“Nice basic accommodation but!!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2010

Just back from 10 days at Club Alvorferias. Stayed in 2 bedroomed apartment at the other side of the bridge. Basic accommodation but clean and very spacious. The pool at this side was much nicer than at the reception side - no problem getting beds at any time and also good grass area where you could also sit on. Also pool was much quieter and suitable for younger children. Our apartment was overlooking the villa with the dogs (if you saw the size of them you would call them horses!). Yes they do bark but usually for just a couple of minutes and stop very quickly. Beyond the control of the Apartment owners.
Just a couple of point worth noting - in our apartment the air conditioning was only in the sitting room which I wasn't aware of before we arrived. We would have liked it in bedrooms as well as it was very hot and had to keep the windows closed incase the dogs barked! You have to pay extra if you want a hair dryer and an iron even though it is listed on their website as being available. €1.50 per day each which is alot to pay for a travel hairdryer when I could have bought the same one in the town for €8!
The evening entertainment is very bad - Karaoke is the worst I have seen. Apart from the parrott show there is no evening entertainment for kids apart from the games room which eats Euro coins. If you have children that enjoy shows, etc. in the evening this is not the place for you. We had a great holiday but wouldn't be too sure I would go back there again.

Just arrived back in England from a fornight staying in Alvor at these apartments, we had a great time and met some lovely great people.
But...... The resort is split in two with a main road in between. We stayed over the road in what I can only describe as the old apartments (to access these there is a bridge to cross). These were spacious but very old decor and in need of some TLC and updating. Holidays are supposed to be relaxing, but we slept on very hard beds (we ended up with numerous blankets tp try and help). There is also a private villa very close by, of which had 2 large dogs that barked night and day. I spoke to the rep about these things, but she was no help at all, we felt that she waved these away.
A couple of notes for those looking at this resort. You need to pay deposits for most things like remote controls for TV and Airconditioning, we were not advsed when checking in (24 euros), You can also not get into the apartments until after 2pm, we landed at Faro at 8:30am and was not advised until getting to the resort.
Also we had a 9:45 flight back and the coach picked us up at 4:55am. It seemed that the we were on the coach for 2 hours there and back (if you have children think about travel sickness pills)
These comments should not put you off this resort, but just a couple of things to think about and take note of.
Just to reiterate - great holiday and met loads of lovely people.......

We stayed in these apartments for 18 days. We rented this apartment on a private basis,
getting the information on this website, through the forum.

We were pleasantly surprised, with a modern apartment with all the latest gadgets.

It was spotless clean, with 3 balconies , the main balcony has spectacular views from the beach right through to the mountains. It must have the best view in the complex, and you could sunbathe there rather than going down to the pool.
Fiona, Mark, Sarah, Hayley and Laura.

Our friends stayed on the reception side, there apartment was very big and very clean, if a little dated.

Alvor is a beautiful quaint fishing village, with fantastic restaurants, and very reasonable.. I would advise to book this apartment privately rather than through the hotel where the apartments are a bit dated.

Arrived in Alvor c.midnight 5th Aug,was checked in by very helpful male receptionist, offered tv remote ,safe deposit box and more importantly a remote for air-conditioning!
The apartment was very clean and spacious ,even for a family of 6.It had all that you could desire. One thing that could be worked on is that it is a little dark outside the apartment door, difficult to find slot for keycard entry...this is only a small gripe. We found the Club very self sufficient, well stocked supermecado, has everything that you did not think of taking with you,a bit pricey in some instances but they probably can afford to be as they are located 15 minutes from 'town'!The pool area was very clean and was well used on a daily basis by young and old.Clubs were available for kids and they were not pressured into them if they didnt want to take part.A games area ,outdoor and indoor was also available as well as two tennis courts which were fantastic around the back of the hotel. If you happen to get the apartment across from the bar be wary of some late night 'screaming' in the form of 'karaoke' on a couple of nights of the week.Overall the Club Alvorferias would have to be recommended as it provided a great base for an even greater holiday.Well done to all!

The appartments are very basic and a little dated, but spacious, and have all the facilities you really need. The beds however are quite uncomfortable, we had to put blankets on top of the matresses as you could feel the springs. the appartment was very clean, and was better than I expected, having read some of the other reviews. Maid service was regular.

The resort of Alvor is lovely. I would highly reccommend it. Considering we went in peak season, everywhere was uncrowded. Very atmospheric with a fab beach, which takes around 15 mins to walk to. The pools were great..the one over the bridge much quieter.

There wasnt a single cloud in the sky for the whole 2 weeks!

I'm just back from 2 weeks in Alvor, staying in these apartments. I would highly recommend them for the price. If you are looking for 5* accommodation, then look elsewhere. If you are looking for clean, comfortable, excellent facilities, then book here. The pool was fantastic, although the shallow end was quite deep so not really suitable for my 5 year old who felt she was too old for the 'baby' pool! Our apartment was excellent - spotlessly clean and great facilities. Really big size, loads of clothes space, cbeebies and sky news on the tv. There is one major downside - there is no lift so we had to lift 2 buggies up 3 flights of stairs every evening (even the 'ground' floor is up a flight of stairs). We were on the 'other' side and I would recommend this side for families with children. We visited the reception side one day but the pool was chaotic. The supermarket is a bit further away when you're on the other side, but still preferred where we were. Alvor itself is beautiful. The beach is great too. The receptionists at this complex had no customer service skills whatsoever. In the two weeks, I didn't see them smile once and got monosyllabyl answers to any questions I asked. But don't let them put you off, enjoy your holiday!

Just arrived home from a wonderful holiday in these appartments, i have travelled a lot in Europe and have always found you get what you pay for, and for me the Alvorferias Apts Are Great Value. We booked Privatly owned apt ,opp the supermarket, good clean and modern rooms with washing machine and all mod cons.
Pool area clean and tidy although a little busy, found the staff generally helpfull but as with all workplaces some are better than others.
As for Alvor itself, i think it is hard to find a more picturesque village, full of friendly people, good bars and restaurants. found the Chill out bar very resonable (part of Dunas Apts)€1 per pint Lionel the owner will look after you.
Georgetts is was my Favourite eating house great food at great prices.
Praia de Rocha is well worth a visit. try the Siiting Bull Steakhouse(prepare to wait)
Agualand is the quietest Waterpark get there early and rent a ring (€4) makes for no waiting.
Airport taxis fares are €50 only for 4 people, book all transfers and excurtions with Cathy(cats) beside libary near square.
