Review of Olebuda Restaurant

Olebuda Restaurant
Ranked #5 of 12 Restaurants in Geiranger
Price range: $19 - $37
Cuisines: European
Description: A restaurant, cafe and gift shop under one roof! Olebuda is located in the centre of Geiranger. A modern restaurant in a traditional venue, Olebuda was the first local grocery store in Geiranger. Olebuda with its central location has been in business ever since the first tourists started coming to Geiranger around 1880. At Olebuda you can be part of the lively street life or you can retire to the terrace just below Westeråsfjellet. On the second floor, you will find our nice à la carte restaurant. Ideal for a romantic dinner for two, business dinners or other small or large dinner parties. Our philosophy is to use traditional ingredients of today, but with respect for our forebears. Olebuda is a full service restaurant. It is possible to book a separate space for groups of 10-12 people. The restaurant’s maximum capacity is 60 people inside and 100 outside. On our idyllic terrace you can order food at the table or take drinks from the bar. You may also take your coffee from our cafe on the first floor and enjoy it on the terrace. We are open all year for advance bookings from groups. Out of season, you can hire the entire restaurant premises fully-equipped and you may even bring your own chef and food. The a´la carte RestaurantOlebuda is open 25.5-3.9.2017, and the coffee shop CafeOle is open 29.4-29.10 2017

A very cozy place. There is not many places to eat in Geiranger, but I think this one is the best. Food comes in form of tapas with local ingredients. I have enjoyed it very much. We have also tried local cheese which was excellent. I would be happy to visit that place again.

Very nice location that attract everybody. Very good prices shown on the menu just before the entry. Everything changes once you are inside. Only when you are ordering the staff explain you that the portions are very little and you need at least three of them per person. We wait a lot, every time we ordered something. At the end the bill was 75 nok higher than expected. This was the price of some slice of bread. Positive the waitress' smile.

Geiranger is an extraordinary place but people come for the scenery, literally by the boatload.
Most of the shops were focussed on the tourist trade and providing a quick coffee/cake for the visitors. We were staying there though and wanted something more substantial for late lunch. above the Ole cafe and under the same ownership we noticed a restaurant with the frankly perverse opening time of 2 PM! Entrance is at the rear of the cafe and when we went in there was an empty, nicely appointed room with well set tables. The waitress explained that they served "Norwegian tapas" which made me think we would get small portions and what seemed reasonable prices would work out expensive, but she assured us that two or three dishes and potatoes would make a full meal.

The choice was small but very interesting and I could have happily tried anything on offer. A lovely change from the burgers/pizzas that seemed ubiquitous. We were delighted with our meal. I had curried monkfish in a lentil broth with roast veg and my wife had venison in a wine sauce as I recall. We ordered a bowl of roast potatoes with it and it was plenty for a lunch.

This was the best food we had in Norway by far and the overall price was very fair. I did suggest they should review their marketing and drop the 'tapas' description as I saw several people looking at the otherwise interesting menu and pass on.

If you are there, give it a try.

Very cozy restaurant, they serve high class tapas made from the finest Norwegian ingredients.

Location is in the center right next to the dock. They also have a large out door area for the good weather days.

The best part is the price level. This place is fairly priced by Norwegian standard, which means it's about 40% cheaper than the tourist-traps.

Enjoy :-)

On their homepage "open mai to august". Nevertheless they closed down for the season on the 22nd of August leaving a big poster on the road "WE ARE OPEN". No sign in the restaurant window that they had closed, at the opposite. Obviously not trustworthy.

Im sorry to here that you did not find your way to our restaurant, I do not really know what went wrong? The 22. August Restaurant Olebuda was open between 18:00-22:00, and my staff in CaféOlé in the 1.floor would have been happy to give you personal assistance in there opening hour 09:00-18:00.
