We ate here by chance having decided to wander until we found somewhere promising. The door to the restaurant, behind the Pescheria, was missable but we found our way in and were the only customers, which we thought might be a bad sign. However, it was only 7.30pm and others started to come in. Our waiter was friendly and took our order after allowing us a suitable amount of time to read the menu. Having ordered the antipasti della casa an amuse bouche of bread, topped incongrously with ham, arrived immediately with a bowl of fresh bread and tarralli. Within another minute or two myriad dishes of seafood started to arrive, mostly cold but the best was a plate of 3 types of seafood mousse. We ate our way through it all and would quite happily have gone home then but we had ordered a plate of pasta each, again delicious. We drank water only, my partner having made the most of the wine festival earlier in the evening, but even so the bill was amazingly reasonable given the very good food we had eaten. Only downside was it was a bit cool but we guessed that was something to do with the Pescheria next door! Would go there again.

This place is a short walk away from the main square of Piazza Liberta. There is a brilliant wet fish shop with a quality fish restaurnat attached behind. We had lunch outside the main shop where there are a few tables and chairs. You go in, make your choice and pay and then eat outside. We had a platter of pesce frittura (mixed seafood platter) a feast for any fish lover. Great place for lunch or go to the restaurant for a fantastic evening meal. English is at a premium here so a bit of Italian knowledge will help you but even if you can't speak the language be bold. The rewards are worth it.

Wasn't too sure initially what was going on here. It always had many customers sitting outside, so we went to try it. We were stopped from sitting at a table by an Italian, who explained to us that we needed to select what we wanted to eat from inside the shop first. Inside is a marvellous array of fresh fish on marble slabs covered in ice. We chose a fritto misto (mixed fish inc calamari (squid), octopus, white bait, prawns, sardines, swordfish etc - for 6 people. The assistant got a big bag, piled everything in weighed it, We selected some wine / water, paid the bill (65 Euro), and then sat down. It was lovely. A takeaway with a difference.

I have been buying the freshest fish from this fishmonger for approx 15 years so you can imagine my dellight when they recently started to cook the fish and sell it on a take away basis (or al fresco at the tables overlooking the Monumenti dei caduti). Prices are good and not much more than the raw state. A takeaway supper of fried fish of the day is always a hit with the family, and an impromptu lunch of riso patate e cozze or a panino with octopus after a morning at the beach fits the bill too. On balmy summer evenings we go al fresco, choose our fish, soak in the atmosphere while we sip chilled white wine and wait for the day's catch to be served in a variety of ways. Buon appetito!
