Absolutely beautiful house with stunning views of the surrounding landscapes. The house is spacious and furnished to make guests feel at home. Great kitchen for cooking large meals and a choice of beautiful dining areas to enjoy the food and company. Couldn't fault it!
Beautiful place, great for friends and family! The surrounding area is very nice for walks and activities. Would definitely go back.
My stay at La Hoya was incredible. The cortijo is located on top of a green hill in the sierra de Cádiz. The house itself is tastefully decorated with an original take on local style. The refreshing pool overlooks a beautiful valley and is surrounded by a peaceful garden and a hammock under the shade of a tree. The wonderful traditional patio has various plants and pots and a central fountain. All the rooms are spacious and cool. The kitchen is well furnished and in good condition. It really is the perfect get-away for a group of friends or large family. I would 100% recommend.
As a group of sixteen it can be a challenge to find a place that suits everyone's different tastes but Cortijo La Hoya was a real winner for every single member of our party. From the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere truly special. It's been said before in reviews but the photographs really don't do it justice!
The courtyard is stunning, the bedrooms are beautiful, the kitchen and combined living room is the perfect place to relax away from the heat of the midday sun, the pool is exquisite and to top it all off the al fresco dining areas provided an ideal backdrop to late night dinners and parties.
Christopher, Ines and Paco are completely charming and wonderfully helpful - one day we had booked dinner in a nearby town but couldn't book a taxi, all it took was one phone call to Ines and she quickly sorted us a local driver taxi for that evening. Thank you all so very much and we look forward to another superb stay in the future!
P.S. Paco's Paella really is the best you will ever taste, don't miss it!
We stayed at La Hoya for two weeks a couple of years ago and are still trying to find an excuse to get a group together so we can go again! It is the most wonderful house. You sense the magic as soon as you walk through the huge, fabulous front door and the feeling just gets better and better. We took a group of 12 family members and friends to La Hoya for a special birthday party - a colourful mix from Germany and Britain, from 4 to 75 years old, and they all loved it for different reasons. We arrived and left on different days, and although there were times when there were only 4-6 of us there, the house always felt warm and welcoming. In fact, we had previously researched a number of luxury houses in Gaucin, but this was the only one that really felt like a 'home'. It's difficult to capture the magic in words or to pick out any one thing. It's all fabulous. Maybe the wonderful mix of fabrics and richly coloured rugs, the lovely tiered garden design with delicious herbs, figs, apples, quinces and lemons; the perfectly placed seats, benches and hammocks to catch the sun or shade; the wonderfully equipped kitchen (our hobby cooks were thrilled); the great book collection including tons of guide books and hiking trails; the wall paintings in the children's wing and the pool toys, the funny geckos hiding behind the light fittings on the terrace, the fact that the rooms all have their own 'front doors' opening onto the central courtyard so everyone can come and go without disturbing the others and the views of the sunset across the mountains towards Africa. And of course no review would be complete without mentioning Virginia, Paco and the amazing house manager Ines, who couldn't do enough to help us both before and during our stay. Thanks a million for the opportunity to share such a special house!
This. House. Is. The. Best. That’s the verdict from our group of childhood friends, spouses and (now) children who've been renting vacation properties together for the past 15 years - everywhere from the Catskills to the French Riviera - none compare. First, the view. Wow, the view. There are no words; you just have to see it. The house itself is also beautiful, tastefully decorated without feeling too precious. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard, so everyone has their own private space. The kitchen is well equipped, with two ovens and two dishwashers, which makes clean up so much easier…or you can cook outside on the built-in BBQ. The grounds are extensive, filled with flowers and fruit trees. (Wake up to the scent of jasmine, then take your kids on a nature walk through the orchard to show them where their food comes from.) The pool is large and has a platform where younger kids can play and a shelf along the edge of the deeper part so you can stand all the way around….and, wow, the view. The gourmand groundskeeper, Paco, makes amazing paella and helped source our very own leg of jamon de bellota. The owner, Christopher, is responsive and easy to work with. The house manager, Ines, will go out of her way to answer your questions and get what you need or assist you in any way. It’s a family home, not a 5-star hotel, so there are slight imperfections - the pavement is a little uneven on the terrace, the hob/cook top can be a bit finicky - but these things are easily overlooked. They are what truly make it feel like a home. Also worth mention are the nearby “white villages,” like Gaucin and Jimena de la Frontera, which are charming and have castles where you can climb on 2000 years of history without supervision. A little further afield, cities like Ronda, Cadiz and Gibraltar are also worth a visit (though you may want to bring some Dramamine for the winding roads) or go to Africa for a day. Ferries to Morocco leave every couple of hours from Tarifa. That said, once you’re at the house, you may never want to leave. And when you must, you’ll be counting the days until you can return. I know I am.
We had such a great family holiday in this house a couple of years ago that we decided to return this October. We were not disappointed on our second visit - it is the most wonderful place for people to get together and yet have tons of space to have privacy when one feels like it. The owner of the house,Christopher, really loves his home and you feel that he wants his guests to feel the same way. There is a wonderful library of books, all sorts of videos, good system for playing music. It has the very comfortable feeling of a proper home, not just a place to be rented out. The kitchen is large and everyone can give a helping hand in the cooking (and washing up!) without getting in each others way. I think one of the things we all loved was the choice of places to eat - in the courtyard (great at lunch time), or under a covered trellis or in front of the living room on a covered terrace with a view to die for. The house can sleep 12 adults and there is a sort of gallery 'dormitory' with four beds for children. The bedrooms all have their own entrances off the courtyard. It is a magical place and I cannot recommend it more for any sort of a group or family holiday. It would also be lovely for a small number of people. And of course the pool is fabulous with tons of lawn space around it for the sun beds. The views are stunning.
