“perfect in every way”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

After a week touring venice and florence Locanda dell Amorosa was a much needed retreat.

The atmosphere is absoultely breathtaking. The quiet and peaceful surroundings force you to slow down, take a lot of deep breaths and relax. This was the perfect opportunity to really reconnect with everything.

The room was comfortable, spacious and rustic adding to the charm of the surroundings. I has the best sleep of my 2 weeks in Italy.

The staff was extremely helpful and attentive.

Breakfast was typical of the other Italian hotels...but everything is better with fresh air, warm staff and rustic charm.

The location was perfect for day trips to Siena, san Gimignano, montepulciano, which we did.

Free wi fi was also great

I didn't want to leave and cannot wait to return.

The thing about Tuscany is that its mystique has been so widely lauded that it is hard to image the actual place living up to its billing. Generally, and amazingly, it does. But if you want to enhance that experience with a pitch perfect lodging choice then you really owe it to yourself to consider Locanda dell'Amorosa. More below:

Location: Amorosa is located just outside the town of Sinalunga. It is about 30 minutes from Sienna and 20 minutes from Montepulciano. We drove from Florence and found the drive pleasant and easy. Good access to highways and the A1 Autostrada. Amorosa is not incredibly close to anything but not more than an hour from Southern Tuscany's most intriguing cities. This makes it an ideal base for day trips. We found Sinalunga's services useful during our stay.

Dining & Amenities: The hotel has a restaurant that offers lunch and dinner. We dined there our first evening on property and enjoyed its fine rustic Tuscan cuisine. More meat intensive than many area restaurants. The bill was more than reasonable. Breakfast was included and was served in the 'wine bar'. It was the best hotel breakfast we have had in Italy. The 'wine bar' itself is open in season around happy hour. It's worth scheduling time for. Amorosa was its own city long ago and the hotel is a collection of buildings that once house farmworkers and provided for their meals, schooling, ect. There is a chapel on property as well as a working vineyard. The history of the property is fascinating; the opportunity to live it for a few days is nothing short of magical. Amorosa also offers a pool and a desktop computer with a printer in the lobby.

Service: Five star. The front desk staff spoke perfect English... and French, German, ect. They offered perceptive, intelligent suggestions for day trip destinations, restaurants and things to do. Several special requests were handled flawlessly. On request, the restaurant provided us a picnic basket of wine, cheese and meats for a sunset picnic one night... it was a highlight of our trip.

Rooms: Amorosa feels more like a collection of private apartments than a hotel. Ours had a great view of the countryside, a modern bathroom and a comfortable bedroom. The furnishings were appropriately rustic but luxurious in their own right. The Four Seasons this is not but that is the whole point. I had some of the best sleep ever at Amorosa.

Other: Amorosa offers wi-fi and it is easy to access in the common areas. I had trouble getting it to work in our room. Self-parking is included but not necessarily close to your room. The wine and olive oil produced on property are for sale and make a nice reminder of your stay.

Bottom Line: Amorosa is not cheap but worth every penny. This is what travel should always be about.

Amorosa is a working farm that produces its own wine and olive oil.Its has a church in the palazzo alto, with a wine bar the doubles as a breakfast room which is done very very well. In the afternoon you can have coffee or wine in the palazzo. The pool area is beautiful.Staff were all wonderful. The restaurant that serves lunch and diner is fantastic,(will write a separate review). The suite that we had was beautiful .This is a MUST GO if you are the area.If you not in the area make a detour and get there!!

This former hamlet is now part resort, part hotel, part bed and breakfast. It was recommended to us by a close friend who owns a villa in Cortona, about 40 km away, though he himself lives mostly in the US now. I now know why he suggests it to all his friends from the US when they visit Tuscany. The setting and atmosphere are quintessential-Tuscan. The rooms are incredibly large and very comfortable. It is true that it is easy to get to. We took the train into Sinalunga from Rome. They arranged to have us picked up at the train station. Later, they made all the arrangements for us to rent a car so that we could get lost in Tuscany visiting wineries and enjoying the countryside. The staff at Amorasa is excellent. We have to tip our hats to Irena and Debora. Finally, though we had options, we thoroughly enjoyed eating many of our meals at the Amorasa restaurant--Le Coccole. The food, service, and atmosphere are all excellent, better than we experienced eating out in the towns nearby.
Now we are in a position to recommend this diamond to others....and happily do so.

Room Tip: We choose to purchase in advance. In doing so, we got a great deal on a 2nd level special suite--pr...

We absolutely loved this hotel. Besides the gorgeous grounds, the staff was amazing. They stopped everything anytime I came to the front desk and couldn't be more helpful. I dealt with Larena and Debra and they were both so sweet and accommodating with any request. Our room was fantastic. We have a suite that overlooked the town of Sinalunga in the distance. Every morning, I would walk into the bathroom and it looked like a fairy tale outside my window. Had the same view from our room as well. We lit a fire one chilly night in the room and simply enjoyed the quiet. We were there beginning of April so very quiet. We can only imagine how wonderful it would be in warmer weather when you could really enjoy all the outside areas. Very well situated in Tuscany. Not very far from most towns your would want to visit.

The entire hotel is magical and the restaurant is one of the best in Tuscany. We stayed in the tower room and were amazed at the setting. The view from the window makes you never want to leave your room to explore further. We have one child and the room set up is not really constructive for small a small child because of the stairs, but we knew this and just paid extra attention to safety. The hotel has plenty of other rooms that are perfect for families though as we stayed with friends who showed us their rooms.

The staff were wonderfully attentive to every need we had... even bringing us drinks in the courtyard in off hours. The staff even booked us reservations for wine tasting during a Saturday evening... difficult thing to do in off season we found out.

The restaurant is wonderful with great service and food. The only caution I would give is to look at the cost because it is the ONLY downside to the place. The breakfast is one of my favorite in Italy, and we have visited every corner of the Country. They were ever so helpful with our son, and the food is above average for Italian breakfasts.

Overall, I would stay here again in a heartbeat. Every aspect in my opinion was perfect and even a good value with higher cost. Try the Fiorintina....

Room Tip: Take the tower room for the view!

I live part time in the U.S. but have a vacation home in Northern Italy. For weekends I like to to explore Tuscany and it's vast wine resources. This hotel/borgo is a wonderful setting. It is close to all major wine estates, a short beautiful drive to every town you would want to visit.
The staff are quite helpful and will assist with planning day trips. It is an ideal place to relax by the pool overlooking the hills of Tuscany and just sipping a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Warning, try to arrive during the day, the estate, though huge, is not easy to find at night as the signage is minimal.
Unlike many hotel restaurants, do not miss this one, it is wonderful. You do not need to leave the property for a wonderful dinner.
