A sizable confit of Welsh lamb to die for - for £10? Yes please. Good sized kids portions? Yes please. Ok so there are cheaper meals out, but I couldn't beat this for value - a price/quality balance that will ensure we go there again as my first choice should we find ourselves in the area.

To the chef: any chance you can move the confit of Welsh lamb to the main menu?! It was from the specials board the day we visited.

I've been here multiple times now. The lunch menu burger is huge, but dinner is just as good. Chilled out camping evening, reserved a table in the bar area so we could keep our dog with us, played battleships and drank and chatted with lots of friendly customers with dogs too before starting our meal; the steak is a good size cooked as required and served with fair chips. Another solid recommendation for anyone, especially dog owners!

We visited Symonds Yat on a lovely April day, and chose the Saracens Head thinking it would be a great meal in a fantastic location. We were right about the location, but the food was nothing special, and very overpriced! £7.50 for a poached egg and five pieces of asparagus is way over the top. That set the tone for the rest of the dishes; poorly presented, overpriced and certainly nothing special. Fantastic location certainly, but this is "gastro pub" pricing for strictly average pub food. For example, fish and chips - strange shaped piece of fish with undercooked batter, soggy chips. A salmon baguette clearly straight from the fridge served with three crisps and a bizarrely bitter salad. Maybe we visited on a bad day, maybe we were unlucky with our choices? Sorry no, the key to excellence in the gastronomic trade is consistency.

Had the most amazing lunch here whilst visiting with friends and our children.
Service was good, staff very friendly and smartly presented, and they even ran the old fashioned boat to take you across the river!
As a kayaker, I will be frequenting this pub more often to sample the fantastic menu and relax by the river after a paddle.
Can't recommend it highly enough and might even try the B&B sometime too.
