just spent 9 nights at the luna alvor bay.ideal for self catering, rooms very clean and modern with everything you need.only downside was pool and outside area.just not big enough to cater for guests.but dont let that put you off.we just went to the hotel next door ( dom juao ) and beach...bliss. having been to alvor for a many number of years,i have seen a big increase in eating and drinking out....it is just so expensive. £8-£9 for a diet coke and vodka/lemonade.glasses are smaller and measures less.and thats almost everywhere.you will spend £100 -£120 in one night quite easily..i felt as though i was being mugged everytime i bought a drink..go to the chill out lounge at the dunas apartments (5 minutes walk from centre ) you will spend less than half.....apart from the chillout bar,do not drink in town.A few years ago, benidorm started to put the prices up quite a bit.when they did, people stopped going and they lost a lot of tourism..alvor is heading in the same way, which would be a shame because its a lovely place.if you want to know anything about alvor and where to eat and drink just email me.i will be more than happy to answer your questions and hopefully save you money thus also not putting you off going back to alvor..just one more tip....... book the hotel direct...it is only £32 a night for a room £35-£40 for a sea view. ALSO.....they are doing building work at the back of the hotel at the moment, which looks as though it is going to continue for some time...check with hotel direct...

Room Tip: unless you really want a sea view,i wouldnt bother...save your money, you only sleep there, you see th...

Reception were very helpful in granting our request for a high floor - we had stunning views!
The apartrment was lovely and very well - equiped.
The main problem we had, however, was noise.
We too were disturbed by the ongoing maintenance work to the outside of the building.
In addition, you can hear so much noise from inside the building - bumps and bangs, furniture being scraped across tiled floors.
Due to the fact that some people get up very early and others come back late we found it difficult to get enough sleep.
Also, the extraction system was noisy and filled our room with cooking smells rather than removing them from the building!
After reading previous reviews we brought extra coathangers with us, but found we did not need them as there were plenty in the wardrobe.
We thought the location of the hotel was good - close to the beach and walking distance to the town.
However, due to the noise issues we would not return again.

This was our first and last stay in this hotel. The staff in reception were excellent. The lack of sunbeds (there's only 18) is criminal. The lack of wifi in a hotel room these days is unacceptable, it was available only in reception. Hot water was not there on a consistent basis for showering, toilet-roll was not replaced consistently, and we arrived to a dirty oven. I actually think the Maids in this hotel must be the laziest in Europe. It's a five-minute walk to the beach and ten minutes to the centre of Alvor itself, that's all this hotel has going for it, and even that ten minute walk itself is treacherous, especially at night. Luna Alvor Bay, get your act together.

Just back from staying in the Luna Alvor Bay Hotel. The view is absolutely fantastic from this high rise apartments, we had a view of the sea to one side, the harbour and the town on the other side, we were situated over the front entrance. The studio apartment is very spacious and bright with everything you could ask for in the way of self catering if you wanted to cook. Very clean apartments and the breakfast was good; cereals, fresh fruit, yogurt, hot and cold breakfast. The hot breakfast consisted of fried eggs, sausages and beans one morning; and bacon, scrambled eggs and the beans the other morning, they were very nice and also different kinds of breads. The sunbeds are scarce, but we loved the gorgeous beach and beautiful Alvor town is only ten minutes away. The outside of this hotel is not very impressive, just a large skyscraper surrounded by waste land, but the inside is really lovely.

I have read some valid complaints. Too few sunbeds, small pool, too few coathangers (put right by reception) and small compact lifts. However the room was immaculate, regularly cleaned. Location so close to the beach was great and all in all excellent value for money. Room would be very snug for more than two people. We would consider returning. Alvor is a lovely place.

Just returned yesterday from This hotel and i really enjoyed my stay there, was lovely and clean and newly decorated and in good condition too, ideal location to Town of Alvor and Supermarkets 5 mins away and so is beach(if you throw a stone, its that close :-) ), Staff were helpful and polite and so were the cleaners, studios are well equiped, not very big studios but i believe corner rooms are larger but a decent size nevertheless, my tips are pay extra for pool or sun on your balcony as its 1, very chilly on your balcony otherwise and 2, a little noisy with the wind blowing around the hotel, also bring hangers as theres only 4 in the wardrobe and there isnt any drawers or Shelves so storage for two or more is an issue. Theres about 20 sunbeds near the pool( a Little Small) but most people tend to go to the beach so there was ample when i was there. I really enjoyed my break apart from these little things,

Room Tip: ask for Sunny Balcony so pay extra, bring Hangers for your clothes and ask for higher floor as a lit...

We have stayed at this hotel previously albeit in September. We really enjoyed our stay then however this time was a little different.

On both occasions the room was furnished and cleaned to an excellent standard. However on this occasion we had not apparently paid a premium for a better room (right hand/entrance side), and so were on the left hand side. This meant that rather than have the sun in the evening, we had the sun in the morning, however we decided we were happy enough with that.

The first time I decided to cook I found the extractor wouldnt work. When I enquired about it the girl on reception said it was a central function and all extractors were activated at certain times of the day, when people were cooking. I challenged this, as this was not the case previously and sounded totally implausible. I challenged this, asking to know what times, but was getting nowhere fast.

We quickly realised that there were still only 20 sunbeds, which for a hotel this size is completely inadequate. To make matters worse 2 were partially broken which reduced it to 18.This meant that folks were up at the crack of dawn, comandeering beds with towels, which is a pet hate, but on some level understandable as it was not forbidden. Thankfully the beach is close by, however not everyone likes to go to the beach.

We decided to make best use of the balcony however there was work ongoing (plastering and painting). On more than a couple of occasions that rendered our balcony unuseable as they were working on the next apartment, chiselling off the loose plaster, so noise and dust. Not least to mention cat calls on one occasion, which meant we ended up sitting indoors. The workmen were suspended from the top of the building on ropes, like abseiling, and one day whilsy having a drink on the balcony, the man winched himself down in silence and was practically nose to nose with me without me knowing it until I turned around and saw him. It gave me a start.

We decided despite being our preferred option the last few years, we wont return. Clearly as the property begins to age, things that are broken are not being fixed. There were some noisy neighbours and the soundproofing is almost non existent (I could hear the man next door snoring !), so doesnt always make for a peacful nights sleep. And the sunbed situation, when they could easily accommodate 60 beds, is a joke.

Room Tip: pay the premium, even though its not strictly sea view.
