I've been a Calke Abbey numerous times, discovering different walks each time. A few of the walks are hard to find but are better than the obvious ones as they are prettiers abd quieter.

The only downfall is the price of parking and in the restaurant.

Calke Abbey is perfect for all groups; couples, families abd keen walkers/dog walkers.

Very special location when its been snowing!

Thank Laurzzzz

Let down by over the top prices in restaurant and small portions , Chicken salad 4 strips of chicken on lettuce and some cucumber nearly £8 !!!!!!!!!!!!! reminded me of prawn salad starters little on top and nothing underneath suggest you take sandwiches as the rest of the menu was more of the same nothing substantial like a London restaurant not for the normal visitor was saved a little by the sale of beef burgers on a barbecue outside £3.50. Apart from that good shop cracking day out very friendly staff good for kids don't miss the ice cream at the walled garden should have been 5 star but for the restaurant

Had a great day out with the family. My 7year old daughter really enjoyed the
I-spy worksheets for the house. The best part of the visit was the volunteers chatting about the house in each room. The were so lovely with my little girl. They are a credit to the national trust. The house was a bit creepy with all the dead animals on display and there was so much clutter and dust but this added to the atmosphere.
We had a picnic in the walled garden and then a great walk around the grounds. We will go back again when we are in the area.

We visit Calke frequently as it is our local National Trust property.

Calke comprises many acres of parkland and woods with lots of walks plus a nature garden, lakes and deer herds. It is an excellent place to visit for walking and has a good cafe.

The kitchen gardens are beautifully looked after and are a inspiration for gardeners. Add to this they sell the produce which is cheap and very tasty.

The house and buildings all have that look of being run down and stuck in a time warp. The Trust has a clear and understandable policy of making things safe and usable but not refurbishing so it can all be seen as it was when it was a working estate. We think this is great and makes it that much more interesting.

There are lots of activities on offer plus children's playground etc. Best ty check the web site for what is on.

We are members of the national trust and love this place. Lots of open space to picnic, walk, play. Went there for a picnic on night and sat next to the deer herd - the kids were thrilled.
