“All inclusive???”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We have just returned from a weeks supposedly all inclusive holiday booked through Hotelsbooked.com. We experienced similar problems to the recent reviewers. So, on arrival at 10pm there were no refreshments available. We were told the bar had just closed and that we would have to purchase food and drinks (18 euros for toasties and a couple of drinks). Not a great start! The additional costs continued throughout the holiday - the all inclusive deal at the bar included extremely poor quality wine, vodka and juices and had limited opening times. At our first lunch we took through our unfinished glasses of wine and were informed that it was not allowed and we would have to purchase any drinks at the table. So, over the week, we ran up quite a bill on sparkling water and a few glasses of wine. Even a bottle of Nastro was 4 euros! Now to the food - breakfast was fine and a reasonable selection - lunch and dinner however were poor with a very limited choice and such a pity as there are so many great ingredients readily available. We voted with our feet, as did others and went out for a few meals. This obviously ramped up the cost of the holiday. The general feeling was that the holidaysbooked.com guests were singled out for a more second rate treatment. The owner did not help by having his family meals in the same restaurant with extremely superior meals!! His customer service skills were non-existent.
On the plus side, our room was cleaned to a good standard and we had a great view towards the sea from a spacious balcony. The housekeeping staff were friendly and even did some ironing when we couldn't find an iron! The pool was excellent and very clean.
We hired a car for some of the week - good if you want more than relaxing by the pool. Well worth a visit - Segesta, Erice and Castellamare harbour. If you can stand the long drive, Etna is amazing!

Many times I've read poor reviews for hotels I've stayed in and thought the reviewers must have been staying somewhere else, but in this case the recent reviews are absolutely right. Last year we went to Lake Como with holidaysbooked via Groupon and it was excellent, so when we saw this years offer for Sicily, a place still on my 'to do' list, we didn't hesitate. We knew before we went that there was a limited choice of drinks and limited times for the 'open bar', as the hotel called it, but we've done enough All inclusives to know they vary from hotel to hotel so we weren't too worried. This was the worst and most complicated system we've come across. Tea and coffee was fine, but cappuccinos had to be paid for, water had to be paid for, fruit cocktails were just cartons of various juices randomly splashed in glasses with some vodka if you wanted alcohol cocktails, Limoncello ( an acquired taste I think) but no beer! All a bit random! Things looked good on arrival, room fine, lovely well kept grounds and friendly staff. It was about 11pm when we got there, and as the open bar finished at 10 we bought two beers and went to bed, there was no offer of any sandwiches, as some hotels have offered us when arriving late.(We found out later some of fellow travellers had asked and got a tiny toasted sandwich and then got charged for them) Next morning things still looked promising, lovely breakfast and prime spot by the pool on comfy sunbeds. Towels available and it wasn't too crowded. However, once we got into the swing of things we realised this wasn't the holiday we thought it might be. Lunch was a choice of 3 dishes, one usually pasta, tasty but minute, with no salad table but a basket of bread. That's when we realised taking drinks to the table from the bar, even though it was within the open bar period, was strictly a no no. (Having said that, the two of us always took a glass of wine each from the bar and bought a bottle of water at each meal, which seemed to pacify the staff) Many people felt embarrassed when told off by the waiters, and it was a sore point with most guests. Same thing at dinner, two courses, very small portions but with a salad buffet (well, lettuce tomato and cucumber with the odd extra bowl of maybe olives or sweetcorn), but as one of the starter choices was always salad it didn't excite many people. What food we got was, however, generally very tasty. Most people went out for meals at some point, but we would have done anyway, it was the point that we felt obliged to that annoyed guests, but what I found most annoying was the fact that the owner and his family/ friends ate in the dining room at every meal, and their table was full of lovely food while his paying guests felt like poor relations. There were a couple of functions which meant every one had to leave the pool area early, but one of them coincided with our pool BBq evening. Two sides of the pool were set out, the private function had far more food and choice than we, the guests did, and there was not enough meat on the barbie for all of us. That again really grated with us all. I could go on and on about small things which on their own seem petty but put it all together and it became a big issue. Definitely not a welcoming hotel, although the lady behind the (tiny) bar was lovely. The owner needs to work on his customer service skills (sat puffing cigarettes all day by the pool underneath No Smoking signs didn't help and I'm not even a smoker!!) and barking orders at his poor staff to pick up bits of litter as he stood by it was just embarrassing.

This is definitely not an All inclusive hotel and doesn't want to be. The hotel itself is very nice but is no where near a 4 star. There was seating for only about 20 outside the bar and no inside seating, people sitting at outside dining tables to drink were asked to move even after the dining had finished. There was nothing outside the hotel, although apparently you could get a lift into town for free, where there were bars and restaurants. The nearest bars ( and the public beach) were about 15 mins walk away.
All in all, not the best place for an introduction to Sicily and we won't be going back.

The hotel itself was actually of a decent standard although I wouldn't say 4 star. The rooms were clean and pool area was nice. However we had booked an all inclusive package with holidaysbooked.com, when we arrived at the hotel we found that we would have to pay for water and that no drinks would be included during meal times despite the fact the free bar was open at these times. The choice of drinks was very limited and the only spirit offered was vodka which the hotel ran out of during the last part of the holiday. We were told by the staff when we complained about the drinks that it was actually only part inclusive at the hotel despite the fact that holidaysbooked.com had sold us all inclusive.

There was only a very limited choice on the food available, not comparable with any other all inclusive I have ever been to and the standard of food received at the hotel was often inedible meaning we had to buy food elsewhere.

After we complained to the hotel staff about the food we were offered an alternative which we happily accepted, however we were then told that we would have to pay for anything additional. After the complaint the staff were very rude and inattentive whenever we tried to use the restaurant this made the rest of our stay very uncomfortable and we felt our only option was to spend as much time away from the hotel as possible. This was made worse when the manager of the hotel told us that because we had spoken to other holiday makers we were slandering there business and under Italian law they could phone the police and have us arrested, the day after this the police were wandering around the grounds which we felt was a way of intimidating us into not complaining further.

Out of the seven nights we stayed at this hotel there was four functions. The function were set up around the pool area, this started around 4.30pm with no warning, when staff would start laying out tables all around guests as the sunbathed around the pool despite the fact the pool did not close till 7pm and the functions did not begin till around 9pm.

Overall this has to be the worst holiday I have ever been on and have found that the tour operator holidaysbooked.com have been completely disinterested in my complaints since my return home. I would never visit this hotel again and would definitely not book anything with this holiday company.

having recently spent over a weeks vacation at this hotel , seen on a groupon offer & booked through holidaysbooked.com (stay well clear ) an all inclusive? with limitations i.e. free bar periods 12.00 -14.00 & 17.00- 22.00. The fist time at wich you realise its all going pear shaped is when its too late, at the point of arrival when checking in they print off an a4 sheet of paper telling you, wait for it ! there is no water, beer included just when you think that's bad enough it then tells you that the drinks within the free bar periods could not be taken into the meal areas, drinks requested during meal times were billed to youre room, it would be very conceivable to spend best part of £100 -4 euros per bottle !, let alone bills for beer & or wine- what a con.
Now onto the food, breakfast -same every day -minimal but ok, lunch - a choice of 2 types of measely portioned under cooked pasta, evening meal - described in correspondence as buffet, this is not the case but actually pasta as starter, 2 choices of main meal which consisted of small under cooked portions not at the correct temperature, how can you receive undercooked pasta in Italy!,one evening two small piecesof barely warm beef with lemon sauce and one grilled tomato halved, this was a low point & after numerous complaints from ourselves other groups all of varying nationalities it got slightly better, we lodged complaints whilst at the hotel with holidaysbooked.com who now with hindsight & some investigation are an unreliable & non customer focussed outfit, avoid at all cost ,neither are they abta registered.
Its very apparent that profit for both the hotel & holidaysbooked.com is paramount & customer satisfaction very low on the list.
The hotel caters heavily for cabin crew & wedding parties both activities affect holiday makers in that overbookings were commonplace whilst we were there, these people went to different hotels, weddings 3 days on the run setting up around the pool area making you feel uneasy & having to move from around 17.00, all this including confrontation & some staff giving you the glares adds up to a memorable break at the Magaggiari, I have never reported good or bad before but felt compelled to do so! With all that said the hotel is nice on the eye, rooms ok,poolarea nice, some of the staff very nice. D&K

Stayed here in mid June, yes on a groupon offer, the hotel itself is very nice, even though the air conditioning was not great, and it was very hot, we had a pool facing room, and there were 2 private parties while we were there, so quite noisy.
I loved the buffet breakfast, lovely fresh rolls, scrambled eggs, and yummy croissants.
Lunch was hit and miss, very small, with just 2 choices.
Evening dinner was not good, we went out for 3 nights of the 5 we stayed there, the 1st night I thought we were just unlucky, but after giving it a second chance, did not bother anymore.
The groupon offer, did not turn out to be a bargain in the end, going out for dinner, buying drinks, we spent a lot more money then we expected.
If you want a chill out holiday, by the pool, this is a great place to stay, just don't expect fantastic Italian food.

Room Tip: Our room was a facing the pool, very nice, but noisy if private parties were going on.

Have to agree with some of the items raised by the other reviewers, ie lack of choice of drinks and not being able to take them into the restaurant. But we very much enjoyed our stay and would consider going back again at some date..We were given a large villa with our own private garden and a large main bedroom ,a large lounge diner with a smaller bedroom as well. the gardens were kept very nice throughout the whole complex and everywhere was kept immaculately clean as well as the pool area. Plenty of sunbeds for everyone, with all the staff being great and very helpful. The breakfast was a good standard with plenty of choice and you could help yourself to as much as you wanted. Lunch was small but to be quite honest we did not have breakfast till fairly late most days, so the lunch was adequate but it was a long time until the evening meal, perhaps tea of coffee with a few biscuits/cake could have been served at about 4 to 4.30 which would have cost coppers. To be quite honest we felt is was very good value for what we paid, the company that Hotels booked for the transfer were spot on as well, i could not believe how quiet the main roads were in Sicily. The air conditioning was of good quality but needed gassing up to help make it effective. Another small problem is that the showers were so powerful that they pushed the curtain out so that it flooded the bath room floor

Room Tip: Take plenty of books and ask for the book that has the excursions in , we only found it with 2 days...

We booked this resort through GroupOn which sold as "All Inclusive" "4Star resort". Definitely a sham as the rooms, services, choice of food etc was really a 3 star and All inclusive wasn't really an all inclusive deal. In this resort's all inclusive you could have a buffet breakfast (okish selection but it was the same everyday); one very small portion of lunch which was either pasta, rice or salad. At first i thought my lunch was the starter and I couldn't believe that it was the lunch and i had to starve for good few hours until dinner. For dinner there was starter and main but again very limited choices. We hardly ate there and spent money in the near by restaurants for our proper meals. It was also disappointing to see that the owner and his family had full course lunch and dinner (different menu for them) whilst we were given only peanuts! It was just not fair for the price we paid.

The all inclusive drinks were poor quality house wine (you would expect Italian house wine would be great but not in this resort, I have a strange feeling that they diluted their wines). the drinks also included fruit cocktail with local vodka. Drinks were served from 12-2pm and between 5-10pm but you couldn't take your drinks to the dinner table. So if you wanted to have wine with your small and non-tasty portion of food, you would have to pay for it. Was surprised that even beers weren't included in the all inclusive deal. Peroni (mind you it's a local Italian beer) was a alarming £4 per bottle.

Although it was an AC room, it was ineffective and was truly a blower rather than an AC. They advertised free wifi everywhere but we didn't have it in either of the two rooms we changed in between.

Also, i checked our bill on departure and found out that it was over-prized. Had to tally it back with the reception and saved about 25Euros.

On the plus side (which weren't many), it has a nice pool area to relax, sunbath, chill. On thursdays they organise bbq by the pool and it was a lovely atmosphere. We were expecting each night to be like that where there is a buffet style dinner under the stars with nice grilled meat and fish. The staff were helpful and looked after their guests well. The lawn tennis court was nice and we played few games there.

I will definitely not go back to this resort or for that matter, book on a holiday via groupon. We paid around £650 for this resort for a week and for that price, we could have found somewhere better and nicer.
