We have just returned from a lovely week in Alvor Baia. We were very impressed by the hotel itself. The rooms are amazing with separate kitchen area and huge balconies. We found that it was fantastic value for money. The hotel was exceptionally clean and well kept - the maids do a great job. The food was excellent (especially the lunches) and we found the restaurant staff to be very friendly and professional. The drinks were fine although all inclusive finishes at 11pm which seemed early. The soft drinks tasted a bit cheap and alcohol selection wasn't great although we enjoyed the cocktail of the day! Bar staff were lovely and very helpful. The pool is ginormous, it was freezing when we first arrived but by the end it seemed a bit warmer and was well worth braving the temperature for a dip. We had no problem getting sunbeds. The lifeguard Hugo was great. He was very professional and took his lifeguarding seriously. He has a very large pool to monitor and we found it strange that he was also in charge of looking after sunbeds when he should be able to solely focus on the pool, this may be because it was out of season and not so busy but he will need help in the Summer! We were very disappointed with the entertainment team. We found them to be incredibly rude and not particularly enthusiastic with the activities, speaking only to certain guests. The staff should be able to speak a few languages as we felt this was a barrier. The hotel advertise a number of day time activities, we found that very few of them actually happen - the team seemed only interested in the dancing activities. They really should offer more activities for adults and children such as football, volleyball, outdoor table tennis etc and the entertainment staff should monitor these games rather than wandering off once the games are set up.The evening shows were terrible, we watched the cabaret one night and it was the entertainment team doing some dancing on a make-shift stage. This lasted for half an hour and that was it. The piano man in the bar area is fine although played the same music every night which got a bit monotonous after a couple of days. Alvor itself is a pretty fishing village with lovely bars and restaurants. The beaches are beautiful and well worth a visit. The hotel's train to the beach is a lovely idea although we really enjoyed the walk. We got a really good deal for the holiday and as such were not so worried about the lack of entertainment however we would have been annoyed had we paid more. For such an impressive and modern hotel, they should address the entertainment problems as the daytime and evening entertainment really lets the hotel down. Everything else is fantastic and the hotel could easily be a 5 star if this was improved. Overall we had a lovely holiday and we would thoroughly recommend the Alvor Baia.
