Yellow Alvor Garden
Ranked #15 of 24 Hotels in Alvor
Reviewed May 28, 2012

My family visited Yellow Alvor last year with a few reservations following reading reviews, thankfully we followed our hearts and can gladly report we had a fantastic holiday and have booked to go there again this summer. The hotel is very clean and modern, food is varied but you could never go hungry, the staff are excellent and always go the extra mile. The cleaners ensure everything is spotless, and the gardens are a glory. Alvor village is a short walk away but the hotel provides a free bus service which may be a welcome on the way back as it is a steep hill to climb in the glorious heat of Portugal. The village is such a delight and the people there are welcoming to the end.

Room Tip: Great for a quiet relaxing holiday away from the crowds. Ask for a pool facing room, sun or moon doe...

This hotel is located near a golf course, about 2 kms of Alvor village and 3 km from Portimao. If you want peace and quiet I would recommend this hotel in Winter months. The garden is great and the outdoor and inside pools are OK. The rooms are small and bit old but have balconys. Ours, with a garden/pool view, was a well located one. The hotel staff was very attentive and friendly. We stay for 4 nights, with breakfast and one meal per day included. As meal we chose the buffet dinner with nothing in common with good Portuguese food ... so was only acceptable. The space needs conservation works in some areas but even so is a nice hotel with a relaxed atmosphere.

I stayed at the Yellow Alvor in April 2011. I booked it short-notice (2days before) and was planning on just chilling out and taking a few days off with my partner. The hotel was *perfect* for this as there were only about another 6-8 couples staying at the hotel, most days we pretty much had the pool to ourselves, at the most there was another 2-4 people in and around the pool.

The rooms was very basic (we expected this and it was not a concern as we were out most of the time) and we had a pool view.

The hotel itself is a short walk into town (around 10-15minutes if I remember correctly), it is downhill on the way in, and uphill on the way back. Its short enough to be pleasant and you go passed a few small bars that you may otherwise have missed.

Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Yellow Alvor, and the Alvor village itself is great, superb restaurants and a very good atmosphere. Will definitely return!

Room Tip: Select a pool view, I am pretty sure the other side of the hotel faces out onto a car-park/tennis co...

This hotel was great, we couldn't believe how lovely it was when we first arrived. The staff were helpful and friendly, and it was very easy to book excursions from the front desk. The rooms were spacious, cool and had all the basics needed on holiday. At breakfast there was plenty to choose from and lots of it, and the dining area was great, even with the option to sit outside in the sunshine. We loved the pool area and gardens, one of the best parts of the hotel, and a great place to relax, with plenty of sunbeds to choose from. During the evenings we walked into town to have dinner, a nice stroll on a Summer's evening that takes about 10-15 minutes. We could have ordered a taxi from reception but we never needed one. Also, the hotel offered free shuttle buses throughout the day to the beach and town, this is great and very handy. Before going, I was a bit apprehensive about the hotel after reading negative reviews on here, especially as it was the first time my boyfriend and I were going away together, I wanted everything to be perfect. It turned out to be the best holiday both of us had ever been on!!!! We already want to return to the Yellow Alvor.

We've just returned from a trip into Portugal from Spain & had initially dismissed this hotel because of the poor reviews but we had to change hotel at short notice because of a problem with the first hotel, (which, incidentally, had received excellent reviews) and we went in to the tourist information office in Portimao where the lady was very helpful and suggested here. We were not disappointed. We only stayed 2 nights but found the staff very helpful and courteous, the hotel clean and beds very comfortable. There a 2 pools, indoor & out and a Jacuzzi, gym, steam room & sauna. The price was excellent, great value for money. Our only complaint was finding the hotel, we were driving there, and it is actually located within the Clube Brisamar complex, but without any signs at all. None in the village of Alvor, at the junction off the main road nor at the entrance of the complex. We spent one and a half hours trying to find it, passing the entrance to the Clube several times, even the phone number in the leaflet from the tourist office had a number missing so I was being told number did not exist, very frustating. But it was worth the hassle, we would definitely recommend it.

This hotel was given to us at very short notice, after reading some of the reveiws on here i thought we had been given a bad place to stay. How wrong was I, the hotel is a fantastic place to stay, the staff are friendly and the rooms are comfortable and cleaned everyday, the breakfast was the same most days but it was all fresh and I could not fault how much was on offer. The pools and surounding grounds were very clean and well looked after. Don't think twice about staying here, you will not be disapointed. Oh and the cocktails are fantastic.

Have just returned from our 7th stay at this hotel and , despite all the negative reviews , have had a brilliant holiday . Those who give the negative reviews about those who work there , should take the time to actually take notice of the staff and treat them as they would like to be treated if they were doing the same job , a smile and noticing someones name goes a long way . Also, most of the staff are employed on short contracts (3-6 months) , so they often don't know how long they will have a job , would you be always happy & smiley?
Having said all that , there are issues at this hotel that need addressing . The decoration in the rooms is looking tired and the mattresses are harder than we Brits are used to . However , ask at reception , and if available , they will provide a softer (sunbed style) mattress for your bed . These are a plastic covered item and can get a little warm , but that is worth the extra comfort (Tip :- place it under the bedclothes and sleep on a towel on top of the bed), If you are there for a 10-14 day stay , ask for a Moon Room , as they have more storage space than the Sun Rooms , and try to get one with a garden and pool view . For those who complain about the offerings for breakfast , yes it's much the same choice each day , but with the items available a varied breakfast is possible and we noted that the cooked food was hotter this year than previously . Remember that you are usually paying around 2 - 3* prices at this hotel , so in general it does offer reasonable value for money .
All in all a great stay , thanks to Artur on reception , Joao in the dining room and on the bar and , of course , Jose Manuel , the vegetable sculptor and mixologist in the bar .

Room Tip: Ask for Moon Room with garden view
