“Another Wonderful Week”
Reviewed July 17, 2013

This was our 11th visit to this excellent hotel.

Excellent staff especially the always smiling Richard in reception and Johanna in the restaurant. Martin the bar Manager is always so welcoming as is Sylvia in reception and in general all staff give excellent customer service.
The rooms are very clean and well furnished and the location is superb for dining out and enjoying the lovely harbour boutiques.

This hotel is not noisy and offers excellent value for money. On two occasions I have left items in the room and these have been posted to me promptly.

We really enjoyed the food and social atmosphere at lunchtimes and a superb clientele all round.

Room Tip: All are peaceful with lovely views

Having read the reviews previously, we decided to book this hotel on those good recommendations. What a disappointment! The view from the hotel is undoubtedly lovely, however, we have just returned and were very disappointed with the poor service in the restaurant, bearing in mind 4* status, together with the chipped/dirty dinner plates, cutlery, etc.
It can't go without mention of an obvious problem with cockroaches, of which we saw 4 on 4 separate occasions!
The staff could only be classified as 'friendly', 'efficient', etc., if you had visited this hotel previously.
This was not a 'cheap' hotel and having stayed in many 4* hotels previously, both in Europe and the UK, this particular hotel, in our opinion, doesn't match up at all, hence, we won't be visiting again.

This was our 3rd visit to the hotel, we went twice in 2012, it just gets better, We requested the same room from our previous visits, and Silvia on reception kindly arranged this for us. The hotel is small, but thats part of its charm, excellent location overlooking the harbour, a changing view all the time, lots of restuarents and bars along there, and in the town, which is a 10 minute walk in different directions, but all heading to the centre. Buffet Breakfast had a good choice of food, and even more of a selection for dinner. The staff are brilliant, all happy and smiling, and its was nice to be remembered by them, they always made time for a chat when they were less busy. Kind regards to Angelas, Gemma, Luis, Johanna, Jesus, Richard and the others who's names we didnt quite get. Martin on the bar was very funny, joking with us all the time, he always knew what we were drinking which was nice. Rooms were clean and the maids were again always cheerful and happy. All in all cannot fault Port Mahon Hotel, and look forward to going back in 2014.

Room Tip: ask for a balcony room, with or without harbour view

This is our second time to this hotel and once again gave us an excellent holiday. Cleanliness, restaurant and pool area/ garden all as expected for a 4* hotel. Very peaceful hotel mainly used by adults. All the staff are friendly and efficient, and we were delighted to be recognised when we arrived after staying at the hotel only once before. Only recommendation for improvement is to have tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Fridge however, in the room a real bonus for keeping things cold.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a garden view

A lovely, relaxed, friendly hotel with a stunning view of Mahon Harbour, in close proximity to both the old town and the harbour front down below. I was there in early June - my second visit - and I was greeted by the hotel manager like a long last friend, and several other members of staff reacted similarly too. The food is good, and eating the tremendous buffet breakfast al fresco overlooking the harbour as the sun rises, is a joy. And just in case you get homesick (!) there's BBC 1, BBC 2, ITV and C4 available in all rooms.

Room Tip: Try and avoid the rooms overlooking the adjacent street. Either go for harbour view (more expensive...

I just got back from a long weekend with a friend of mine (early July) and it was exactly what we wanted. We really didn't want to leave! The weather was glorious, dry heat with the odd coastal breeze.
When we arrived at the Hotel Port Mahon the lady on reception was so friendly and helpful, and spoke fluent English, as did many of the people in Mahon luckily (we tried as much as we could but our Spanish isn't very good). Even though we arrived early in the morning our room was ready for us so we could dump our bags and explore the town for lunch.
It's about 5-10 mins walk into town, depending on which route you take and which part of town you're after, so convenient and each route is very pretty! There is a small but well stocked supermarket 5 minutes walk up the road. The hotel has great views of the harbour, the pool area is lovely and the breakfast was absolutely brilliant (they had local produce every morning including amazing cured ham).
The clientele seemed to be generally professional or retired couples, mostly British and many had obviously been to the hotel before. The guests were friendly and gave us tips on good tapas restaurants. Being two grown up friends on a girlie chilled out break I liked that it wasn't a family hotel (although there were a couple of children). There aren't really any children's facilities so it would be quite boring for little ones.
I would love to go back as the hotel is really peaceful and relaxing and the town is just gorgeous. There were lots of lovely looking day trips you can take, but sadly we just didn't have time, although we managed the glass bottomed boat trip, and if we go back I'd like to do the gin distillery tour! Aww, miss it already...

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the garden but with no balcony (we knew that's what we had booked so weren...

My wife and I stayed in Hotel Port Mahon in a sea view room for 4 nights after spending 3 nights in the sister Hotel Santo Tomas. The hotel has a fantastic location overlooking the Mahon harbour. The balcony was quite small and this, along with the wind, and the fact that the balcony was in shade in the evening time, meant that we did not use it that much.
The hotel is nice, very clean and well maintained however the overall standard was below that of Hotel Santo Tomas. The pool area and sunbeds are pretty poor for a 4* hotel. The breakfast buffet did also get a little repetitive - there was not a constant restocking of food items - especially the fruit. While we could not fault anything we did not feel that it represented value for money and would try elsewhere on our next visit to Menorca.
