Stayed here for one week in October at the end of the season so found this holiday a bargain!
The hotel is exactly as described so I will not go into any more details apart to say that the accommodation was great.
The staff are to be congratulated from the people behind the scenes (domestic and catering), to the reception, bar staff and dining room staff. All very pleasant and helpful - and of course congratulations to the chefs who did an excellent job.
The food was excellent, well prepared and presented, with plenty of choice. The salads and sweets were particularly appetising and it was a change to have lots of fresh fruit available.
Of course, you can never please everyone, but if you expect everything to be what you have at home, then why bother going abroad?
There were people of all ages there as it was October. I imagine the summer months will be very busy with families but would think this would be an ideal family hotel.
A free bus is provided to the beach which was much appreciated, perhaps it could have an extra stop along the way so people could walk to the town or harbour?
Unfortunately there was only one restaurant open at this time of year, which meant there was no adult only restaurant in the evening which may not suit everyone.
We managed to have a great holiday despite there being no iron, ironing board or kettle in the room (a disappointment to some people in previous reviews!!!)

Room Tip: We were lucky to be given a room on the first floor, poolside, not directly above the pool but in a...

Arrived Alvor Baia Apartamentos just after 11.00 am following a 6.00 am flight from Glasgow Airport. Faro Airport not the best organised I have travelled through but we made it! An hour transfer on a comfortable coach along some on the best roads I have encountered on my travels.

Check in was painless despite numbers arriving on same bus and our room was immediately available for us, despite normal, 4.00 pm check-in time! Room excellent, loads of space with separate lounge/kitchen area and extensive bedroom. Kitchen area has sink, cooking hob, refrigerator and adequate cupboard space with pot, crockery, cutlery & even a tea towel!

Only slight concern was the large cracks in the kitchen wall and the bathroom tiles. Maybe just settlement in Room 24 on level 0.

Food has been excellent. Great range of choices for all courses at breakfast, lunch and dinner. By far the best selection of freshly cooked fish dishes I have come across: from the local specialty, sardines to salmon; cuttlefish; cod and the oddly-named scabbard fish! Don't look it up on Google if you fancy trying it! Although we also had milk shark, perch and ray during the first week. You can tell I don't eat meat or poultry? But there's more than enough variety to suit all tastes and everything looks so fresh with regular top ups and an extensive range of salads, vegetables, desserts and fruits.

The food labelling leaves a lot to be desired though! I overheard some poor woman questioning a member of staff about a dish which was labelled vegetarian. It was basically some croquettes on one side with some mix of braised vegetables on the other, with slashed frankfurters in the middle. "Yes, vegetarian" he assured her. But I wasn't convinced!

Beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic are self service and include beer and several different wines, fruit juices and sodas, hot drinks and water on tap. Unfortunately the tea & coffee machine is only available at breakfast, Not quite sure why. No table service but places are cleared promptly and efficiently, no grabbing of plates as some previously reported!

The noise level in the dining room is down to one thing and one thing only; the behaviour of the people eating there! If folk would lift chairs rather than scrape them across floors and converse at a reasonable volume instead of shouting, it would be a more pleasant environment for all.

I do think, however a separate children's area or dining time might cut out some of the screeching. But then so would consideration for fellow guests and responsible parenting!

We arrived on 26th September, so things has started to slow down. Only one restaurant was open and there was no fighting for sun beds. It did appear to be busier at weekends with family groups from Spain and Italy raising the noise levels!

So if you didn't enjoy your trip to this hotel, maybe you should ask why you go on holiday at all? Nothing will ever be100% perfect, so chill out and make the most of it.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for sharing your feedback on Trip Advisor following your recent stay at Hotel Alvor Baia. We value each and every Guests review and appreciate the time you take out to write them.

We have to thank you for the extensive food & Beverage reporting with all the options available in a daily basis.
Normally, with the main season we have a dedicated children eating area. Nowadays with only one restaurant open it does not exist.
Also, we will take care of those cracks on the kitchen wall - thanks for the insight.

We will be expecting your return any time soon,

Kind regards,

Pros - Nice modern hotel, rooms fantastic, food good for AI, the pool is large so there is never a shortage of sunbeds! Great location with regard to Alvor... Which is a lovely resort , worth eating out in town a couple of times, and a few nice bars to frequent as well

Cons - Restaurant setting felt cafe like, upstairs bar seating too small

Check in was very fast and efficient and cases delivered to rooms. We were delighted with our room (342) and the space, extremely comfortable, two flat screen tv's, fridge an extremely comfortable bed and large leather couch. The bathroom was also spacious with a fab shower. We found all of the staff excellent in particular the bar people who were extremely efficient and pleasant (apart from one barman who had a very bad attitude) Queueing for a drink was no problem as it was very quick. We never had to queue at mealtimes. The food was super with a huge range on offer, the week we were there there were 18 different types of fish and shellfish which were all delicious. The salads on offer were also many and varied and the meat selection was very good.Very nice selection of wine on tap (self service) also water and beer readily available. We need to mention the dining room was noisy and canteen like and it would have been nice to have table cloths at dinner this said we still really enjoyed our meals. The entertainment was dire the only good thing was the folk dancers. The swimming pool and grounds were immaculate and impressive as was the hotel itself. We were a little disappointed at the hotels location as it was up and down hill to get to the town and as some of our party have trouble walking this was a problem.Due to the time of year we went it was quiet but I would imagine at the hight of the season it would be a bit chaotic. We had a super holiday just a shame we had no sun but plenty rain. Ours transfers each way were great (Thomsons) no stops just straight to hotel in 50mins and no hassle. This is by far the best all inclusive hotel we have been to.

We stayed here 3rd to 10th October. A very modern hotel, with the minimum of accessories,

Check in was easy, allocated room 229. It was a standard pool view room. A kitchen and dining area, lounge and a separate bedroom. The bathroom consisted of a large bath with a power shower over. There was also a bidet. The towels were changed every day.

Air conditioning was quiet and effective.

The all inclusive meals were of a good standard, varied, and well cooked.

Last but not least, the staff. They are all a credit to the hotel. Friendly, polite and helpful.

Management and staff should be extremely proud of the way this hotel is run, and we look forward to seeing you all next year.

Room Tip: Pool view rooms are good for balcony sun

Well its 8.00pm on Sunday the sixth of october in room 130
We have been here since Thursday I must say its is a nice hotel when you first walk in its like walking into an airport your bags are taken off you until you check in and if you like they are taken up to your room,
The room is great not a thing wrong very very modern this room has a small kitchen micro, two hob cooker, fridge, so you can self catter the bathroom has a bday the shower is excellent my one gripe with this room is the bed its king size and very clean but its hard I am sleeping on the pull out settee tonight,
Every room seams to have a balcony and they are big but if you can ask for a pool side room .
Restaurant is big in peak season it must be like a football match the staff are good they clear your table soon as you finish a course and they are very polite the food is good and you have a very big choice every thing from the cutlery plates tables and floores are spotles clean.
Poolside is massive its the biggest pool I have ever see and the pool area has hundreds of sun beds and tabels.
The hotel has bus to take you to the beach it runs about every half hour the beach is great but the water is cold.
Pool side bar the staff that work at the bar are great they never stop very polite and helpful its nice to ask for a pint and if you are sitting out side you get a pint size plastic glass which is good for safety but if you are sitting inside you get glass glass.
This is to the Manager if he reads this I was very surprised to find you do not have a gym in such a very modern hotel it would be a great asset to the Alvor baia just like your staff are.
Thaks to all for a great stay.

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for posting your review. We are very happy with how much you have enjoyed your holidays among st us. It seems to us that you have liked it all, expect for its location and the fact that we do not have a Gym in the premises.

Indeed the gym is a structural issue and we do not get many bad feedback for not having this service available to our guest in the Unit. Although, we do have 2 gym in other two units we own in Praia da Rocha, being the Hotel Jupiter one & the Club Amarilis one.
We do apologize for this fact.
Nevertheless, we do expect so have you and your family visiting us again next season.
