“Unpretentious, great food”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

This small, basic and homely restaurant is slightly off the beaten track but well worth seeking out (closed on Sundays).
Excellent antipasti platter for sharing(meats, cheese, aubergine, potato),followed by very good veal fillet and excellent sirloin (both served with rocket).Very good chips as a side. Great value and a taste of a real neighbourhood restaurant.
A real find.

“Greatness off the tourist track”
Reviewed June 7, 2013

No menu. 3 primi selections. 3 secondi selections. Need a good memory. Truth in the fact that the fewer selections, the higher the quality.
But food was great. Chef Giuseppe and his daughter Elvira were both charming and warm. And he is excellent chef. Not much English, but the gnochetti primi made up for any language problems!!! Wow. We had meat secondi which was succulent and perfectly done. Can't go wrong.........

“Such wonderful food mmmm - try it”
Reviewed July 12, 2012

I am not sure where to start because we really did have the most wonderful food. I have said that many times in my reviews of restaurants but I cannot believe in the 5 years we have been coming to Ostuni that we have failed to go to this restaurant before. If you get the opportunity do go. We had the Mediterranean starter for min 2 people at 18 Euros - dish after dish of such wonderful flavours especially the gorgeous courgette with lemon and mint favours so delicately cooked, a pollenta that was as light as a feather with a crusty top, I could list them all - but they were all special in their own way. We have had this sort of mezze starter many times before but this was truly exceptional. The amazing thing was that we expected to pay, and it was worth it, 18 Euros twice for 2 of us but the 18 was for 2 people! We then had pasta, john had cuttlefish and sundried tomatoes with taglioni (?) and I had spaghetti with mussels. Sounds quite standard stuff but the sauce with the mussels was such an excellent jus with flavours of the sea. We told the excellent staff who speak some english, how impressed we were and to compliment the chef. He was brought out and we gave him a round of applause - he is brilliant. Despite my best intentions I had the desert de la casa which was a toffee semifreddo with caramel sauce & nuts, it was delicious. The wine was very good too a Primitevo Salento at 16E. John had a grappa while I had my desert. Total cost - 65 Euros - amazing value at todays rates my credit card shows this cost £52 for 2 with wine for such wonderful food. We ate inside where it is air conditioned (daytime temperatures currently 38 degrees) but there is also a terrace at the front. The staff especially the lovely waiter were very good and attentive. I think they are closed on a Wednesday.

A simple restaurant with great local recipies. Try the antipasti mix. Prices are very low considering the high quality.

“WOW The chef is talented and passionate”
Reviewed March 6, 2012

We had the BEST meal here on Monday. The restaurant is as good as any ANYWHERE. We had antipasta made by the chef's hand at his house..the zuppa...the misto...it was all good. We live in NYC and the chef told us of his friends restaurant Zio in NYC...but the restaurant we want to eat at again ( and will!!) is Al Chiostro. The price/value is perfect. Don't hesitate...this is the best in Puglia!!
