Just returned from a week 10/09/13 reception staff friendly asked for a double bed and a sea view on arrival and was given room 1401 a livery large double beded room with a spectacular view, bed linen and towels changed daily. English tv on in room. Staff friendly and polite when spoken to. Now the down side, meals quite poor and of poor quality, and never hot always slightly warm, tea and coffee out of machines and always Luke warm. Entertainment poor and nothing on at all during the day. Did I have a good holiday yes would I return to this hotel NOOO WAY.

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor with sea view

Stayed here early September , used as a base for golf, the hotel exterior in need of a lick of paint our room on 16th floor was ok but in need of an update , the food was acceptable plenty of choice for veggies and meat eaters plenty of wine and beer available. Rated as 4 star but would be nearer 3, would go back again. Remember you get what you pay for an if you have a budget this is ok for you.

This was my first time visit. I went to a 5* in Turkey a few weeks ago but this trip was an all male golf holiday. This was by no means luxury but it was acceptable. Reception were helpful and friendly. The bar staff invariably had a welcoming smile and were attentive and looked after us very well indeed. Our room was large with a big bathroom with bath, shower, twin sinks etc. It smelled fresh and was cleaned to a very good standard daily. The beds were very comfortable. Each evening when we came in the room was spotless. The general decor was reasonable. The restaurant was fine. Everything was edible and there was a reasonable choice. Breakfast consisted of fresh fruits (a decent variety and it changed daily), fresh meats and cheeses and yoghurts. Cooked eggs, sausages and ham available each day and plentiful supplies of coffee (several choices - americano, cappuccino etc) and teas (leaf and fruit). Lots and lots of fresh water available including large bottles to take away (free of charge). Evening meals consisted of soups and salads and meats. Chicken, pork, lamb, hake, cod, salmon available and there is a chef cooking meats and fish fresh on a barbecue style griddle. There was always lots of rice, pasta and/or potatoes, (boiled or chipped). This is not a luxury hotel and that is basically because you don't pay a luxury hotel price. Nevertheless it was comfortable, clean and if you are on a tight budget then it's okay. Although we didn't participate, there was entertainment each night; duos, bingo and other entertainment. There are probably other activities but we didn't try anything as we were out playing golf all day.

Okay the decor is dated- so what ?. We have just come back from a great 10 day holiday On arrival the reception is well managed by smart, helpful and knowledgeable staff. The rooms are spotlessly clean, large and with a good sized bathroom. The bedding and towels are changed every day. There are no problems getting sun-beds around the pool at anytime, the pool is saltwater which felt good on burned skin. It's a couple of minutes walk to the beach which is fantastic, I would say stretching about a mile and a half. The beach is free from litter and there are no rocks as you go in to the sea. The sea is great fun with the waves but be careful with the young ones as there can be a bit of a current at times. The restaurant can be a bit chaotic at times but you will soon find the quieter times if you prefer. The food is very fresh and varied, i am a picky eater but i loved the food. The drinks are local brands but good quality with generous measures. If you fancy a night out, Alvor itself is a nice small fishing town with bars and restaurants. It's around 4 Euros in a taxi from the hotel. I would not say this is a 4* hotel but a excellent 3*. It's also a good place if you like running or walking. Over all I would have been happy to say on a few more days.

If you book i would say avoid the last weekend in August as the hotel is very busy with Portuguese families. They all head for the coastline to celebrate the sea's warmest night. (Thats what i was told they were doing)

Room Tip: Ask for a pool view with balcony.

Originally booked Hotel Dom Joao but were told on arrival that there was no room due to computer error so they moved us to Delfim with all inclusive + sea view to try to sweeten us. The Delfim is an ulgy high rise which is noisy tired + dated. The all inclusive basis attracts young families+ groups of golfers who seem to enjoy the free bar from what I could see. We ate dinner just twice + thereafter went into Alvor to eat as the food was not good. In its defence, other residents described better food on other nights so maybe we were just unlucky. The restaurant was noisy, chaotic+ reminded me of a Butlins holiday. The pool area was tired + tatty but as there is a fantastic beach 5 min walk away I cant believe anybody would want to sit around it.
The room was dated but looked freshly painted, spacious with big bathroom, firm comfy beds , good pillows with spares + nice cotton sheets.
Stay if you want a free bar, noisy mealtimes, luke warm tea + like bright décor.
The best thing was location to the fantastic beach. Sunbeds down there 12 euros/day for 2 loungers + parasol by the way.

Room Tip: stayed 718-pool/sea view. courtesy room 307- tiny double overlooking carpark.

Just got back from a weeks stay in the Delfim, on arrival we were greeted by Antonio.. very nice guy, would do anything for you and full of knowledge throughout our stay, few of the younger workers were slightly more enthusiastic as for the others pretty much old robots with little imagination.
We had an upgraded room looking across the pool and the sea from the 15th floor. Amazing view and spacious. Bathroom was nice with fresh towels and cleaned everyday.
Room generally needs a serious up-date though, that goes for the whole look of the exterior building to. Render falling off the front and paint pealing off everywhere. It might be a 4 star and 40 years plus in business but with out any money being spent on it, you wouldn't pass this as a 3 star in most guides. A serious make over needed here.

The Pool is salt water, Just what you need after a day down the beach...It has a bar which is sometimes open. Doesn't serve spirits, only beer and soft drinks. The Inside pool is tiny, the pictures are deceiving. Gym is set, within a cell in a basement. No spa.
Pool towels are only available at set times.. Would be worth leaving this open all day..?
The hotel is over run by kids. Yet there is a good mixture of couples, families (mainly Portuguese) as its they have a 12 week break from school.

Lots of golfers... Seems to be the place for golf ,with a good selection of courses available from the golf shop. Im no golfer but seems to be pretty geared up for them.

The Beach is amazing, head to the beach and head left where you'll find little alcoves and small beaches around the corner. Ive attached a picture.

At night take a cab to Alvor for the nightlife10 euros there and back right outside the hotel. There you will find funky bars and themed restaurants cooking amazing food. We did this every night as theres little in the hotel and we couldn't stomach the evening food at the hotel.

The only part of a good all inclusive is the food and drink. You can't get this right then you've failed!

Breakfast is terrible, If you like a continental your ok . Lunch is basically dinner but average. They need to try cooking up some variety for evening meals. Not everyone wants fish every night. You get one chef every night cooking one type of meat. Salads are good, you'll get one counter of dessert, wasn't bad. Ive had better at a 3 star. This was the main let down for us, needs improving. Didn't see a kids section for dinner, but plenty of kids screaming and playing around like a creche. Would be ideal to have a kids section away from adults.
Water for the tea is warm, plenty of bottled water, beer, wine and drinks are good.
Night time entertainment in the hotel was for the kids and very poor.
Hotel main bar opens at 7- 12 midnight, Could be open 24 hr or open earlier ?

Overall holiday was average for the money paid. Glad we had the location and the room. Alvor and the beach made our evenings. Some serious improvements to make before ever considering a second trip to the hotel. Alvor I would go back tomorrow. I just wish these owners would listen to there guests and make the adjustments as this could potential be as great as I hear... it used to be.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking directly over the pool. Request a double bed as they mark this as twin on you...
