“Great but wouldn't go back”
Reviewed June 27, 2012

Just come back from a 2 week stay at the Delfim. When we arrived Outside I thought that the hotel externally looked awful and was dreading going inside, but when you go in its perfectly fine. The hotel is stuck in the 70's decorative wise but we found it quite charming. Our room was massive (326) and upon looking at the fire drill room layouts on back of the door, 326 and 321 were biggest rooms on the whole floor (I'd assume it was the same on all floors) and our sea view was such a lovely thing to wake up to everyday. I personally wouldn't pay extra for the sea view as 70% of the hotel has a sea view (depends if you want to take the risk).

The food was perfectly fine but we found it very very boring after 5 days so we ended up eating in the town for 5 evenings out of our 14 night stay. Breakfast is typical English fry up, cereal and continental. Lunch we found was nicer than dinner sometimes. They had cream of vegetable soup every lunch and dinner with a second soup that changed daily. There is always a selection of meat and fish though. The only thing we found as a negative was the fact that the tables are not cleared quick enough and we went in at lunch a few times and couldn't find anywhere to sit unless we cleared the tables ourselves which isn't a big issue. I'd recommend sitting in the middle of the restaurant as you won't get harassed by flys. Saying this, the restaurant staff are all really friendly and they work really really hard. They really do try their very best, along with the 2 restaurant managers. We often saw them wiping up spillages in their suits and they are very friendly.

Entertainment - there is some but there may as well not be! It started at 10 most evenings yet it was full of screaming children so we didnt stay. To be honest of an evening it's very boring and there's really not much to do apart from go to the sunset bar and drink. We got taxi's to town most evenings just to walk about.

The beach - amazing!! The sunbeds used to be free years ago but the delfim decided to rent them out so they get some of what you pay. We used the blue beds and they were 10 euros for 2 beds and an umbrella or 2 beds, umbrella and wind guards. They are yours for the day so you can come and go as you please.

Wifi is free for 30mins - ask at reception

Excursions - swimming with dolphins at Aquamarine - excellent
Outback safari - no
Fiesta - yes very good
Loule market - market is pants but loule itself is a beautiful town so worth going just for that.

To be fair for what you pay it's very good.

Im 24 and my partner is 32 - we would recommend going but wouldn't go back to the hotel just because we would get our own apartment in alvor next time so we can do our own food etc. it was our first time in Portugal but not our last!

Room Tip: 3rd floor was on top of the plant room and this was sometimes noisy. I emailed them and asked for a...

Can't fault this holiday at all. The pestana delfim is a great place to stay rooms cleaned every day, clean towels daily. The staff all really friendly. The pool area has loads of loungers don't have to save them with towels would say that the pool is absolutely freezing though. Food was great loads of different choices certainly gained a few pounds. Beach 5 mins away was fantastic and walk into alvor really beautiful scenery. Can't wait to go back next year.

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel September 2011 and we had a lovely time. The hotel was as expected for an all inclusive package ( I always do my research before travelling!). The room was spacious, clean and air conditioned and the bathroom was very nice and spotless too. Our room was also equipped with a fridge which was useful for keeping our water bottles cold as the weather was still very hot when we went (the hotel is very generous and provides you with either big or small bottles of water at your request). I must say housekeeping does an excellent job and our room was cleaned daily to a very high standard with fresh towels supplied.

The pool area is nice; the water in the big pool is quite cold so we often used the smaller indoor pool. Pool/beach towels are also supplied so no need to pack your own unless you really want to! As we went off peak it was easier to get a sun lounger but this was not as important to us as we had a 5 minute walk to the beautiful beach of Alvor on our doorstep. It has to be one of the best beaches I've been to so far and certainly the best in Algarve! The sea is lovely and the beautiful coves separate parts of the beach which is really nice.

In terms of the food at the hotel, there was plenty of choice and we never went hungry, the food and beverages was not of the best quality but it was satisfactory. There is also the option of going to a few lovely but expensive restaurants in Alvor town centre (20 mins walk away). The bars are also nice there and the marina is beautiful. My only regret is that I wish we had spent more evenings in the town centre because there was not much to do at the hotel and entertainment was not the best. I would say this hotel is more suited to families or older couples but regardless you will still have a nice holiday.

Overall we had a lovely time and recommend going to Alvor and staying at this hotel if you are seeking a peaceful, relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

Room Tip: It's worth asking for a room with a sea view!

Arrived on 12/6/12 and were warmly welcomed by the reception staff, our room was on the 10th floor with lovely views of the pool, gardens and sea,my sister is afraid of heights so couldnt look down to the pool but otherwise fine, rooms are large and kept really clean, could do with refurbishment but no complaint.
Food was lovely for the first couple of days but after that im afraid it went downhill,I'm a chef and to be honest the meat was very bland and not very appetising to look at nor were the choices of veg and potatoes, pizza was very nice and the desserts were too.The waiters hardly ever smiled and when they took the plates away they would tip the remains of food into a black bag which was on a trolley in the restaurant, not very nice.Breakfast was fine, nice fruit, pots of yoghurts and nice bread, cooked breakfast didnt look very nice but i dont eat that anyways.
The bar staff werent very friendly either,no eye contact or conversation,to be honest it looked like they didnt want to be there, there were no alcholic spirits that i could drink but that didnt bother me,i dont drink vodka etc so i just stuck to soft drinks.
All in all it was a hit or miss hotel, wont be back to stay but would definately go back to Alvor as its lovely and the golf courses are second to none

My family & I (myself, my husband & 2 kids aged 7 & 10) spent 10 glorious days all inclusive at this hotel. Our room was big enough to accommodate 2 extra beds. The choice & quality of the food was excellent, a cold buffet, a hot buffet, a chef at the grill to cook fresh meat & a desert buffet. What more could you ask for. 3 meals a day & hot snacks available late afternoon also. Kids could have unlimited drinks/ice cream during the day. Alcohol available til midnight should you desire it! Live shows every evening, a couple of activities to keep the kids happy every afternoon. The outdoor pool was fantastic & it had loads of loungers around it to sunbathe on. A 5 minute walk through the garden to the beach & a 20 minute walk into central Alvor. This hotel is ideal for families with kids. The staff were nice & helpful. This is our second visit to the hotel & we hope to return in the future. Michele, Co. Kildare, Ireland.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a seaview.

What a lovely time we had at this hotel. The house keeping team do a great job in keeping everywhere spotless, the staff throughout the hotel are extremely welcoming and helpful and the catering staff, do such a fantastic job, catering to everyones tastes and preparing such a variety of food to such a high standard. We found the general atmosphere in the hotel very relaxing and the environment was so beautiful with the landscaped gardens. It is such a well run hotel and it was lovely to see the manager conversing with customers on a daily basis. The beautiful beach is 5 minutes away and Alvor village only 10 -15 minutes walk away. All in all, a great holiday !
