“Wow!! This was the highlight of our two week trip to Italy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

Gabriella, Paolo and Marco (luckily home for 10 days) made this an extraordinary experience. After the traffic and bustle of Rome and Florence, this was the perfect place to relax and soak in the beautiful Tuscan countryside. Paolo took our teen aged grandson under wing to help feed the sheep, goats, chickens and pigeons, sharing the life of an agriturismo with him. The food that Gabriella prepares is truly a work of love, excellently prepared using either their own herds/flocks or neighboring farms. Sign up for breakfast and dinner. It is an experience in itself. She is a wonderful teacher and the cooking class is not to be missed. We arrived tired and ready to relax and hated to leave when our visit was over.

The rooms and outbuildings, as expected, are rustic, with upgrades of barns and the original farmhouse, charmingly decorated. They are comfortable, clean and airy with a full kitchen. There is horse back riding in the area, Paolo escorted us to the location and set up the ride for us. It is centrally located to allow visits to surrounding medieval towns.

5 stars for this great experience. Thank you Gabriella, Paolo and Marco for sharing your beautiful home and for being loving hosts.

We stayed in Il Caggio for a week, and if I could I would stay even longer! Gabriella and Paolo are really great and warm hosts. I think the two highlights were the home cooked real Tuscan food (plus the free cooking classes) and the hot salty water jacuzzi!! Gabriella is an amazing cook and I really recommend this b&b to everyone with or without kids.

We stayed here with our two children, aged 8 and 10 for one night and enjoyed every minute of it! A beautiful setting, surrounded by hills and and peace. If you are looking for a 4 star luxury place, then this is not for you. However, if you are looking for a rustic, real, peaceful Tuscan experience then you are on the right track. As Gabriella has a 5 year old Grandson of her own, she was great with our children and made them feel at ease straight away. We had pre-organised for Gabriella to teach our family pasta-making (no machines in sight!) and she is happy to do this if you pay for the evening meal (30Euros each). Our kids loved it and Gabriella went on to produce the most amazingly abundant meal with wonderful local specialties. Our kids loved the space and the little playground with tortoises and birds to look at. Wish we could have had longer here. Would definitely go back.

Room Tip: Stay for longer than one night.

We have just returned from a wonderful stay at Gabriella and Paolo's 'Heaven on Earth.' Nothing was too much trouble and we enjoyed superb food and wonderful wine. Gabriella is obviously a very talented cook but she is also quite happy to take the time to show others how she prepares her food, and I spent several delightful hours watching and assisting her with the preparation of some amazing meals. I've picked up many tips to extend my own repertoire and shall take great delight in resurrecting many Tuscan memories by preparing home made pasta and cakes - a la Gabriella! The buildings are perfectly preserved examples of traditional Tuscan architecture and we enjoyed the many small touches which made our stay feel as if we were in someone's own home, rather than a hotel.

Room Tip: Everywhere is lovely, but our apartment was all on ground floor - whilst otehrs had stairs to negoti...

This is a wonderful place to stay. Paolo and Gabriella are great hosts, Gabriella is a wonderful cook, and the setting is terrific. She gave us a cooking class one afternoon, explaining the secrets of her cooking - which we had for dinner afterwards. Great fun.

Tips for finding the place. The abandoned farmhouse is the first house you encounter after crossing a short bridge, when coming from the South (ie from Monte S Savino). Turn left there. The crossroads referred to in their directions are really the first cross roads that you will see. The left side of the road is about 2-3 meters high at the crossroads and there is a shrine to Mary at the top. Turn left there, so that the shrine remains on your left. The road remains paved for about 50 meters and then becomes unpaved. The farmhouse will be on your right. The sign is in the shape of a tall, slender house, with the name on it.

Room Tip: There are suites with in suite cooking and regular hotel-type rooms. We had the latter, which came w...

I can't tell it enough how much we enjoyed our stay at this place. We spent a few days at this resort in the Tuscan countryside. It was like a dream. Casale Il Caggio clearly shows how much it depends on the owners, Paolo and Gabriela. The owners have offered us simply exceptional service. The location is very beautiful, quiet and peaceful. It is built on a fairly large land where animals are raised: lambs, goats, chicken and pigeons. And many others. We definitely loved our fresh eggs from the garden. The swimming pool is quite nice, and if you fancy for a jacuzzi don't miss this chance. A car is needed for sure and it is easy to go around even for short trips (however the hotel was so good that we did not want to). The building is beautiful and authentically tuscan, dating back to 1600s, and the owners have preserved the atmosphere and architecture very well, without giving up from comfort. Our room had very high ceilings with a beautiful view of the garden. The building has two entrances, our section had a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room downstairs, and two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs. Our room was old style and absolutely lovely. It was clean and everything we could ask for. Gabriela is an extraordinary cook and the best time we spent there was during the breakfasts. We also found out that you can take cookery courses - I am sure it's worth it. I will definitely be recommending this to all my friends and I can't wait to go back!

We stayed at Il Caggio for 4 nights and had an amazing time at this beautiful farm in a picturesque Tuscan setting. Paolo and Gabriella were very welcoming and helpful and Il Caggio was a great base for exploring Tuscany. We visited Sienna, Cortona, Greve in Chianti -- all less than an hour away -- and took one slightly longer trip for a day hike in the Casentinesi Forest National Park in the northeastern corner of Tuscany. In addition to the location we had been looking for an agriturismo where dinner was available and Gabriella's home cooking -- using all local ingredients -- proved to be the best food we had in Italy (and we ate well all over!); our only regret was not taking the cooking class they offered. Our apartment was elegant and relaxing with fully-equipped kitchen, sitting room, private garden terrace, and both morning and afternoon sunlight. We were absolutely thrilled with our stay and hope to return to Il Caggio on our next trip to Italy. Thank you, Paolo and Gabriella!
