The setting is in a pretty garden on different levels and with plenty of customers. There the positives ended. Service was without a single smile , waiters just looked bored .The antipasto selection was dire , almost everything was full of cheese and showed neither imagination , nor local quality ingredients . My wife's steak was so tough , impossible to eat.My veal roast was pre-cooked and reheated , potatoes so salty as to be inedible.
On our compaining how poor it all was , the waiter just took the money and shrugged . Avoid !!!

We ate here on a Friday evening during a trip to Puglia. We were recommended the restaurant by the owners of the Villa we were staying in and we were happy to give it a go.

The restaurant is very pretty, over several levels. Upon arrival we ordered water and wine and with it came some nice little Bruschetta and bread. We were given menus and whilst we were looking through the owner came and went through it describing every dish (handy as it was all in Italian!)

Having been caught out before on the size of the Anti Pasti in this region, we ordered three between six of us. This was plenty. A lovely selection of vegetables, sausages, flans and other bits - all really tasty.

On to the Primi - we all had pasta - wild boar pappadelle, mushroom lasagne, squid ink pasta and prawn rice with a broad bean sauce. All gorgeous! We had wanted to try a secondi, but we were all so full it was impossible.

We thought a nice coffee would be good but strangly (especially for Italy) there was no coffee machine - we were told it was because of the position of the restaurant but still a little strange!

The only downside to this restaurant, apart from the lack of coffee!, was the attitude of the waiters - apart from the lady owner, they were a little bit grumpy and really seemed not to want us there - we got the impression that actually they could not wait for us to leave - maybe the coffee thing was just a ploy! Its such a shame as the food was really good, but because of the waiters, next time I am in Otsuni, I will not go back!

A group of us ate lunch and sat outside where every thing slopes and the steps to get from one level to another are steep but all of that just added to the atmosphere where we enjoyed multiple courses and especially loved the asparagus tart.

This restaurant was recomended by our hotel. There are two types of Restaurants in Italy, Local where local people go and Tourist Restaurants, that tourists don't know any better. This was somewhere in the middle. The Name is the Tavern of Jealousy in English if you didn't know. The setting is on one of the little side streets of Ostuni, on Three levels. If your not good with steps don't go they are very steep. It's a very romantic restaurant with tables in little nooks and cranies under trees and arches. Now it wasn't just because we were English, because the Waiters were as equaly stand offish and not really interested with all the other Nationalities including Italian. When they were explaining the contents of the Anti pasta we ordered, I think they were expecting a plane to land or a unique bird to fly past, because that where they were looking.

However they were a fantastic selection of dishes all Hot apart from the Recotta Cheese and I think there was eight all together including, Local Sausages, Tempura Corgette Flowers, Chicory with cheese all very nice. We then followed Wild Boar Ragu with Pappadele pasta which was very tasty but a little too tepid for me I then had Diced Veal which had the flavours of Stiffado from Nearby Greece. This was on a thin bed of Fava bean purea. which again was tepid. We were serenaded by Mario on his quitar. we didnt stop for desser't we had a walk into town and had a Ice cream in the square. If you do go here try not to sit at the small table on you right down the second flight of steps as this is by the Gas meter and you keep getting the smell of gas during your dinner. When you pay by Credit Card you have to go the owners little office at the top of the restaurant and you get a chance to look at the inside restaurant which has some very old and unique paper 3D pictures.
