We have just returned from a weeks stay at Prainha Club. We found all the reception staff extremely helpful - changed our room at our request to one which we preferred, booked taxis, tours and restaurants with no problems whatsoever. Maids also very efficient and friendly. The complex itself could not be beaten, it was beautiful - yes it is a 20 minute walk along the beach to Alvor but this in itself was a joy. Yes the decor in the appartment was a bit tired but we were told that the appartments are to be refurbished over the winter months. We ate twice at Miss Pasta and the meals were both excellent both in quality and value and service superb. We also ate at Big Reds in Alvor after reading reports on Trip Advisor and again we were not disappointed - food was superb and service efficient and very friendly. The on site supermarket may be a little pricey but we certainly weren't going to waste good holiday time searching out cheaper alternatives! We did buy at local markets as well. We would definitely return to Prainha Club again.

The good stuff first - there is a fantastic private beach, the Atlantic Pool is great and there are two excellent restaurants within the development. If you want to eat, swim and sunbathe Prainha is a good choice. Our apartment was also extremely spacious (if a little rough around the edges). However be warned that the staff in reception are extremely unhelpful. They will order you a taxi, but only if you have your 50 cent for the call. Requests for directions or recommendations are treated as a nuisance. Requests for anything more substantial are met with barely veiled hostility. If you actually complain I assume they get out the artillery and gun you down right there in the lobby. I'd recommend going straight to your rep if you want information or assistance. Also on the bad side - our apartment was a little rough around the edges - rusty fridge, no overhead lights in bedroom and the cooker didn't work (not that this bothered us given the quality of the restaurants). There are also security gates that didn't work very well that are a nuisance. I'll keep Prainha in mind for future, but will be trying somewhere else next year. I'll save my loyalties for somewhere a little more welcoming.

We just came back from a week stay at Prainha Village (2 bedroom town houses - Prainha Club is same complex but 1 bedroom apartments). Pool was 50m from the house. Most of the Irish were in one section which was good for the children to make friends. We ate in 2 of the 4 on site restaurants - Miss Pasta (simple pastas and pizzas) and Buzio (more upmarket). Both were excellent and very convenient. Unlike previous reviews, we had no problems with hot water and the townhouse itself was excellently equiped, except the stairs did not have a gate for toddlers, but we improvised. The townhouses also had their own individual small garden, decking and outdoor table and chairs. We took a taxi to the local Lidl (6euro one way) and got a weeks shopping (for breakfast and lunches) for 50 euro. After that we ate out, but could just have easily cooked in the fully equipped kitched.

It takes about 10 mins to walk from one end of the complex to the other and it has 3 big pools, 2 of which have kiddie pools beside them. The saltwater pool on the cliff top is beautiful but too deep for young children. We had no problems with loungers. Taxi to Alvor was about 5-6 euro one way and its a lovely little town with loads of restaurants (The lemon tree, Dom Pipas and Buzio all highly recommended).

Dislikes - only thing I could say was that it was a little on the quiet side at night, but a taxi ride into Alvor most evenings solved that easily. Would definately come back to Prainha again.

We ahve just returned form the most relaxing 10 days and had a great time. With a 2 year old we had a one bedroom ground floor apartment- great with little one as large terrace for sun bathing and for him to play. Apartamnt although little scruffy was large, clean and having read reviews took our own travel kettle so all happy! We enjoyed both Canico and Buzio Restaurants in the complex, food great, service wonderfula nd we thought all in all great value. In Alvor Dom Pipas is great and I enjoyed steak on the stone and wine at onyl 7 euros a bottle! - we walked in , fine 20 mins and well needed after all the food and drink we consumed! Atlantita on the beach just past Buzio is also great. We all had a much needed rest around the great pools- fantastic for small children, the cliff top pool and the fantastic beach. Also went to Zoo Marine great for the kids.

Just back from a week at the Prainha Club. Accommodation was superb so good that I believe we must have been up-graded. We stayed in one of the MA’s (all the apartments in our bit of the complex started with MA ie. MA13 MA01 etc). These are all situated at the Alvor end of the complex. Three bedrooms, own swimming pool (small but great to have), fitted kitchen with all mod cons and most important air conditioning; bit noisy but could not have done without it. As far as the complex itself goes it is very well maintained, three good size swimming pools, one of these is a sea water pool with an amazing location at top of cliff, wonderful views. Three restaurants, Buzio, just refurnished, we found to be the best one. 10 Minutes walk from our apartment and you are on the beach, long and sandy. 6 Euro taxi or 20 minutes walk to Alvor loads of lovely restaurants and picturesque harbour. Three small gripes, reception; arrived 2215 advised to leave cases at reception desk and have meal as hotel restaurant closing but after meal no assistance given to get to our apartment which was 300 to 400 metres down dark road with lots of lefts and rights etc. Eventually got security guy to meet us at our part of complex. Sun beds at Atlantic pool charged (2.50 Euro for day). Complex large and initially hard to navigate around but beautifully landscaped.

I would definitely recommend a stay at Prainha Clube (aparthotel) / Village (apartments/townhouses/villas) for families with both young children and older (mid-teens) as well as couples for rest and relaxation. My wife and I are in our mid-fifties and recently spent a very pleasant week in the Prainha Clube (Aparthotel). The complex is spread over several acres, well-maintained and very picturesque. The aparthotel fronts on to the road between Praia Da Rocha and Alvor, which is about 2km away and, while it is walkable ( a 30-40 minute "stroll" ), the only really practical option in hot weather is by taxi or hire-car, particularly in the evening when setting out, usually in smart-casual dress, to savour the quaint charms and culinary delights of Alvor town.
The accommodation at the Prainha Clube is spacious, clean, comfortable and practical with air-conditioning ,a small kitchenette with two electric-rings, a fridge and microwave. I was a bit disappointed that there was no electric-kettle for the quick cuppa but it is not a major gripe.
The bathroom has a WC, bidet, washhand-basin and full bath with telephone shower. The water pressure was just about OK but it took quite a while of running the taps to get the hot water going. This was quite irritating at times - not enough to file a formal complaint with the reception-desk but then neither my wife nor I are the quibbling type.
The building reaches three upper storeys and all rooms appear to have a southerly aspect with views from the balconies over the pool, "village" apartments/villas and grounds, with the sea visible in the middle-distance mainly from the upper floors. There is a small supermarket on site which is handy but quite expensive ( e.g. a box of 100 Tetleys English Breakfast Tea Bags cost over €7 ! ).There are four restaurants in the complex, one in the hotel and three others spread around the site although one, the Buzio, was being renovated and therefore closed during our stay. One that deserves special mention is the Canico which is carved out of a cliff overlooking a beautiful cove - it is reached by taking an elevator from the cliff-top, down "through" the rock and then a walk through a subterranean passageway leading on to the first level, a bar with DJ, and up a flight of steps to the restaurant. A stunning setting and the food's not bad either ! Well worth at least one visit. It stays open until quite late too.
The hotel staff were pleasant and helpful. The cleaning staff were quite thorough but, understandably, they don't wash the dishes !
The verdict ? We will definitely be back - and soon !

Being nearly 7 months pregnant I was looking forward to a bit of 4 star luxury. We'd booked a 1 bed appartment in Prainha Clube. I was soo disappointed, the decor was very dated, the bedroom had two single beds pushed together, and were rock hard, might as well have been sleeping on the floor, the pillows were like blocks of wood.
Went to have a shower the first night and there was no hot water. Checked with reception and was ask if I'd let the water run... I'd let it run for a number of mins, receptionist said to let it run for longer! At this point I expressed my disappointment with the quality of the appartment, saying it was definitely not 4 star. She insisted old as they were, they were 4 star!??!! Who rates these places??
Back up I went and left the water running... 15mins later the hot water kicked in!!(Seriously!!) and this was what had to be done every time we wanted to shower over the next week. SUCH a waste of water!! The receptionist said this was the norm all over the Algarve, during peak season you'd be lucky to get hot water! (I'm not sure if this is true).
The sound proofing was non-existant, could hear everything going on the the surrounding appartments (including bathrooms!).
Positives for the appartment - it was clean, serviced daily. If we'd booked a cheap package deal, I would be fine with the place being basic but clean, but when a place is advertised as being 4 star, my expectations were far higher and I expect to get what I pay for.
The grounds were very nice, well kept. Lovely pool in front of the hotel, and a few mins walk away was a lovely cliff top pool and the Atlantica Bar/Restaurant - grand for a basic lunch. The lift down to the beach through Caniço restaurant was great.
We discovered that there was a bus stop right outside the complex, buses run every 30mins, into Alvor - €1.40 pp Alternatively you can get a Taxi - €3.90 or walk the 20mins into town.
Favourite restaurant: The Lemon Tree in the town. Was only it's 2nd night open. Food was gorgeous! The steak melts in your mouth, and the deserts are fab! It's pricier than most restaurants, but worth it. We went back here again on our last night and it was as good.
Another good restaurant was Caniço which is in the hotel complex. It was expensive but really good.
One bad restaurant was Restaurante O Alcaide in Alvor. Tuna was overdone and chewy and cod was undercooked some of it raw in places other parts over cooked and like leather.
Overall I really enjoyed Alvor, the people are sooooo friendly, the restaurants generally are v good, paradise for fish lovers, the beaches are lovely and clean. I would definitely return. I would go back to Prainha, but would definitely NOT stay in the Clube hotel appartments, I would book the Prainha Village villa or townhouse, which are s'pose to be far nicer and newer.
If organising your own transfers I would highly recommend www.shuttledirect.com. It was €18:50 pp each way. On arrival at Faro, the (very friendly) driver was waiting for us, we were the only ones on the mini bus, got to Hotel in less than 45mins. On departure the bus was already waiting for us when we got to reception early. We had 2 other pickups in other towns but still got to Faro Airport in just over an hour., and this was in morning rush hour on a Tuesday. Another very friendly (and fast!) driver.
