & is located in a tranquil beautiful setting on the River Wye.

Overall, a very pleasant experience. We will certainly visit again when we are in the area.

We've been here several times, usually after canoeing and each time its been great.

I can recommend the home made pie with lovely mash and the fish and chips, my husband enjoyed the burger and the kids were happy with their sausages though they were on the peppery side.

The staff are lovely and there is a great selection of drinks, the wine is good quality. This summer the staff have been particularly on the ball and kept queues down and been extremely courteous and helpful. We thought we'd have to wait ages for food judging by how busy it was on a Saturday lunch time but it only took about 15 - 20 minutes. There was a quite shower but we were able to stay outside as the staff came straight out and pulled the cover over the conservatory bit. Can't wait to go back, a million times better than the Old Court food.

This slight detour was a recommendation from a friend, and wow, it was worth it. We arrived when food was limited to sandwiches and baguettes. these were excellent, if a bit on the pricey side - £6 for a ham salad sandwich. However, it is the location, history and breath-taking views of the Wye Valley that will bring me back, perhaps for a weekend break.

Set right by the river the Saracen's Head Inn could like many places serve below average food and drink and trade on it's location alone. Fortunately it chooses to enhance it's location by providing superb fare instead. Was good to find a pub serving a selection of local ales which were served just right. Also, the burger was clearly homemade and probably one of the best I've ever had. Summer fruit tart was perfectly judged. Clearly an extremely popular place, the amount of staff meant service was quick and efficient and never felt like being treated as just a number. A great find and definitely a place to return to.
