“Great place to stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 1, 2014

This was our second stay at the Luna Alvor Bay. It is in a great location very close to the beach and a 10 minute stroll into the centre of Alvor. The hotel is very clean, the staff very nice and friendly. The rooms are an excellent size with all cooking facilities available should you require them There is a good choice of food for breakfast both hot and cold buffet. The only complaint we had was waiting 45 minutes for a baguette for lunch. We were the only two people in the dining room!! It won't stop us from booking again as we really like this place. Sun loungers are at a premium so you have to be up early to secure one. All in all a great place for a holiday.

Room Tip: Side room facing harbour. Fantastic sunsets and views over Alvor.

Bargain holiday. Hotel is so clean, relaxing and pleasant to be in. Room
We arrived at 2pm and the lovely girls at reception let us check in 2 hours early which I am very grateful for, being 6 months pregnant! We got room 404 which is a resort facing studio, the cheapest room option, and it was fabulous. Every utensil you could require in the kitchen (none for us, we eat out on holiday!), great balcony, huge bed, lots of storage space and my favourite bit - a bath in the modern bathroom. Water was always hot and I had a bubble bath every night after a hard day on the beach.
Food
Breakfast was good, option of cooked or continental between 8 and 10. Always topped up, lots of space for everyone. Lunch food was good and faintly priced too, we did not eat dinner in the hotel.
Staff
Everyone was so great and helpful, our favourite staff member was mako who runs the bar in the evening, he was so friendly and chatty and makes the best drinks! He needs a pat on the back from management as he really was great.
Hotel
Wifi - only works downstairs, not in your room, no problem as lounge is lovely to sit in.
Sunbeds - ridiculous old school crowd who would put their towel out at 4am and expect it still to be there when they appeared again at 4pm, we removed towels and used the sunbeds anyway. Shocking behaviour as left lots of people with nowhere to lie in the sun. Perhaps a sign could be put up to stop this?
Pool - freezing and tiny, managed in it once, be nicer later in the season.
Cleaners - our room was never cleaned before 4pm, We don't care as we keep our room clean anyway, was nice to get fresh towels each day.

The only reason I did not give this hotel 5 stars was the noise from the other rooms beside and above us, the walls are so thin that we didn't sleep unless everyone else was sleeping which was normally after 1am and awake by 7am.

Alvor itself is lovely and quiet and has wonderful food, the town is a 10 min walk away and the beach less than 5 mins.

Just returned back home from our 2nd stay at the Luna Alvor Bay. This hotel is perfect. It might not be a large complex like others, but that's the reason we stay here. It's simple no-nonsense.

The building work next door really is not a concern. It's good that finally construction has started on what was a part-built building that has been on that site for many years, albeit knocked down and restarted.

The noise really isn't that bad. There was drilling rig making deep bore holes for the foundations, but suspect this will be finished soon. Also, not sure about anyone else, but I certainly don't want to sit on my balcony all day when there are plenty of other better places to be whilst in the Algarve.

If you like a beach holiday, then this is the perfect location as about 100m from the hotel is the huge beach of Alvor and is perfectly located to either walk to the coves (turn left and keep going) or a nice long walk to the right.

The staff are very friendly which as part of the Luna group are always going to be highly trained. The WiFi is a bit hit and miss, just be aware that there are 2 Luna Alvor Bay WiFi networks, password you get will not work on both.

The other great feature of this hotel is the short walk into the village (not town) centre. Short enough not to be a drag and far enough to be outside of the village.

We love Alvor (and this hotel) so much that we have already booked for June 2015.

The sea view is great, however, I prefer the Side Sea View where you not only get a view out towards Lagos, but you also get the sunset over Alvor and the estuary.

We were on the top floor this time, floor 12, which is actually the 13th floor as there is a floor 00, we didn't get any issue with the Lifts? The longest we waited for a lift was about 2 mins. I think that sometimes, the cleaners might be using the lifts between floors which might be adding to some of the times other are seeing, however, we didn't experience any issues.

Room Tip: I prefer the side view which not only has a seaview, but you also get the view over Alvor and the es...

Just back from luna bay alvor .Anyone going there soon might want to bring some earplugs, especially if you have a sea view,There's building a hotel right in front of the luna bay.Started work at 8oclock in the morning ,the only time they didn't work was at the weekend.Couldnt leave the patio door open because of the noise,Didn't know about it before we went, would have taken a different hotel.Pity, might have given the luna good mark, but very disappointed

The position of this hotel is great, right next to a fabulous beach and a lovely town. WiFi on the 11th floor was a bit hitty missy. We booked a sea view room but unfortunately the view was also of a new building site. Work generally started at 8am but the noise didn't spoil our time there. The rooms were spacious and very clean. Self catering facilities were excellent. The beds were very comfortable for a seaside European hotel. Only annoying thing was the early morning sun bed reservers, especially when didn't actually turn up to lie on the lounger until midday.

BUYER BEWARE
We were in Alvor for a family wedding and the 50+ guests were staying/spread across the 4 hotels that are on Alvor beach. So we booked 4 nights at this hotel, knowing other guests & family were also staying at Luna Bay. So there were two reasons for booking this hotel 1) because of family, 2) because it was on the beach. We made this booking in January, 6 months before the wedding because we wanted to guarantee the hotel and didn't want to be located away from the wedding party.
When we arrived at the hotel to check in, we were told that the hotel had overbooked and we were to be moved to the sister hotel: Luna Bay Village, about 3 miles from everyone else in the wedding party and 3 miles from the beach.
The receptionist gave no valid reason for the overbooking and the only compensation we were given was a free taxi to the sister hotel.
We were incredibly disappointed that we were to stay somewhere else, this action from the hotel really did ruin the holiday.
In my opinion, I think the hotel bumped us because we didn't book a full week at the hotel, ie 7 or 14 days. This should not be a reason for a hotel to move guests without giving them any notice or any opportunity to book into a different hotel within the same location. The hotel should have emailed me and given me the option of a refund so I could have booked another beach hotel.

Room Tip: We had booked a room with ocean views

Just spent 12 nights here, fantastic room, very clean and modern. Great location, 2 min walk to beach, 5 min walk to town. You can hear the building work in the distance but not intrusive. Maid service everyday and free wifi in our room and round the pool. Negatives- not enough sunbeds and often taken but no one on them, breakfast was poor quality.
