Parador de Cervera de Pisuerga
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed October 24, 2012

The decoration is the usual of the parador, very nice although a bit worn out at places. The ground floor rooms are a delight to spend some relaxing time talking to friends by the chimney, reading a book or playing cards. If there is something this parador should be praised for is the food, both the dinner menu and breakfast. Excellent local produce, everything home made and very friendly service, I would go there again just for the dinner and breakfast.

The room was spacious and decorated to the usual good standard of a Parador. We made sure we booked a room with a view which was worth the extra cost as the view was breathtaking. The restaurant however, was quite disappointing. Staff were slow, and the food was mediocre. We both ordered steak, medium done. We received one well done steak and one rare steak. And they need to sort out their kitchen ventilation. Our bathroom air vent seemed to suck up all of the kitchen smells which was very unpleasant.

On arrival I used the communal toilet and was very disappointed they were shabby, not very clean and in need of decoration. I have stayed at about 10 different Paradors and did not expect this. After further inspection the whole of the hotel looks tired and in need of a lick of paint. However when we got to our room and opened the shutters it made it all worthwhile, the view is stunning and the silence is breath-taking. The area is beautiful and I would love to return with my walking boots. Bedroom is large even with an extra bed in and the beds are very comfortable. Evening meal was very disappointing; two out of the three main meals served were cold. I am nor a fussy eater and often the food in the Paradors is not very good but this meal was awful, it doesn’t help that it expensive 118 euros for three, without wine or deserts. The town is about 5 min drive away and there are several bars and restaurants. Breakfast was better with lots of choice on the buffet but once again the hot dishes were cold. I mean cold not warm. I think that the state needs to either spend some money on this hotel bringing up to the standard of Paradors or they should reduce the price. Such a shame because the location is fabulous.

Room Tip: Pay for a room with a view and eat in the village

Very nice location overlooking the mountains, but not all the rooms have the good views although we had the "bad" views and they are not bad at all.
Big rooms, massive bed and lovely balcony. Floor is a litle bit noisy and you can hear people walking upstairs.
Restaurant is fantastic.
Cervera de Pisuerga town is not worthwhile to visit.

We spent two nights here - the room was large and well appointed, he restaurant and bars were very nice, but it was 90 degrees F and humid, and the hotel has no airconditioning, and no fans in the rooms..

The views were nice, but they needed furniture on the balconies so you could enjoy them. The area doesn't have a lot to offer compared with Cantabria - keep driving to Potes.

Room Tip: The rooms with a view catch a lot more sun in the afternoon!

Spent two nights at this parador. Rooms large and comfortable with sofa, table and chairs. Large bathroom with two washand basins. We paid an extra 20 euros a night for views of the reservoir which, was worth every penny. Stunning views all around from our terrace. We enjoyed walking around the local area for our full day there. It is beautiful. Only the sound of birds singing. We just loved it. Very convenient for drive from Santander too,( 1 1/2 hours). Staff were extremely helpful and welcoming. Food was typical upper class Spanish. A little disappointing but on the whole that is our experience of Spanish food all over. Thoroughly recommend for lovers of the countryside.

Room Tip: Although the extra 20 euros is for fantastic views of the reservoir there is no furniture on the bal...

2 nights here were not enough! The rooms were double the size of regular hotel rooms at least! Both mornings we woke up to sun shining and fog sitting over the wonderful lake. As the fog dispersed, the turquoise blue lake was magnificent. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was great, if not a little expensive as it was the only restaurant. The local town is less than 5 minutes drive and has many restaurants and bars.
I wish that i could go back!

Room Tip: Ask for views of the lake!
