We have stayed in Alvor previously in 4* hotels and found the Luna Alvor Bay in most aspects equally as good. The staff on Reception and in the Bar were very helpful and we found most of the other guests very friendly. We were on the 9th floor with a very good frontal sea view. The rooms were cleaned daily and the apartment was spacious and had everything we needed. Even though we didn't use the pool - we went to the beach most days which is only a short distance away - we noticed that the few sunbeds that were there had towels on them at 6.30 in the mornings. We didn't take advantage of the breakfast in the hotel as we made the short walk into Alvor on several occasions and had breakfast there. We tried about 9 restaurants and didn't have one bad meal. Our favourites were Esperito Fino and Georget's, although Vagabondo and the Dream Team were enjoyable. We found the weather fantastic during the day, but it went slightly cooler in the evenings, which suited us perfectly. As stated in other reviews a few more coat hangers would have been handy and more sunbeds would have been ideal, as in the peak periods there would probably be issues, although this is not a complaint just a suggestion. Alvor is a quiet town that hasn't become commercialised and although it is ideally suited to us I would think that it may be a little too quiet for the younger generation. We can't wait for our next visit to Alvor and hopefully the Luna Alvor Bay.

Booked the holiday for my partner and a friend, we were sold on the 'professional pictures' of the hotel, yes they do the hotel justice, The downside was they do not show the other 4 grim unkept high rise blocks next door (1 building was repainted when we were leaving), and the other thing was the swimming pool, clean and modern just our thing, but when we saw it there could not of been more than a dozen sun loungers and the pool was fenced off, and each morning it was like the Germans had got to the loungers 1st by putting their towels on the loungers.
The positive was the standard of the rooms, nice clean lines and modern feel, cutlery and crockery spotless, the rooms were serviced daily. The beach which is only minutes away from the hotel was amazing, turn left when you get there and get 2 sun beds and palm parasol for 10 euros and there are also beach restaurants which do not sting you, so lying by the pool wasn't missing as the beach was lovely and clean.
Best supermarket to shop is Pingo Doce, follow the signs for Camp Site, we walked there and took about 20 mins and a taxi back for 3 euros, did go into Alisuper to buy some essentials (wine) but it was like it was closing down and the prices!
We will be going back next year as the rooms and the beach were superb.

Fab Hotel, stayed here late september 2011, great location, 2 mins from the beach and a 5 min walk to Alvor Town.
rooms exactly as shown on website. Which is a rarity these days! The rooms were well equipped with dishwasher, espresso machine, microwave and pots pans, crockery and cutlery...fab if you were staying a while and wanted to self cater. The only thing missing was perhaps a pack with dishwasher tabs, and cleaning materials. We were there for 4 days so didn't want to to buy full sized items as quite costly however would have paid for a scaled down kit if they had one.
The beds were 2 single beds pushed together that was the only downside. Nice size balcony too, big enough for a lounger if one there. REcepption staff friendly and helpful giving us restaurant ideas locally. Free wifi in lobby and outside lift bizarrely but hey we were on holiday. Tv with UK stations so you could watch a late night movie if you chose to.
Small pool area with a few sunbeds, but we spent our days out so it didnt matter at all, also in peak season this would probably be a problem.
All in all I would recommend and even return to this hotel.

I was really impressed with this accommodation. I booked land view and was given partial sea view, which was a pleasant surprise. The room was very spacious, and everything we needed during our stay was supplied, including toiletries. The room was serviced daily and got fresh towels daily. I couldn't praise the staff highly enough. We availed of breakfast on two occasions at a cost of 5.00 euro @ person. I loved it, they have lovely fresh fruit, and muesli, which you don't get in any other restaurants. The beach was within walking distance, and the shops, restaurants etc were within walking distance. We did hire out a car, and visited a different village each evening. Loved Alvor, and cant wait to go back!!

After a recent stay at the Luna Alvor Bay I felt compelled to write a review to highlight what a great little find this was.

Our expectation of the hotel prior to our arrival wasn't the greatest based on the cheap price we paid and often pictures aren't an accurate reflection of the hotel but we were pleasently surprised.

The rooms were ultra modern, very well equipped, kept extremely clean and were very spacious.

The hotel staff were helpful in providing information about bus times and taxis to neighbouring towns and the location itself was perfect. The beach was a stones throw away and it was just a 5 minute walk into Alvor.

Alvor is a beautiful place, the pictures we saw were an accurate representation. Plenty of restaurants to cover all tastes, lovely beaches and lots of quaint little streets which really captured the essence of Portugal.

If I had to pick a criticism it would be very few sunbeds around the pool but with the lovely beach so close this didn't pose as a problem for us.

This apart/hotel was excellent . 2 Minute walk from the beach , very modern , by far the best equipped self catering we have ever stayed in, clean , far enough from the town to escape any night noise yet withing easy walking distance ( 5 minutes) . The only negative I can think of is the shortage of sun loungers around the pool area , but to be honest the beach is so close by that it wasn't that important.
We will definitely return here .

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up to get the most of the views and facing the sea.
