“a long walk to the village”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

The club alvor golf is basic the furniture and kitchen utensils are all getting past there best the distance to the village would be a problem for a lot of people and the beach is even further away

Not the best choice if you got it cheap enough maybe?

Otherwise NO

I am an expert on cheap package deals and know how to get a cheap holiday! i also understand if its cheap then chances are its not going to be the best quality hotel. Club Alvor golf wasnt that bad, our apartment was massive and very spacious and the pool was quiet with enough sunloungers. The room was cleaned regularly and the reception staff were lovely, the main problem was i think it had just been or was on the brink of being sold so there was no bar and no shop, eg nowhere to buy food and drink. we went to the hotel next door (which is 4* and lovely) and got lunch and drinks but for essentials like water and crisps (for me and my friends crisps are essential!) we had to walk to the supermarket which was a good 15mins away. the town of Alvor was a 20-25 min walk, and the only time we went to the beach was when we hired a car because it was such a trek! Portugal is beautiful and the weather was lovely and Alvor, although small had a good selection of restaurants and bars and at the weekend the streets filled with locals which was lovely and made it feel a lot less touristy. I'd definatly go to the area again but i prob wouldn't go the Club Alvor Golf because it was just too out of the way.

Well we certainly got what we paid for....these apartments were probably lovely in their day but to give them a 3 star rating is a bit over-optimistic...the building looks run down and tired and although the staff are very friendly welcoming and polite, the reception area could do with a total overhaul as could the rest of the place. Loose tiles greet you and a feeling of emptiness fills the place. The apartment itself was spacious and clean (apart from the occasional visit from the ants in the kitchen area) but the cooking facilities were limited with only one pan and a kettle. On the plus side, the rooms were cleaned and tidied everyday by the maid service but there was a shortage of clean towels which were only replenished once during our stay! The kids were kept busy in the pool which again was adequate but sunbeds/umbrellas and the pool itself could do with some tlc....
Alvor town is a 20 minute walk away and there is a local bus service that runs through the town to the beach (about 1.5euros each trip) and there is a large supermarket within walking distance which has superb fresh meat/fish/seafood counters. The beach is further away again but a free bus service is provided by the nearby Clube Brisamar hotel which runs 3x per day at 10am 1pm and 4pm returning at quarter past the hour to the hotel. I would definately return to Alvor it has everything you expect from Portugal, good food, good weather and a relaxing time, but next time i'll give these apartments a miss, worth a stay tho if u want something cheap....

Room Tip: Expect to get what you paid for it's bearable and quiet and not too far away from decent restaur...

After watching so many reviews on the club alvor golf I was very optimistic as we were taking a party of 18 with 13 junior Golfers for a weeks stay there. We arrived and were greeted by a very pleaseant receptionist who could not help us enough, we went to the rooms to check them out before allowing the juniors in there and we were very surprised how clean they were, they had beds made and towels changed every day we were there, the maids were very friendly, only thing missing is a good bar as they only have a beer pump behind reception which was good anyway, I would definitely go back here again so believe me it's not half as bad as some of these reports say

Just stayed for a week.

Basic apartment hotel ex thompsons I believe. Good sized rooms with a kitchen/living room bathroom etc. Also has a pool - but no bar/music/food. And that makes it quite quiet; good news or what?

Perhaps a bit tired now but at £150 for a week who cares.

10 minutes easy walk to the town centre.
