Was on The konigsdam and just had a day here one the famous Geiranger fjord. We spent some time in the delightful little town, and then took this beautiful walk up beside the spectacular waterfall. The walk was 300 odd steps, but not too steep. Anyone with reasonable fitness would manage quite easily.Lots of opportunities to take photos as you are very close to the rushing water. The views are just superb all the way. When you reach the top there is a cafe and rest rooms, where we had a coffee and admired the wonderful view. We decided to walk back down the road past the church and houses. We were very lucky with the weather and it was about 22 Celsius. The round trip was about 2 hours.
Very easy to step the good stairway along the waterfall. Access the stairs at the end of the town, just past the grocery store. Beautiful large waterfall, even in August-must be huge in the spring.
Take a walk to the waterfall from the local supermarket - Joker.
Easy walk and great views with lots of water volume since it's been raining a lot lately.
You can drive and park near Hotel Union if you choose not to walk.
This is a beautiful waterfall with nearly a 360 degree access for viewing. Up a tall staircase on one side, up a steep switchback road on the other side, with plenty of viewing below and above the waterfall. Makes for a wonderful hike before lunch. The view of the fjord from the top of the waterfall is spectacular.
This is a short uphill walk (signposted as Waterfall Walk) a short distance from the port. It begins on gravel paths following a steady stream of water. As it develops you walk along metal grating and get spectacular views of the rapids and waterfall. This was very busy with tourists but well worth it all the same. Depending upon the wind direction, there may be some spray in some sections of the path but it was not slippy and could be avoided. Geiranger is the best area I have visited in Norway to see waterfalls and the metal slopes make this one great for large groups. I definitely recommend taking photos on the way up, both of the waterfall itself and the view of the fjord from here. You follow the waterfall a limited way but it is enough to get a good feel of it - so it is especially suitable for cruise passengers with a limited shore time. You end up at the Fjord Center which also has great views in 360 degrees (plus toilets ane a sheltered area from any rain!). Although best in the sunshine, this walk can be done in all weathers with all kinds of people. Bring a camera, but otherwise nothing is required. It should take around half an hour and is well worth it. It is not a circular walk but there are other ways down with similar views. The main problem was the sheer number of tourists but even this didn't affect it too much as crowds are catered for very well. I certainly recommend this easy walk as a great way to experience the area without straying too far from the port.
If you are not particular fan of hiking or have some mobility issues, this one is for you. A very nice waterfall in a "civilized" version (which to some might be a disadvantage as well). I would suggest pointing your initial steps from Geiranger port if you plan to hike - you end up just by the Norsk Fjordsenter, being a natural starting point for many hike routes.
