Stayed at the Port Mahon, in early october, for my wifes birthday, upgraded to a suite, and the extra cost was worth it, really lovely room. The buffet breakfast was excellent, as was the buffet dinner. The staff are really helpful, altogether a wonderful experience.

My wife and I were very impressed with this hotel from the moment we arrived and were greeted by a delightful, friendly and very helpful receptionist, Sylvia. We were in room 5, an enormous room with equally big balcony (we had only asked for a sea view and balcony, the vast size was a bonus). All the staff were polite and friendly. The food was delicious and well presented. Our room and the public rooms were clean and very comfortable.
The hotel has the most splendid views. It is very well situated for a stroll into Mahon, 10 min by the most direct route or as long as you like if you choose to go down the steps and follow the harbour.
I have no hesitation in recomending this hotel and feel sure that we will return. One couple we met had been returning for 30 years, we fully understand why.
The transfer from the airport was less than quarter of an hour.

We spent a very enjoyable week at the Port Mohon and it was difficult to find any fault bar one. Wonderful staff who were ever helpful and willing to give assistance and advice. As for the guests all appeared very genteal and were very polite. However, it was becoming rather a Country Club by the end of the week. Majority of guests were British with a handfull of Germans and a few Spaniards. No disco, health club or fitness suite. Fantastic ! Our bedroom was a good size and had air-con and we opted for a balcony on booking. If you want a balcony you need to pay extra, if you want a sea view pay more and a suite is a little more. In fact as the price you pay is per person and this can be a lot more. We opted for a room with a balcony and ours was looking over the garden and swimming pool. We were pleased we had with the extra space and the ability to sit out in the sun in private. However, it added 30 euros a night to the bill, about the same as the cost of the buffet dinner.
If you require tea and coffee makings in your room then another extra charge is made. Not moaning, just would like to have them included in the total cost of the room. The room cleaning was very good and it was a delight to return following a day exploring the island to find the bedroom as tidy as on our first arrival. Indeed the whole hotel was spotless and my only negative was my bed which was rock hard and I simply could not get a good nights sleep. Therefore, despite the fantastic service, the wonderful views, the loctaion to town and good relative value, I shall not be returning to this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony room overlooking the pool. At least you will be facing East and have sun most of...

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic week at Hotel Port Mahon and would recommend it as a great hotel for a holiday in Menorca particularly for couples. We were in suite 2 which is a very large room with a massive bed and a very comfortable sofa seating area. The room was kept spotlessly clean and had been recently nicely decorated. From the reception desk to the bar staff (Martin) all of the staff were always helpful and friendly.
The breakfast was buffet style and had everything you would expect with something to suit all tastes.
We were on a bed and breakfast basis but were offered dinner at the hotel for 14euru per night. We like to eat out at restaurants so did not take them up on their offer but this looked excellent value and by the large numbers of people dining was very popular.
We are looking forward to returning to this hotel as it ticks all of the boxes we need for a great holiday.

Room Tip: If you are booking a suite go for suites 1 or 2. The others seem to have their view partially obscur...

Had a very enjoyable week at Port Mahon Hotel 15 to 22/9/12. Position of hotel is excellent with elevated picturesque views over the waterfront and boats/ferries sailing to and from the harbour. Upgraded on arrival to junior suite with sun terrace overlooking the waterfront. Accommodation looked as if it had not long been refurbished. Pleasant restful decor, spacious, with large comfortable twin beds, a large comfortable sofa and long coffee table in sitting area, also large screen TV and small fridge. Quiet, with hardly any sound transmission from other rooms or floor above. Double doors opened onto deep sun terrace enjoying morning sunlight, furnished with chairs and small table. Accommodation was kept spotless with daily change of towels. Plenty of choice and well presented breakfast buffet that could be eaten indoors or on shaded sun terrace overlooking waterfront. Bar snacks, light lunch menu and drinks available during the day. Buffet meal available in the evening, but opted for B&B instead as wanted to try restaurants on the waterfront. Pool and sunbed area on grass was well kept and maintained. Room to move sunbeds about and umbrellas available for shade. All the hotel staff were pleasant, helpful and reception staff were welcoming. Would go back to hotel and recommend to others.

Room Tip: Junior suite 002 terrace has unrestricted views to waterfront and enjoys morning sunlight.

We have been visiting this hotel for 20 years now. Last year we were a little concerned as the Hotel was in need of some TLC, this is no longer the case. The public areas have been completely renovated to a high standard, it is bright and fresh and the patio is now stunning.
I think the number of visits really says it all. The location is perfect, overlooking the harbour with outstanding views. At the bottom of the steps (all 105 of them) the harbour is full of every type of restaurant you could ever want from seafood, Tapas, Italian to Chinese and even Indian. Don't panic about the steps they are building a lift which is due to open next year (but it is Spain so if this is important to you, it may be best to check it has opened before booking).
We had a short spell of bad weather so we ate in the hotel a couple of times. It is a buffet so the normal buffet rules apply - if a lot of people are eating there is a good choice and high turnover so the food is very good, if not many people are eating the choice tends to be less and some items (such as the fresh fish) may dry out. Breakfasts are also buffet style and are excellent (there's even Cava) , many people choose to eat outside on the terrace.
There is such a choice of restaurants in the harbour we tend to eat out most nights , but this can be expensive . In the hotel the normal price or the evening buffet was 16 euro's , but they were doing a deal of 14 Euro's for a minimum of 3 meals.
We tried a new restaurant his year called Jagaro (turn right at the bottom of the steps and it is on the bend towards Es Castell). I will try and put a review up but its sometimes tricky with TP. In any case its worth a visit.
Back to the hotel its the staff that really make it. The majority of them have been there for years and with the number of repeat guests (I estimate about 65-70% were repeat guests when we were there) it gives the whole place a family feel - like a home from home.
6-9th September is Festival. There's a party with horses in the town the first night , and on the last night the port road is closed , the restaurants spill out onto the road and there is live music and fireworks. The travel reps are very bad about letting people know what is happening so if you are staying at this time it is worth asking the hotel what the itinery is.
We had a fabulous time and will be back next year!

This is a very good hotel if you want to be based in Mahon and do not need a beach! We did notice this time (our 3rd visit) that other guests seemed to come from the more middle aged sector-but I guess that is just time passing us by all too quickly and it did mean that there were no children to blight the holiday.Friendly staff, clean and cool rooms (it was very hot weather) and good food.If you don't mind eating later rather than @ 7.30pm when there is a rush, you can have the choice of where you sit and they will be only too happy to make up the table again.Same goes for breakfast. Both are buffet service but don't let this put you off-the food is regularly replenished and kept looking tidy.

Room Tip: Try the suites-these are numbered 1-8. Plenty of room and a terrace rather than a balcony.
